Thank you for this. My first roll looked awful and I was frustrated cuz everyone else's videos looked perfect
This film is UNIQUE. Not everyone likes it but I can see people loving this film for what it is and experimenting to get some cool results!
I really love Phoenix, its applications are limited but I can’t wait to try it out in the snow.
Picked up 4 rolls myself can’t wait to try it :) lovely shots 🎉
Got couple of rolls to try out..can't wait
Just got my roll back and wow. PUNCHY! I am going to def shoot it 1 stop over next time and scan at home. Lab scans are so dark. Understandable being an experimental film and excited for the future of the stock.
Great video! wish i watched this before I shot my first roll of this film stock. I was not happy with the results but now I know how to go about shooting it the next time around.
Great video! I absolutely thought I botched my roll when I get the scans back. It was the worst I'd shot in years. Then, as I learned more about the stock, I'm pretty sure I crushed it on my first roll. 🙂
I liked the first photos of the brick building. Love the saturation of Orange. The reason I love Ektar and Fuji xtra . I guess this is like a lomography film as far as them saying to use it at 100 200 400 speeds. And I would use this for portraits. I use all film for everything and not what it says to use it for. I am an experimentalist and the reason I shooot film only. I like the unpredictability of results. It's like traditional painting. When the paint dries it could be a different shade of from what you started with.
So you shot three different ISOs on the same roll of film? I'm not sure that's what they mean by shooting at three ISOs. Normally, you shoot one ISO per roll. I've never heard of a film that was flexible when it comes to changing ISO on one roll. I mean...How is the lab going to know how to process it? Don't you have to let them know which ISO you used and then they process accordingly? If this in fact does have the capability to handle three ISOs on one roll of film at a time, then that's really cool! I can't tell you how many times I've wanted a film that was flexible like that.
He’s specifically under and over exposing the film by a stop each way, assuming 200 as box speed and developing for that. It’s a way to test the exposure latitude of the film - fairly standard
Dang! What an awesome opportunity to get to checkout more of the fortress/base.
I bought two tolls - primarily to show my support of Harman. But I appreciate these recommendations.
Did you do the scanning yourself or did the lab do it for you?
I'm thinking about NLP's "standard lab" profile after conversion which is meant to replicate the curve that labs give you and I often find it too contrasty. Maybe the film itself has a lot of contrast built in, plus more contrast from the lab and it becomes almost unusable.
I used to work at a film lab and the techs there said it actually looks best when scanned with an epson scanner. Their fuji scanner made the film look HORRIBLE. But they looked incredible on someone’s personal epson 600 scanner
the king!!!
I’d definitely underexposed it and push it both one stop and cross process in E-6 to see the result,
Thanks a lot for the content! I just bought this film and I'll definitely use your tips to try to get the best results out of it 😁
If I could just ask for one thing, it would be great if you wrote down the apperture and shutter speed of the photos when you show the results. Sorry, but as a non-native English speaker, it's a bit hard for me to get that just from you saying it. It's easier if it's written down. Other than that, perfect content, thanks a lot for your effort in doing that and kindness in sharing it 😊
You made this film stock look good where as other reviewers have not
Fort Point is a Civil War era fortication and is simular in design to Fort Sumter in South Carolina.
Love the video. Love the images. But cmon, a Dodgers hat at Fort Point? Wild lol You’re cursed now 😂
it's Xmas time, so I will be very nice: this film is a pure....beauty, best film, it will replace Portra.... 😅
i’m just not impressed with the film. there’s such a strong contrast and it often looks like the quality of a polaroid. every review i’ve seen of this film, the results have been completely underwhelming - and not due to the photographers themselves.
I totally agree, but they have to pay the bills, so you know, youtube, crap and stuffs (what did you expect from a channel sponsored by squareeeeeespaaaace ?)
@@chriscard6544jealousy is ugly
Why do you bother shooting film then. You seem like you prefer digital.
I think you should shoot digital if you are looking for a perfect results. These are first batches of the film and they created this from the gound up. It will be better in the future for sure.
we like some truth maybe.
PLEASE try cross processing it in E-6!
I want to try shoot one and there is a store that sells them, however idk how much it priced on US but here its almost as expensive as Portra so I got conflicted on buying one 😕
Looks like Ektar with blown out highlights. Don't love this film but good that there are more options.
There are quite a few Phoenix review videos on RUclips and everyone seems to be putting it into an F3 to test.
I just ordered a roll, and guess what, I plan to use my F3 as well. Your review was super helpful, so thanks for sharing. Luckily winter in Scotland doesn't give much contrast so that may be in my favour 😊
I really think the only decent results I have seen from this stock which still doesn't look amazing as it is still quite new was from Kyle McDougal. I would look at his videos as he goes in depth on pushing and pulling the film and how to maybe get the best results of this film stock.
And I forgot to mention this in my initial comment, but I think it is important that photographers like you show bracketing for this film and the experimentation that is important with film photography.
Wait, you changed the iso on the same roll?
Over and under exposed from box speed, AKA Bracketing!
@@Caballeroshot so how's the development for that? 🤔
@@crwn_munkz Develop at box speed.
@@Caballeroshot makes sense
That battery failure is exactly why I stuck with the Nikon F2.
I think one has to pick the right shot for this film.
I thought the f3 has a 1/80 mechanical shutter speed without batteries
Definitely 1/60
Except for the halation, Phoenix reminds me of Adox ColorMission 200.
I don't think lab scans are the way to go with Phonenix.
here is why it is absurd, a good test should be done with prints, not scans, just my opinion about film photography in general.
ALWAYS carry extra batteries when your shutter depends on it. Rookie mistake! :P
Everything I've seen from this film stock has convinced me to absolutely never buy it.
Every youtuber trying to play nice and say how psyched they are for new film, but good god it just looks terrible in every single review. They say "Harman SAYS it's experimental, they admit they could've used more time developing it."....Then they should have.
@@RyanEdwardWise to me it's a way to avoid non serious channels, who sold their soul
My shots all look like they were taken on Mars.
Yikes, reminds me of the early 2000’s where everything is highly contrasted
Time to make a dope vlog. Oops my camera battery is dead, oops my video camera is almost dead. Oops this light is super harsh. A+ for effort 😂
It’s clearly just Kodak Gold re-packaged.
In other words...it's crap!
