Deerleg has plans to attend a kittypet house party, which are almost thwarted by his mother asking him to babysit his little sister, Pigeonkit. Stuck with her, he decides to bring her with him, unknowingly leading her to her death…
Hi guys! This is a brand new amv I’ll be working on, to expand the Hereditary cats au further. I was blown away by the overwhelming support for Sleepwalk, and I couldn’t be happier.
I’ve had Laika brewing in the back of my mind since 2021, and it’s so nice to finally let it out of my brain and onto the page.
This amv will be such a challenge for me, as it features interiors and a vehicle, but I’m prepared for that.
I will be streaming my work on this project over on my tiktok if you’re interested! My user is classfelidae. I will also aim to post daily on my community tab once I start working on it.

INFO ABOUT ROOTCLAN
Rootclan are a group of cats that have made their homes in the roots of trees, deep underground. While they used to be a relatively normal clan, this quickly changed when their deputy introduced them to a kittypet named Queenie.
She brought with her a strange religion, and garnered devotion from cats of both clan & kittypet origin.

With the storyboard only having 40 bg characters atm, unfortunately i won’t be able to use every character.
Please do not be upset if I don’t use your character or pet!
It does not mean that I don’t like them, I pick characters based on simplicity, so if your character has an incredibly complex design, I may feel that they’re too cool to put in the background!

i know in the movie Peter just leaves Charlie in the car but Deerleg actually CARRYING Pigeonkit's body back to camp and laying it in her nest without anyone knowing is 10x more morbid and i love it
Yes, the way I envision it is Deerleg’s instinct telling him to take her home, he completely blocks out the fact that she’s dead. He’s in denial at that point, and by putting her to bed he hopes she’ll wake up again in the morning.
Peter’s reaction of shock in the original movie is incredibly memorable, so I wanted to preserve that
The fact the Pigionkit got ran over by A BIKE just hurts so much more then a regular car for some reason 😭😭😭
i love when pigeonkit(i think) tries to slink away from those two rude cats, its such a slinky motion.
My cat Bellatrix is very slinky, so that’s where I got the pose from
The level of meticulous care and love you put into this AU can absolutely be felt by the viewers. My favorite part has to be the scene where the cats are all in the house partying. How intimidating they are when we’re put into Pigeonkit’s POV. How she’s so out of her element and doesn’t know what to do once her brother leaves her to hang out with the others.
Yes! I wanted to convey how scary teenagers can be to younger children.
They’re loud, big and mean.
I felt a lot like that when I was little myself, I was always scared of the “big kids”, so I wanted to show how scary it would be for Pigeon to be left on her own like that with no one to hide behind. Poor girl
Gotta love how the song says “Come on Alex” and Peters actors name is Alex
One little nerd moment from me (whenever I see a pic of Alex wolff hanging out with cats I lose my mind)
Just some things I noticed..
(0:28) death berries in the trees in the background
(0:47) same place Joan was at in the “oh divine” animatic (or it could be a generic living room lol)
(0:48) liveleak for cats/cats watching animal abuse
(1:41) I’m probably gonna get this wrong since I haven’t watched hereditary in a while, but Pigeon drawing a Pigeon king as a hint that she was supposed to be the original vessel for the cult
(2:05) for a second the two other cats look at Bridget and she smirks, maybe her knowing that her poisoning Pigeon worked (if it was her)
(2:24) Deer represents the pole that decapitates Charlie in the movie since it causes the driver to swerve and run over Pigeon

(2:37) Deer`Leg’s reluctant glance back.. (is it just me or does his breathing speed up a little when he looks back?)
(2:49) Rex cawing/barking to alert that something is wrong(?)
(3:21) the timing of that time stamp is perfect lol… also I feel like Deer`Leg standing in front of the sun is hinting at something

I like your addition of the deer and the fact it was a bike and not a normal car
In the movie theres a lot of universal coincidences (the cult as well) And the way you added the bike swerving for the deer and the fact Deerleg dropped pigeonkit by being startled. If those both events wouldnt have magically happened Pigeonkit wouldve been fine.
This is definelty im my top 3 AUs for anything movie or anytthing "Catified"

