A great review. It is incredible that a work can inspire us to create our own work, our lyrics, painting, music. This album is another very powerful Roger's work, indeed because it is so personal. I prefer these lyrics more than the ones on Amused To Death, although I like a a lot ATD.
Amused to Death is a masterpiece, a cohesive and moving conceptual work. Hate to say it but Is This the Life suffers in comparison. ATD had a virtuoso instrumentalist with Jeff Beck more than filling the shoes of Gilmour.
my one problem with amused is what god wants part 1. he just sounds the most decrepit, in the most loving way i can put it, in that song on the album. really puts off when i tried to show people this album.
Amused to death is a masterpiece from start to finish with amazing sound quality and production...up there with mfsl...Great lyrics ...deep and thought provoking. Amazing guitar work by Jeff beck....simply underated and a future classic when people get it! I put it right up there as a top album...sounds amazing on a decent stereo 😎
Very different record than ATD and it really grew on me with repeated listening. I have to laugh at the people who complain that old Roger should just up and leave the politics out of it all. There were those who actually walked out of some of the US + Them shows. You have to wonder just where the fuck these dolts have been the past 50 years! Roger is more relevant than ever and This is NOT A DRILL... 💣 🚀 💥
The problem with the record is you have to buy into more than the politics of the record; you have to believe the individual who is singing them is genuine in what he says, and given his Anti-Semitic views that he espouses a lot of this is hard to take. Seems insincere. Does he want world peace for all? Or are the Jews not included? I think we all know the answer. And Polly and David were so great to call him out on it earlier this year.
@@TheDarrenLock Good for you! I'll always love Pink Floyd, and I'll always give him credit for that stuff. He was a great writer at one point. Sad to see who he is now. Oh well.
The combination of soundeffects and speaking people audios is fantastic. His aging speaking voice is still good.
What about Amused to death? Do you agree with me that this is a classic?

13:45 "kamen", like michael kamen?
I guess so... He worked with Waters and Gilmour.
@@TheDarrenLock i just thought he passed!
He died nearly twenty years ago...
@@TheDarrenLock so you can imagine how surprised i was when you said he was on the record!
Did I say that? 🤔 If so, brain fart, and I saw him with David Gilmour shortly before he died. Oh well...
Hi Darren. I like this album a lot. 'is this the life we really want' ? ffs c'mon is that not a question everyone needs to reflect on?
Arguably Rog's best ever album indeed. The album gives a new angle on politics given the current situation in the US (and elsewhere)

Well I sold my copy (and all my Roger Waters albums) when he revealed himself for what he is…

Well I’ve been very vocal at calling him out to the point where he blocked me on X (Twitter)…😬😬😬
@@TheDarrenLock I'm not on X (Twitter) but you should be proud!
