I stayed someplace last month where 1.) paid $150 cleaning fee for a 2 night stay, 2.) house rules said to leave the house the way we found it INCLUDING run the dishwasher and put the dishes away - with a 10am check out time!, and 3.) had the housekeeper asking us to Venmo her a tip. This nonsense needs to stop.

These are all the reasons why I have never done arbnb and why I don’t understand doing it period. When i vacation I don’t want to clean someone else’s dirty house
I’m not familiar with them and (based on my experience in college and living in squalor,) I know there have to be issues with requiring people to clean because, we know there’s an entire segment of society that does not know how. I’m seriously trying to figure this out.
They must be making a king’s ransom on cleaning fees because my goodness the filth.
Omg, I’m so over the cheap furniture. Like the chairs, beds, couches are not made for long term sits or comfort, tall, or plus size people. Also host getting over listing things like washing machines but it’s actual just a bins that agitated the wash. I’m in Mexico hand wringing out laundry. However my host is nice.
Lol I definitely have some grievances. I get so tired of paying cleaning fees for places that are not only non-refundable, but also not even clean when I get there. I always leave them cleaner than the original presentation to me. One trip, the host kept popping over, even sending her friends to come over late at night to check us out. We had a 1 week reservation, but only 1 roll of toilet paper, no soap, a few tablespoons of dishwashing liquid, a broken washing machine, no tv, no wifi, AC blowing thick dust, etc We had zero privacy (or tv) until our last 2 nights there. Another place did not match the pictures, and required us to leave all shoes outside. There was also an upstairs that we were forbidden to go to. Of course, we had to check it out anyway. Someone or something could have been living up there 🤷🏽😅
You should have demanded a refund! We had that happen to us where the host sent her husband to drop off sheets !even though we told her that there was no need to enter the property-my partner lost his patients and filled for a refund on the basis of privacy evasion and w got our refund back -absolutely no reason why anyone including the host should be “popping over “ for no reason at all…yep no more excuses-I don’t do Airbnb anymore I’d rather stay at hotels
RUclips is a powerful thing. I had never even heard of housesitting for regular people before I found Stephanie's channel. As in, I've heard of rich people having caretakers for their vacation home somewhere or I had also heard of friends or family coming by someone's house to babysit their plants or pets because they had to go outta town for an emergency or something like that.
Fast forward to me moving to Costa Rica (props to Stephanie's channel for being part of the encouragement portion of the move) and now I, a regular person, am having Stephanie housesit our dog and my pepper plant while I go back to the States for a few days in May to drop off my daughter and pick up my mom! I am confident that Stephanie will enjoy herself because we have a pool and decent toilet paper. 😄
I last did an Airbnb stay on lockdown week in March 2020 in Maryland. It was a repeat stay with a couple who lived there and had a finished basement. They were lovely and the stay was comfy. It seems they were very aligned with the "elevated couch surfing" model. They were reasonable about everything and there were no arbitrary rules. It sounds like the overall vibe has changed a lot. All of this sounds awful. That nickel-and-diming would be a dealbreaker for me. A lot of this sounds similar to people getting on the bandwagon to have rental properties without the wherewithal to manage the reality of having tenants.

Helping us to understand that there are options in life if we open our eyes and move around. I am a Navy veteran and recently started watching your channel because I heard you say you are also a veteran. I plan to expat but I'm still looking around.

I took an AMAWaterways River Cruise in Bordeaux, France. The service was impeccable. They remembered my wine preferences even though it changed from what I wanted at noon to what I wanted a dinner. I told my room steward I liked listening to old school jazz and she kept the radio station on Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaugh and the like. I was also given suggestions for little cozy jazz clubs in the town. The cruise captain had lunch with me and a other few singles. Lastly, I was super impressed by the co-owner of the cruise line. She just wanted to see how I was liking the trip and what they could do to make it better...I absolutely love it! She even treated me to a special French drink and this was before I became a travel advisor.
Love been eyeing AMAWaterways... Maybe in the future! I noticed they offered a Josephine Baker museum tour!

Airbnb has been bad for the past two years, there are no longer any standards they no longer screen the host. I chose to stop using AIrbnb all together it a money grab for many host and many host have no clue about hospitality.
I agree it's gone way downhill and I used to be a avid user working in travel healthcare but I have had too many bad experiences so I stopped and prefer to stay in hotels
Whew, Chile. I stayed in an "Airbnb" for a year and the "host" was a slumlord all about the money. Had no access to a washing machine or refrigerator for almost 2 months. And would enter the house sometimes without notice. I was a student on a limited budget who needed a place to stay. No Internet access and the A/C broke down during my last week. It's a shame because it was a beautiful house. Neva again, there's no place like your own. 😅 Tfs
I was just telling a friend that I now know the differnce between folks who are doing airbnb because they like people/service and in the hospitality business....and those who only want the money! Once you get there it's obvious.

