Chad Smith is sitting there, glued to Earl and Hal. The new generation paying respects to the older bulls.... Very Revealing
You’re correct Chris.....Best......Joe
About 500 Gold records to his 6 or 7 can be intimidating
Chad Smith hardly the new generation been around for over 30 years
@@MrDuds1984
Everything is relative to the surroundings.
Earl Palmer (1924 - 2008)
Hal Blaine (1929 - 2019)
Jim Keltner, born 1942, still active at the age of 78 (as far as I know)
Chad Smith, born 1961, so he would've been 44 when this gathering took place, in 2005,
which means his career would've been going for 16 -17 years, or so, at the time.
Jim Gordon was one hell of a drummer, Andy Newmark also sat in the studio with Jim Gordon on a Carly Simon session & Newmark said he learned so much watching Jim Gordon playing the drums on that session. Newmark also mentioned Jim was like a drum machine! And he admired him a lot. I’ll post a link too the podcast here on RUclips.
ruclips.net/video/cUQftJ6IFVs/видео.html
Loved how Jim and Chad showed respect that Hal & Earl did double drums on DeadMans Curve. So I had to hear the song again - -with new respect for the drumming.
Thanks for watching 1......Joe
Drummers: the most important part of any band.
If the drummer is no good so follows the band
Including those that program drum machines, true!
Drums and voices (if it's a vocal group) are really important.
:-)
thats absurd
Priceless footage, what a lineup!
Thanks Dan.....Joe
Joe I always love how you are able to include some pictures of the people they are referring to in their stories. Great job 👍
Thanks Tim.... once again my video editor here at the museum, Jay, finds these pictures for me and adds them to my interviews making them much more enjoyable... for me too. Thanks again for watching....Joe
Yeah use of photos best in the biz
I’m so glad that these memories are preserved forever. It blows me away how Jay is able to come up with these great pictures of all the people that are being mentioned. I’ve watched it several times now and each time I catch something new. 👍👍👍
Jim Keltner was my favorite to watch back in the Mad Dog/Shelter days. His style was so distinctive.
Mad Dog!!!
@@ministerofdarkness Mad Dogs & Englishmen were one of the best bands of my time. I ended up working at Shelter.
Jim’s a great guy too.... best, Joe
@@razzberry5698 Cool!! Did you ever get to meet Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers?
@@shivaumesh1129 I was friends with them. That's Tom & I in my picture. I was at the first gig they called themselves TPHB instead of Mudcrutch so I call myself the first fan, not #1 fan.
Young pro's with the questions and the old pro's reminiscing with the answers - just priceless. I could listen to these cats and their stories for hours.
Thanks for watching Gary… glad you enjoyed it… Jim and Chad were truly excited talking to Hal and Earl. Best, Joe
To a drummer, seeing those guys all gathered around that pool is like looking at Mount Rushmore.
Thanks for watching Sam.....Joe
It would be if instead of Chad Smith...there was jim gordon instead.....too bad he wasn't in a position to be involved.
The first was Earl....then Blaine, then Gordon then Keltner....in regards to chronological order of ascendancy.
Great video again, let's have more! There is so much great music history at that table. Hal Blaine and Earl Palmer go all the way back to the very beginnings of rock and roll. Earl was also the drummer on all those great Eddie Cochran records, which Eddie mostly did in LA as a teenager. The list of sessions they have done is truly phenomenal. They covered so many musical styles and so many great artists that I don't think anyone will ever be able to equal them ever again.
Thanks for watching Joe..... part two is coming soon..... Best.....Joe
Earl Palmer, played drums on the Righteous Brothers, You’ve lost that Loving Feeling, which until recently was the most played song in history.
Thank you for letting me be the fly on the wall to soak in all these stories. This is music history at its best!
Joe Chambers' MHOF Channel is without a doubt THE BEST channel on youtube and a truly invaluable repository of American music cultural history. Thank you so much.
Gentleman, my dad, Joe, passed September 28th- but I know he would have really appreciated your very kind comments…it means a lot to me too. Thank you for supporting the channel, I hope you can visit the museum sometime as well.
Best,
Britt
Man I love the history. EARL AND HAL.what ledgens. All those records they played on.Wow. incredible.!
Thanks again for watching David........Joe
Your museum is one of the best I have ever visited. Your videos and interviews are of the same amazing quality. You have made the World a nicer place to be-thanks and thank God for music!
dbob3405, thank you so much for visiting the museum & for supporting the channel! Your very kind words would have meant so much to my dad, Joe, and does to me too.
All the best,
Britt
Crazy to think about all of the hit records that these guys played on let alone the ones that weren't hits. Sadly, a period in music that will never happen again.
love listening to these stories...they tie into the movie "the wrecking crew" I was lucky to have a relationship with Tommy Tedesco thru GIT
Hal Blaine cracks me up . he has a sense of humor similar to Buddy Rich . both are very witty . in this conversation between four legendary drummers Hal Blaine said “ everybody is dying , we have guys dying that never died before “ . 🙃
... :-)... I enjoy your show. Thank you.... The rainbow family of living light has a famous drum circle drum roll. They start with the Bo Diddley beat. Every few seconds, someone adds A variation, and everyone else a d j u s t s to it. Eventually, it develops into a roll, like you would do on a snare drum with sticks. The cool thing is, each separate Tiny Tap of the Roll is played by A Different Drummer. It is fairly rare to achieve this. I have heard it once, in East Texas. I was amazed.