Im glad you added Deerleg and Peter both making that insane/lost face at the end.
That scene always messes me up, not even the road part but the discovery of the girl, The way he just shut down and you see his blank face as you hear his moms curdling scream.... isn't usually shown in media but it happens a lot. Especially when you have a mental illness and snap because it just becomes so overwhelming.
Adore how you kept the eyes goat eyed as well, the scene wasn't supposed to be pretty. Your art IS pretty but wasn't meant to be I feel
The expression on Pigeonkits face at 1:56 (and the way you draw cats screaming in general) is so RAW and Crazy!!!
It mirrored a real kitten scared and cornersd PERFECTLY it freaked me out!!!

As a smoker i love the scene where he nabs the catmint its jsut cute and relatable
I was wondering how you would turn the party scene into something that made sense for the warriors universe, and them going to a party with a bunch of house cats was PERFECT!! And how Pigeonkit died in the same way being transferred with her getting hit was just agh it hurt. And Deerleg just grabbing her headless body and bringing it into the den and the foreshadowing of her carrying the head of a pigeon around at the beginning I’m just like oh my god this is incredible
I’m loving the way you adapt the Hereditary story into cats. Your emotions capture the feelings from the film so well the cats look so much like their actors it’s insane! You can tell the what the source material is without stating it and that’s so hard to do your killin it!!!

I’m not really a horror person, but I love a good cat au. The composition in both this and Sleepwalk is really good, I especially love how small and out of place Pigeonkit feels at the party, really captures being a kid surrounded by unfamiliar adults. I also like the way you both stylize the cats and make them resemble their actors.

I don't know how you did it but it's even more gut wrecthing then the movie, there is something about him just on auto pilot carrying pigeonkits body home and putting her to bed that makes it so much worse.
I love that you kept the idea that the people at the party made the cake intentionally so it would kill Charlie, but updated with Warriors logic (deathberries)!
This is so well made. Without even watching Hereditary before, i could make out a clear story here and figure out what had happened
So so late to be commenting on this, but linking the song's connection to death that was inevitable (Laika, bless her heart, and Alex in the story of the song) it really makes it even smarter and more fitting of a choice for Hereditary. Charlie's (Pigeonkit's) death was made inevitable, and they really were "pawns in this horrible, hopeless machine."
I'm still absolutely so obsessed with the way you managed to capture the characters from the films perfectly into cats, it blows my mind! Deerleg's design has to be my favorite! Ari Aster's films are genuinely some of my favorite movies ever and I'm so happy to see someone able to combine the feel of hereditary so perfectly into an AMV. Deerleg laying Pigeonkit back into her nest after the accident to Wrenstar finding Pigeonkit to the shot of Deerleg just laying emotionless in his nest, GOD chills!!! I'm super excited to see the progress on this amv, definitely excited to see this project completed someday!!!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE THE GLANCE-BACK SCENE AFTER PIGEON’S DEATH !! IT WAS ONE OF MY FAV MOMENTS IN THE MOVIE YOU CAN FEEL THE TENSION AND YOU CAPTURED IT PERFECTLY
I don’t know anything about Hereditary, I’ve never seen the movie, but this au is SO INTRIGUING. And I must say Pigeon’s death is absolutely HORRIFIC and morbid. I’m so here for it.
I haven’t seen anyone addressing this yet, but Pigeonkit was carrying a pigeon head, foreshadowing her later decapitation

Man I LOVE this au, Hereditary was a fantastic film that I unfortunately can't stomach with human characters, but I LOVE THE CHARACTERS, and you've managed to take the absolutely gut wrenching vibes the movie had and make it into something I can enjoy...If that makes sense...Love the movie but haven't been able to bring myself to watch it again, I love how you've interpreted the story to make it fit!

