United Abominations is the eleventh studio album by American thrash metal band Megadeth. Released on May 8, 2007, United Abominations is the first Megadeth release distributed through Roadrunner Records and, with the exception of the band's frontman Dave Mustaine, was recorded with an all-new line-up. While touring to promote the album, guitarist Glen Drover left the band for personal reasons and was replaced by Chris Broderick, leaving this as the only Megadeth studio album to which he contributed.
The album was recorded in 2006 at several places: SARM Hook End Studios, London, England; the Steakhouse, Studio City, California; Big Fish Encinitas, California and Backstage Productions. Additional overdubs were recorded at S.I.R. rehearsal studio, Hollywood, California and Mustaine Music, Fallbrook, California. Most of the record was tracked in England because Mustaine admired the fact that his favorite band, Led Zeppelin, previously recorded there many times. Mustaine produced the album, with additional production handled by Jeff Balding and Andy Sneap.
All artwork for the album was selected from a contest held by DeviantArt. The contestants were asked to design a new version of Vic Rattlehead, the band mascot which appears on nearly every Megadeth album cover. Mustaine chose from the top 11 finalists to be included in the CD booklet. The cover was unveiled in August 2006, of which the image depicts the United Nations headquarters in flames and being destroyed by flying oil barrels. Vic Rattlehead (the Megadeth mascot) and the 'Angel of Deth' are pictured in the foreground. Although the cover of the CD was not the winner of the contest, Mustaine chose it as his favorite picture, and wanted it for the cover. No photographs of the band were taken for the CD booklet, leaving the entire design as fan-made artwork.
The reception of United Abominations was very positive by critics and debuted at number 8 on the Billboard 200, the highest chart position for the band since 1994's Youthanasia until it was succeeded by 2013's Super Collider. Greg Prato of AllMusic stated Megadeth "sound reborn" on United Abominations. The lyrics of the album deal with politics and the state the world is in, with Ed Thompson of IGN stating the album is the band's most politically charged. The album was named the number one metal album of 2007 by Guitar World. In the 2007 Burrn! magazine Reader's Poll, it was voted Best Album Cover, and "Washington Is Next" was voted Best Tune.

No lol. This sounds a lot like a Dystopia voice. It’s abysmal at best. After the turn of the century Megadeth just sucks big balls. Not one good song on all these 21st century albums. You’ll never compare to the 80s and 90s Megadeth, minus Risk. I lied because the world needs a hero is a good album. Last good album by them.
@@christopherpooler5398 Heard from somewhere that This World Needs A Hero was purposefully vocally-driven. Nevertheless, I agree. Youthanasia is Mustaine's vocal peak imo, my favorite production style too.

@@christopherpooler5398 What the hell? The World Needs A Hero is one of the worst albums of Megadeth... The System Has Failed, Dystopia, United Abominations and Endgame, all got great songs.
I've always preferred this version over the one in Th1rt3en. This more stripped-down version helps increase the intensity of emotion, imo. Always thought it was an underrated song. Absolutely beautiful melodies...
I agree the solo on 13 was unnecessary. I like the drum fills on 13 better though entering into the chorus.
This version is better because the cut off the intro riff on the 13 version.

I'm amazed at the fact that a lot of people say this is the first time they hear this version, when it's actually the original version.
It was a bonus track in Japan or something so that's got to be why.
@@burgerbob7324 it's even worse, Japanese pressing are really popular, this one is not in the Japanese version, this came in a really really reaaaally hard to find CD, it was the first Mexican pressing.

What sucks is that this version is not available in any physical media format.

I think this sounds so much bette than the latter version. I think this slow paced one is better suited than the full metal one.
The biggest difference between this and Th1rt3en, is this song is mp3 and not cda/uncompressed. There's some musical changes and production, but if this were full format it would sound even better

I listened to both of them at once, the vocals are literally the same take. This one is more raw, while the other one has a lot of additional stuff to complete it. Take your pick, it's like Five Magics demo vs the remaster- do you want the raw sound like the original or the final one? The remaster 2004 and demo share the same vocal take.
@@RacermanXtreme Actually, Five Magics remastered (and the rest of the new vocals on RIP) were from demos because they lost the vocal track and had to work with what they could, which i find to be funny because there are stems for the original vocal track now. Dave's vocals are definitely the same take here as Thirteen, because he probably couldn't sing it again that good.

This version is better than the version on 13. Metallica did the same thing with Broken Beat and Scarred. The chorus for the demo version is better.

There's something in Shawn Drover's drumming that annoys me. He sounds technically amazing but i don't like it at all in any songs from that era of Megadeth

Prefer this version....the other is too over the top even for Megadeth.
I guess the 13th´s version is, in my opinion, way more intense as regards guitar solos. It´s almost stressing!