Thought for years that I could improve upon the hospitality I received during my few travel experiences by doing Arbnb.
Changing my mind since family and friends visits. Keeping fridge stocked and prewrapped luxury tissues and constant cleaning. Christmas trees in everyroom. At least my almost 5 yr old granddaughter says " Abuelita's house is magical."
Just happened to me. I thought I had the day to clean my room/air bnb, final touches as I had already moved most items out. I thought I had time to say goodbye etc. NO!!! Got an email from these very nice people that I had to be out by 11 ....just like a hotel! It was 1030am!!! Oh...and I thought I had paid for the day!
All the "niceness" vanished. They wanted me out! So, I did what I needed to do in the time I had. She said she had to clean as someelse was coming. I even offered to pay for the extra hour or two. Nope....she and husband wanted me out! So, ....I was hustled out!
In Provence, my choice is to stay in Avignon. Easy to get around. Nice community of Black folks.

I'm going to give VRBO a try on my next vacation. I'm over Air B & B. When they literally leave you the exact number of dishwasher pods for the number of nights you're staying or just one extra roll of TP, it's not worth it. I will start writing those kinds of stuff in my reviews going forward. Thanks for this video.

Whew it’s probably good I was in coaching with Roshida this morning bc THIS TOPIC! I HAVE to stay on top of my housesits 😖bc these airbnbs! 🤬As a previous hotel manager I KNOW half the things I’ve experienced recently would’ve NEVER been okay had the tables been turned. Multiple bags of trash left on the patio? Decor nor upkeep is similar to photos? Urine on the toilet- Then to add insult you charge a cleaning fee with checkout chores? Come again 😒 mind you I do some of these things anyway out of habit BUT it definitely was off putting. Might have to go back to staying at hotels in between sits
I went to Cuba in February, where Americans can’t stay in hotels, you have to stay in a casa particular, thru airnbnb. When I tell you the horror! The sofa was old and greasy. The septic was backed up and had to be emptied almost daily. I chatted with the Airbnb host in English online but when I arrived, the hostess gave me fifteen minutes of “instructions” completely in Spanish. She was at my door daily. One day, after major shopping, I had the taxi driver help carry bags to my room. She flies down the stairs and in COMPLETE ENGLISH told me that I could not have any guests without paying an additional guest fee. She even asked for 5 star rating after I left. I just laughed.

OMG!! I DONOT HAVE A DESIRE TO VISIT CUBA AFTER HEARING OF MANY DISATER STORIES. KEEPING MY AMERICAN$$ AWAY FROM THERE.
Airbnb used to be affordable; not they are commiserate with hotel costs. May as well get a hotel room, at least they don’t expect you to clean!
Kind of like how fast food used to be a cheap option when you had no other food option/ nothing nearby or on the road and not much money to spend.
Not so anymore. They’ve raised the prices so much/ shrunk the serving sizes and walked right over that budget threshold so, if you’re going to spend what fast food is charging you now, you might as well tiptoe on up to that next level and get a better lunch for the same $12 -$15. 😦I hope they realize what they’re doing and know it’s not worth it.
Personally, I sanitize my hotel room and airbnb room before I settle in…I also refuse housekeeping services during my stay. Because I need totally privacy. Likewise, I always tidy up before I leave….I would be totally embarrassed to leave a mess behind. That being said, I don’t think there should be mandatory fee for cleaning.
Wow! I’m in San Jose Costa Rica right now mad that I was lied to‼️😮😢But the condo I’m staying in is very nice, as long as you don’t mind the racism of the area

The toilet paper thing may be as simple as people not wanting to mess up septic systems. Charmin gums up septic and so do all the soft tissue rolls.
Yes My Family and I had A terrible experience with A Airbnb in MYRTLE Beach . No sheets on the beds . Bed Bugs . And dirty condoms in the yard. Just Terrible . And a Airbnb in Charlotte N.C. That was awful too. Sad
Bed Bugs!? I hope you reported them and got a refund!? I once got a refund because a host had hair everywhere. All that told me is they didn’t clean!
Catching the replay...hi all. I recently stayed in an Air BnB where the hosts also lived and were there too. The wife was so maternal it was sweet. I stayed with them 3 nights and each morning, the husband left me a bowl of cut fruit on the counter. Also, I have been saying the same about check-in and check-out because...it just makes sense!

I have always said I’m a full service chic! Never did airbnb but never say never. Any accommodations have to b better than home or as comfy. Backed up toilets oh gosh no!😮
I love my "childhood dream" of Paris. However, Paris doesn't seem to like Americans, esp Blacks. I've been to Paris three times. Charles deGaulle, SMH.

Oh no it’s still my childhood dream (at 43) and I haven’t made it yet! After taking French classes 3rd grade-college I’ve always been fascinated with France. I have to plan with all my sistas notes in mind.
@delle3955 I never let anyone's opinion put a damper on my dream and neither should you my dear. I WAS FInally THERE IN 2017. MY First missed travel opportunity was with my French teacher Madame Allison, (1973), because Daddy wouldn't let me go. At his 85th birthday, I (fully grown) let him know I was going and he reluctantly said well go ahead baby if it's the Lord's will. It was my will and God blessed me with the finances to go right??...t... no matter how rusty my speaking skills were I remained determined and I have no regrets.