Forgor to comment but BRO you're delivering as always. And with each project, it gets even better. This one is so pleasing to watch. It's clear you have way more experience with camera work and it makes the storyboard feel so professional and smooth. Everything is so well thought out, the characters, their movement, their interactions, the symbolism. And of course the song choice! Can't wait to see the journey of turning this already wonderful storyboard into a full MV.

God damn, the build up to the inevitable death of Pigeonkit is gut wrenching. It has the exact same feel as Charlie in the movie and also that kid from Pet cemetary, you know she's about to die and the build up just gets so intense. I also loved the little eye flick Deerleg does, barely able to look back and see what has just happened.
Here before the premier, I just want to say I'm excited and that you've done a good job! I saw the storyboards on Instagram, and I love them, especially that one scene with the underview shot of the Kitteypets talking. (What are they plotting? Are they plotting? (We will never know.) I absolutely loved the perspective! Your work never fails to amaze me and inspire me. ^_^
After seeing how amazing your Sleepwalk amv came out, I’m so excited to see what this will look like finished!

This is crazy creative! It was so easy to tell who was who through character design, that's something I think many people can find really hard. I'm super excited to see this complete, I'm sure it'll be as haunting and intriguing as the storyboard shows it can be

i remember when you first started posting about this au/crossover and it still has me as incapsulated as it did the first time i saw it! hereditary is one of my absolute favorite films and you've translated it so well into the warrior cats universe, and it has me absolutely addicted. the way the story plays out in it's own manner is so interesting, i'm always so excited to see more of the work you put out with it. the characters are so drawable, there's an insatiable urge i have to draw deerleg.. i love him

this is so beautiful, and scary. I love how Deerlegs gaze darts behind him for a moment after Pigeonkit gets hit like he's confirming what just happened. And that decapitated head shot at the end is brutal. I watched Hereditary because of your tiktoks a few months ago and it was really good! Is there a reason why there are deathberries in the kittypet food?
In the film peter starts to glance at Charlie through the mirror, but he looks away just before he sees her.
As for the deathberries, they were planted there deliberately. In the film it’s implied that most characters aside from the main family were in on the plan.
The character I based falcontooth on (Siamese) is depicted as peter’s friend in the film, but is also seen bowing at the end in the treehouse.
His love interest, Bridget, has the surname “Molpe” which means siren in Latin.
Your Sleepwalk AMV convinced me to watch Hereditary which has quickly become one of my favorite movies. Very excited for this one, and I'm once again extremely impressed at how you translate the symbolism from the movie for the AU. I also LOOOVE Piegeonkit's design.

I have like huge mixed feelings about hereditary bc it gives me such a bad feeling but that's like the entire point so I admire that it works as a movie anyway, and oh my god this perfectly translates the Vibe of the movie, incredible!! I wonder why deer'leg left pigeons body there instead of telling his parents. I'm guessing he was still shaken up after her death and the bike/deer running in front of him, You can tell in the house how what happened slowly hits him. poor boy :(
In the film he drives home with her body in the car, and goes to bed. His mum finds her body in the car the next morning.
Similarly in the au he reacts in shock, and doesn’t know what to do. Instinctively he carries her back to her nest, hoping she’ll wake up again the next morning. He mentally blocks out the fact that she’s dead.
Oh! Thats why this seem like I’ve seen something like this, it’s from that one movie LMAO

AMAZING WORK!! How long does it essentially take you to complete a storyboard and what program do u use?? I am trying to start my animation part of my channel. But again this is a stunning storyboard and it looks like a lot of time was put into this!!
I use procreate! For me, I work incredibly fast, so I can usually bash together a storyboard in under 2 weeks. It depends on the level of detail you include in the storyboard, if you choose to be really loose and rough with the sketches, it’ll take you much less time than doing everything extremely polished (clean sketches)

how did you do the perspective blur shift thingie at 1:08 (where it unblurs the food bowl and blurs deer and pigeon)? is it something on the editing software you use?
Nope! All I do is export two images, one with the bowl blurred, and one with the character blurred. Then I just use a fade transition between them and it works well!
