Where to search for morel mushrooms
    1. former recent wildfire locations
    2. flood plains of creeks
    3. flood plains of rivers
    4. storm surge areas of large lakes
    5. partially re-vegetated old roads
    6. non traffic areas of trails such as off to the sides.
    7. In summary, any area whose depth of vegetation has been reduced to bare or close to bare dirt is a potential area to search for morels. Of course those areas also have to have enough warmth and moisture to be suitable.

My first experience with morels was in my garden. I was pulling weeds and felt something odd against my ankle. I looked back to see 7 large golden morels growing loosely together. They were the size of my hand from wrist to finger tips. Ooooh they were good!! Thanks for sharing your tips Lonnie. "Hi!" to Connie!!

I would love to get into mushroom hunting, but I can't tell one type of mushroom from another. And the one thing that my Grandfather taught me was "there are old mushroom pickers, and there are bold mushroom pickers, but there are no old, bold mushroom pickers!". That gravy sure looked delicious, I'm sure that it was enjoyed. Thanks for the video, stay safe out there, and God bless you and Mrs. Connie!

Dang, you sure did better than we did! We found a grand total of 8 this year. It's been raining, so maybe we can find a few more yet. We call those "Blue Bells" they look like the same plant at least. Biscuits and gravy with morels.....Wow! I never thought of that! This was a really great video! Thank you for the pointers!

I found some morels about a week and a half ago. I kicked the first one over while I was collecting firewood. I got so excited I cut down about a half dozen, but left the rest for another time. I didn't eat them because I wasn't 100% sure. I took them home and confirmed they were the real deal and dried them up with a little butter. My first time eating them... and they were good. It's been raining here, so I'm not sure I'll be able to get back out there and grab the rest.
    Thanks for the video

Always love your videos, thank you. Unfortunately i think it's too late here in lower Michigan. I did manage to find at least a dozen earlier this year. Not the pounds of them i have found in the past. Hopefully with the help of this video I will have better luck next year!
I should mention that one year I found a dead deer in the forest, in a circle around the deer, not directly on or next to the deer, but in a roughly 20 foot radius, I found hundreds of morels, hundreds, i filled multiple bags full of them. I don't know if it's a coincidence or not.

I actually discovered some on my property here in Germany. They usually grow at the end of March and yes, - only for about two weeks. They're always in the same spot under a bush. Easy to dry in about three days, fine with deer, cranberrys and potato dumplings.

Hi Lonnie, I love Morels! We use to find them in Thorn Apple groves up in northern New York State (back in the day). Young cattle would go to the groves during the heat of the day; the ground was always rich and well fertilized and would stay moist for a long time. If you know Thorn Apples, you know it is no easy task to get in then get out without drawing blood from the 3" thorns.. But it was worth it!! Thanks for taking me back to yester-year.

Thanks for the video Lonnie! I never knew that you could find morels around alders. One thing about alders is that they grow in areas where the water table is higher or where you have spring run off flooding or both! So it makes sense to me now. Morels love sandy loamy moist soil. I believe it is the change in the pH of the soil that helps them fruit, which is why they seem more likely in burn areas. I wonder if the flood areas you hunt the in act the same way. I think you can sprinkle some wood stove ash where you've found some, and coax a few more to pop up! Haha. Great video. Definitely envious of your time in the woods. Be well.