Paris doesn’t like arrogant Americans that come there, insist others to speak English and don’t attempt to a lick of French. I’ve travelled all over France, including Paris multiple times and never had any issues there. 🤷🏾♀️

I’ve never had any issues in France. It’s not the US. It’s important to be gracious, respectful and have some understanding of French culture even if you don’t speak French. It’s their country with different expectations.
Glad someone mentioned fake flowers!! They are a staple of Louisiana decor. I stayed in an apartment with a dog. The place has fake flowers everywhere!! I felt oddly in a morgue. Please put them away people. One $5 spray with a few daisies will last two weeks. I didn't even leave a review.

There are protests going on in the Canary Islands for this reason, as we speak. Tourism and the AirBnB model have made life unlivable for them. Everything’s sky high now. They can’t afford their own housing. People from other countries buying up the houses and turning them into their vacation homes and ABB properties They’ve had it with the tourism industry and with what ABB has done to them. 😞
Omg! I had the worst experience in two Airbnb’s in PDC a couple weeks ago. The hosts were bat 💩crazy😅

You're nailing one of ly biggest pet peeves. I thought I was a picky princess but the few times I have rented with AirBNB were indeed sub par. Especially regarding cleanliness. Every single time I rented, I had to clean after the so called cleaning service did. 🤢. I prefer hotels, at least I get what I paid for and get to not work during my vacation 😮💨

Yeah, horrible hosts and horrible customer service made it so i never look at airbnb. The good thing in europe, the hotels are less expensive and well equipped than airbnbs. A single room can be 55 euro - 65 euro a night, about 65 euro to 100 euro a night for Paris. And an airbnb will be 20-40 euros more, to share a house. No thank you.

Gold Elite status for Hilton and BonVoy offers late check out. I use it often, normally 2pm at Marriott and 1pm at Hilton. I've received 20% of meals and free meals with Gold at Hilton, but not with Marriott.

I am checking out this video and so far I will comment on the fake flowers. That's understandable to a degree. You don't want them to wilt to soon, the stale water to smell, the may not take time to water or change the water, depending on the type of flower it will start to lose peddles and get messy. Now trees or succulents or easy care green plants are a different thing.

I've used Vrbo and only needed to clear all food items out and dump the trash. I feel these are reasonable requests . it may be a day or two until some cleans and you don't want smelly trash sitting
Most times you can leave your bags with the bell hop station before your room is ready.

I didn't make it into the challenge. I have a YT channel and a dream. I used to be prolific but not successful. After some issues, I am more camera wary but I know what I want and a YT business could get me there. I will definitely be in the June challenge.

I just stayed at an Airing in San Jose which was beautiful. I only stay at Super Host or guest approved places. I also look at the ratings and reviews. Also, if you have a bad experience, leave a bad review! Not leaving a review isn't helpful to the next guest.

Airbnb can be a catch-22. The posting images are sometimes misleading. Understanding that perfect information is not possible; disappointment is and 30 days worth is unbearable. A five star studio in Hawaii without air-conditioning taught me a great lesson. It cost me 3 times more for a last minute plan.
I think hotels are wrong as well with that rule 3checkin12checkout.

I actually dont want any interaction with the host, i have only stayed at air bnb twice and i didnt like the experience; my main issue is why are you charging me a cleaning fee if your still requiring me to clean?!
Yep, that’s one of my gripes. The last place I stayed AFTER we booked the stay, we received three emails about cleaning. What’s funny is we found hair and ants in the house. We saw the cleaning staff leave before checking in but I’m convinced they just wash sheets. I gave them a terrible review. I’m done with Airbnb. I’ve given them multiple chances.

I have not! What I learned is that most Airbnb guest aren’t honest about their ratings. Also, depending on where you’re staying many guest are only in the house to sleep. They may not notice any issues, especially if they’re drunk half the time.
WOW. I thought the reviews would help pick those things out. Treat people like a queen in your rentals so that good karma comes back to you!!

Don’t do it Ms Stephanie!!Vrbo is not “doing better” than airbnb. I have found the places I’ve seen and a few I’ve stayed at are definitely subpar.

I missed the live. But I can't stand Airbnbs that overly rely on Fabreeze in the sheets, on the bed and on the furniture and plugin air fresheners. It's so toxic. I am wondering do you all actually clean this place or are you trying to trick me into thinking you're cleaning the place. Also, hate that I have to scrape my knuckles trying to get into some lock boxes.
I had to CLEAN the whole house after I arrived to my current Airbnb , that I share with other guests. I complained to the owner, who I had stayed with prior at a better house. She has been good since I’m staying longer term. But the Airbnbs are not keeping up their homes. Just buying old houses and put in random furniture in them, no ambiance, and charging cleaning fees for rooms that are already dirty. No one actually managing these places and doing proper cleaning. Many people running through these rooms and no regular exterminator schedule. I have seen reviews of people who had to deal with Roaches, bed bugs, rodents. Drugs and addicts. It feels like it’s all about the money, forget the guests.
