He appeared on cover on Modern Drummer magazinee and was Drummer of the Year in Drum magazine. He's not underrated at all. He's quite well known and respected.
I think this is the only primus song where les does aggressive vocals, it's cool though because they haven't really made a song quite Jellikit. it's like pulling straws at random by Meshuggah where it has a really emotional solo if that makes sense. What I'm saying is the fact that it is so unconventional of primus makes me appreciate the song more.
That's why I love the Antipop album. Some people thought it wasn't a "true" Primus album for whatever reason, but I think it was the heaviest thing they'd done since Too Many Puppies. (And sadly, all we get nowadays are artsy, laid-back Rush and Charlie & The Chocolate Factory covers)
@@Dhakadice yeah, i don't really feel like their new stuff reaches the level of older albums. there are of course some good songs but it's always way less than in older albums
@@salty_3k506 It seems that they've lost a lot of their metal influences the last two decades. They used to be so heavy that bands like KoRn took direct inspiration from Primus ("Blind" seems heavily inspired by "Too Many Puppies", especially in the intro). I don't think we'll hear any Nu-metal bands ripping off songs like "Conspiranoia" or anything from Rainbow Goblins though.
@@Dhakadice oh i never noticed how blind had a similar intro to too many puppies but you're totally right. and yeah, primus isn't as heavy, nor as funky, it's more psychedelic with not as much substance and fun behind it i feel like. and some songs are good, especially pure imagination, i really like that, but recent primus is neither really heavy nor funky, sadly.
I remember watching Primus rock out at the Offshore festival at Torquay in Victoria Australia back in Easter of 1998 in the pissin down rain & the mud. Also saw L7 & Everclear among many others that same weekend. Awesome times & great memories of those days.
Yeah on yhe airheads soundtrack though they called it " Bastardizing Jelikit" it is the song but its pretty different ftom this version but I like it just as much @alomtz4359
I could be wrong. So do not take what I'm going to say as fact. I think, again, not sure. But I believe the gensing drummer is a bit of a play on words. From back in the old days when ginsu knives were a thing. Kinda a fuck you to the pop culture while saying my man is the best and can do anything. Again, I might be completely wrong. That is just my interpretation.
Had a couple of Skype sessions with Herb back in 2012. Asked him about the nickname & he just said that they all had everyone had names back then & it was Ler that first used it. But I read an interview with Les or Ler somewhere that mentioned how Tim used to carry around a bumbag with bits & pieces.. & one day at rehearsal Les felt sick, so Tim pulls some ginseng out from his little bag & offers it to Les. Les said it looked & tasted like rabbit turds.. but he did feel a bit better.
The snare-drum just makes this song.
it makes the whole album!
I want that tone so badly

I think he’s really into herbal tonics and used to carry around ginseng
Or it could be a pun to his literal name, herb. Herb as in the ginseng herb
All these replies are correct