Thanks Joe.....Joe
Joe, Man...just like always. Your channel is just a treasure of unique gems no one else has or can quite match.
Pat.... so nice of you to say... I am very happy you’re enjoying watching our videos... thanks for supporting us.... Joe
Four really great drummers, and the recording of the interview is priceless. Thanks, Joe!
Thanks for watching Ikken...Joe
Been reading Carol Kaye’s book (over and over). She has such high regard for Palmer,, as a musician and a man. Another coupe for you, Joe. You know who the key people are in music. God Bless YOU!!
That’s very kind 707… best, Joe
Great interview Joe, thanks for introducing me to Earl, really enjoyed his perspective! Looking forward to next episode!💫
Good to hear from you Larry... thanks as usual... Joe
I remember Hal Blaine being the drummer on the Patridge Family albums that I listened to in junior high school, lol.
What a great story at 9:30 about Hal Blaine and Earl Palmer tandem drumming on early Jan & Dean and Beach Boys recordings. Tom Petty said it drove him and his teenage cover band nuts that they couldn't duplicate the sound of those records, because they had no idea at the time that most of the instruments were doubled or tripled to create that Spector-like wall of sound.
Thanks for watching Andy....Joe
The music of my life, still listen to just drum tracks, did today, my good drummer from high school rock band, gone to glory now, but his music is still with me, 'sing on brother, play on drummer,,' thanks Joe, you cast a big net!
Hi Rob.... I’m very glad you enjoy these interviews.... Best...........Joe
That was awesome Joe, thank you.
I was so transfixed that when the video stopped it shook me up, lol...
Hi 2pack..... Part two will follow soon... best, Joe
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum Great to hear!!
I didn't have part one in the title and that was disappointing.
Can't wait !!
I'm not a musician but it's always been a real interest and these interviews are gold. The #1's that were played on by those men is mind boggling, 60 years of tunes that are played every hour, of every day on stations around the world, true legends in all their glory just talking. I don't recall the exact # but it was around 8 record of the year, songs of the year in a row Hal played on. Great clip Joe, you are the man. Thanks
Thanks Kevin....Joe
Thank you Joe for sharing the rare video clip of recollection of four great ones.
You’re welcome Ivan. Thank you too for supporting us.... Joe
Great video. Thanks for sharing this.
Can't wait for part two!! Thanks Joe
Thanks Stan.... part two is ready and coming soon...... Joe
People these days need to listen to more music
I miss Hal and Earl.
Thank you, sir, for this great music lesson! I never knew of Mr. Palmer and Mr. Blaine; nor did I learn of this, REAL, American music history in living color, both black and white. I loved when Chad asked Mr. Palmer of his experience, and Mr. Palmer's REAL ANSWER. I really loved how Jim opened; in light of obvious, although unspoken, Jewish control of the music industry, with how a Black Man gave an Ashkenazi Jew his first gig! And they're not dropping names, because they LIVED it! Amazing, Real, Non-PC, American popular music history. Thanks again!
Amazing. If it wasn’t videoed, I wouldn’t have believed it.
Thanks for watching Matt.....Joe
Just great, Joe. Thank you. Was watching a vid of Bobby Whitlock taking about Keltner and Gordon. Interesting.
Thank you too Bill........Joe
Definitely one for the Archives.
Thanks BT.....Joe
He is Legend - | Chad - Rim-E - Smith | will be imo , My research , every how late it may be - Bonzo was influenced heavily by Earl Palmer and Buddy Rich , and you can hear it, its Amazing , all the new or newer drummers are mostly interested in BPM , chopper or buzz roles , these type interviews will maybe help pass on the art of this whole thing , and it is a rare thing when someone can Make The Drums Talk in a way everybody loves. can you feel it - Thanks for Posting this - Great !!
Really enjoyed this. Can't wait for part two.
Thanks Mike....Joe
I can’t wait for part two! Thank you Joe for sharing these great videos!
Earl.... thanks for watching.... part two is coming....Joe
Absolute perfection! Thank you!!!
Thanks for watching Ernesto........Joe
I enjoyed this Joe! Thank you!!!
Thank you too Jim...Joe
Thanks Joe, this is absolutely awesome!!
Thanks Johnny... thanks for watching...Joe
A Drummer's Summit. Imagine if there were a few drum kits there and they all jammed.
That would’ve been great had there been a set of drums around those guys... thanks again for watching Bassman.... Joe
Thanks Joe for capturing such a truly remarkable conversation. And to think you've been hiding this treasure for 16 years, how could you?! It better not be another 16 years until we see part two ;0 !!. It was great to hear Jim K's reference to Miles' assessment technique regarding drummers for his bands!
