Favourite ride ever when I wasn’t even old enough to go on I remember my sister clinging onto me as I slid off the bike onto the trembling boards looking up at the lights thinking this is the most terrifying experience ever. Loved it
Haha I remember the feeling well! Riding the inside bike thinking I'M GONNA DIE!! until the fella grabbed hold of me and held me on until the ride ended. I was only 10,that was 35 years ago and it was 10p a ride, if my parents knew I'd gone to the fair id of got the hiding of my life! But it'd of been worth it, what fond memories I have of being at the fair all those years ago..
Brilliant machine I actually worked on this in the 70s done seven. Seasons with them, finished . travelling about 12 years ago, with Pat Collins, Anthony Harris. I now work casual with them when they come to Chester.
I was on these in wester hailes Edinburgh early eighties. No guard rail back then! There was neds getting thrown off nearly every spin back then! Few pusses smashed in, in the day.. 😂
i remember being on this ride in the 70s, my dad was on with me, i must've been about 7 or 8, i was lifting off the seat with the speed, i was crapping myself
We used to ride this backwards. You sit on one of the outer bikes and with your back to the handle bars and then put your right leg against the metal fence thing.
@jordanjedwardedwards..dont understand your comment i meant what happened to the bikes did they get sold or do they still have the bikes,i no all about waltzers a sppedways m8 i spent 13 years travelling with ts dowse and albert evans iam no stranger to fairs i worked on sppedways and waltzers since i was 16 most of them from the yorkshire section
Me and my mate mick back in the day 70s 80s used to stand up in front of the rails and ride it, no health and safety back then, I also used to work on the ride I remember wearing my best clothes and looking sharp oh they were the days, saw the waltzer other week and the operators were wearing high vis over there clothes, what has gone wrong
looks good why are arks fading away?? Not alot of them around anymore😐 does anybody remember the soul shifer speedway from Scotland?? Robertson i think???
I think that it might be because of their declining popularity due to it's Waltzer twin having more excitement to them and it might also be because of Health & Safety concerns that the design of the mounts might cause people to fall off if they're not careful particularly if you chose to sit backwards, as well as concerns about riders standing against the platform rails too.
Best ride at the fair, so wish they would still have it at fairs instead of that god awful waltzer😤need to get rid of that thing and replace it with this ride cos it is way better without a doubt!!
I never liked the 'Easy Rider' Speedways. Billy Crow bought one brand new, in 1978- and it lacked all the appeal and character of his incredible 1937 Orton & Spooner Royal Coronation machine, that was legendary.
