Can you please explain to me why that's funny? For real. I wanna know.
+Shawn Daniels It's just a reference to a character in Far Cry 3 named Vaas who was known for the line, "Did I ever tell you the definition of insanity?" It's 'funny' because lvl111 has a resemblance to Vaas.
Instead of being funny it could be a kind of "oh would you look at that" moment where people notice something similar to another thing and find it more interesting than funny.
amartinez97 he also kind of resembles Joakim Brodén, the vocalist of the band Sabaton.

+cade delgado Ever since that exploit got patched, gold rings is the way to go. You gotta clear out Kolskeggr Mine and then do the Forsworn Conspiracy and use the silver you get form Cidnha Mine to also make silver rings.

That first chestplate was more of an iron gutplate.

Excellent video, I started as a sheet-metal worker and graduated to repairing railroad cars, often in difficult conditions. Fabricating parts in the field with modern tools is tough enough. You, "For Real Blacksmiths" are another breed. Kudos.
The "Smithing" in games is always amusing. I'd be happy to be able to make a railroad spike knife, seeing the video and doing it are worlds apart.

Not necessarily; it is 1 unit of weight. But the units of weight are not known.
Most rpgs use old weights, such as the stone, which would be about 15

True. In the case of video games, I don't think it's necessarily the fantasy world's doing. It just has to be programmed with numbers, and smaller numbers tend to be easier to work with; so it would be easier to say 1 unit of weight = whatever mass the lightest item in the game would be.
This is kinda why the physics in games, even those that use real equations, don't look quite as real; the masses and forces they use tend to be miniscule by comparison. Like a 2 ton truck in a game might only weigh 500 "pounds."

I've never liked deadric armor either.
I wish there wasn't a divide in the smithing tree between light and heavy. I mean, you can craft an ebony dagger but no ebony mail? Just ebony plate armor? I'd be more into heavy armor if the perk tree didn't suck compared to light armor...
Dragon-scale armor is cool but I always hated the helm, so I could never get the matching set bonus. For that matter I always disliked the Elven helm and the glass set is way too flamboyant for me.
I'd always get the thieves guild or dark brotherhood quests done ASAP so I can rock the shrouded or Nightingale armor the whole game...
Or more recently I just modded the game and added the Bosmer armor pack. Badass looking, and there are several tiers to level with you as you play. Git it!
Fire Dash The Pyro Fox Well, the Deathbrand set has the bonus of multiplying it's own rating as you wear more and more of it. So the full set is ridiculously OP.
I never liked the look of Stahlrim either, and I hate the horned helm. There's mods to change Stahlrim appearance, though, so I can always do that.

I'd actually be in favor of having a more realistic crafting system in the next TES. All you need is some ingots and you can craft the most badass armor. That's cool, but apart from Daedra Hearts most of the materials are pretty easy to find. And even Daedra Hearts are easy to come by when the Mehrunes Dagon quest is completed, since the shrine will open and the Daedra inside will spawn again and again and drop a heart every time. Even dragon scales and bones are pretty easy to come by and my chest is overflowing with them.
World of Warcraft had you crafting some pretty crazy weapons which required materials that only very dedicated players got. Remember Sulfuras, the legendary two-handed mace only those who had crunched through the Molten Core in vanilla WoW? If you managed to craft that mace, then you were the guaranteed center of attention.

I know this is an older post but it's a good one, and I'd just like to say that *I really like that side draft forge!* That is so much better than having a hood over the top that often gets in the way of your head and/or line of sight. Also, because the hot air is being sucked away to the side, you can get close and work the flame without melting yourself; very nice!

Bro, those are really nice pieces you made, the sword and the finished breastplate. Even the dagger and "gut plate" are impressive. At one point in time those would have been considered effective armor with some sturdier straps. And the dagger with some polishing could also be pretty nice for an LARPer or cosplay. Great job, great video, and that's a badass shop too. keep up the great work, EH BUDDAY! Lol

Quenching case hardens the steel. Quenching is however an important part of the heat treating process.
Yeah it aligns all the molecules with the rapid cooling.
+lvl111 at what point in the forging process if you wanted could you add etchings to the blade?
The Cod Skrub Etching, as in acid etching is typically done last. Etching like engraving, carving or chiseling is usually done after annealing or "normalizing" the piece before heat treating.