Mono...............thanks for watching....Best.........Joe
Great interview. You did good by jumping at the chance to be there that day. Great history from drummers, two of which are now are now gone.
Thanks Mike..... Joe
🥁 If he’s a good drummer he has , “ the walk” .
The cats the invented back beat, wow” 🌟
Yeah... that’s funny isn’t it...... knowing if you’re good by your walk and your talk!!!!! Best.....Joe

That was fantastic. Thanks for posting it.

Stan Levey was seemingly skeptical of Keltner and Watts! Wow! Stan was very cordial in a video with Jim and Charlie...mind blowing.
Thank you! So enjoyable!
Thanks for watching Andrew........Joe
The Diamonds geez I remember "Little Darlin"
Richard... I’m glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching our videos....Joe
Great interview, bad video taping! Always put the sun to your back and your subject forward if possible, unless you are using filters.
Charles, my dad Joe passed away September 28th, this video was just documenting a time he was invited to Hal’s home… at the time he wouldn’t have imagined having a RUclips channel, but after the success of the channel thought it would be educational and fun to share here.

Thank you too Thomas.... all of you who watch and enjoy these interviews makes my day. Thank you very much for the kind comments......Joe
Looking forward to part two....its not often a bunch of drummers are gathered together in conversation....and I’m not sure what the collective noun for a gathering of drummers would be ? There’s absolutely no money of offer from me for that competition. Joe your vids are always interesting and entertaining and I thank you again. I declare an extra interest in this one
Thanks for watching and supporting us Barbara..... Best, Joe
Oh my gosh Joe what we have here? Thanks pal. Happy New Years!
Thanks Jordan...Joe
Three Legends and Chad Smith
Your vault is more important and valuable than Fort Knox, a Smithsonian of Cool yet musical truth. So unpretentious makes Neil Young look flashy 😎

"Ya got people dying on you that never died before..."
Nice.
Thanks Buzz....Joe
Very Nice group talk I love it Thanks all
Thanks again Nelly..... Joe
Absolutely awesome!! Thanks a bunch for posting this!! Two of my favorite drummers of all time: Hal Blaine and Earl Palmer. That being said, was Chad Smith inebriated?
Hi Thomas… no Chad… all of them were fine…. Best, Joe
Another winner!
Thanks 567.......Joe
Wow wow wow. What a summit. I lived in Memphis for a minute and I was selling cars at Bill Heard. Somebody was with a customer, as I was walking by, the customer turned around and looked at me and said, "You're a guitar player." I said, yes, how do you know? She said, "The way you walk." That James Brown story reminded me of that.
Thanks for sharing Brad.....Joe
why does Chad Smith look so much like Will Ferrell . i tried to keep a straight face when the first guy spoke, i broke lol
I would love a COMPLETE list of all songs in which Hal Blaine and Earl Palmer recorded throughout their careers so that I can create a proper Apple shared playlist for each drummer....and for all drummer fans to enjoy.
Joe only a four some of retired UPRR locomotive engineers could sit down & laugh and bullshit and out lie these guys... Great stuff Joe ... Thanks sir.
Thanks blue......Best...Joe
It's amazing how many of the first rock and roll records Earl Palmer made successful.
Hi Richard... thanks for sharing your thoughts...Joe
I love all of these drummers. And it was nice of Hal to host it at his place. But it's unfortunate how Hal monopolizes the time and doesn't really seem the least bit interested in what anyone else has to say. I really would have liked to hear more from Earl (who was instrumental in giving Hal his start in the studios). At least I've read Earl's autobiography, and his life story and experiences in the music business are amazing.
Hal Blaine is pretty self absorbed, even when he's not the host. In some other film clip I remember he came across exactly the same way.
"one of these things is not like the others..." sesame street
Normal people have to live three lifetimes to live what Hal Blaine lived in just 20 years.
I didn’t know Will Ferrel played drums.......seriously though this was an awesome interview.
Thanks again Scott....Joe
Jim Keltner tells the story of not having the live band experience early on so he asked if he could sit behind Jim Gordon. Keltner was the original drummer when Clapton was putting together Derek & the Dominoes. Then Gordon showed up in England. Wonder if that’s the band he’s referring to because Gordon’s arrival elbowed Keltner out of the D&D gig.
Hi Scott... If I talk to Jim I’ll try to remember to ask him.... thanks for watching...joe
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum thanks Joe, outstanding upload!!
Jim was the forgotten domino
I think it was Bonnie and Delaney
Very interesting discussion. Including a thug like Chad Smith in this was a shame and undermines the whole event.
Valhalla of drumming
mount everest of drummers
"There was a black union and a white union????!" - that's got to be a story in itself! (like the old Negro Leagues in baseball)
Hi John... I never heard about it but it could’ve easily have been like you say with baseball...... Joe
In what universe is Chad a legendary drummer ? The other three, definitely.
Brian Wilson idolized 'the Four Freshmen'...he pattterned the Beach Boys vocal harmonies after them...
So thats the connection with Hal.
When i was a 20 something here in Jacksonville Florida, there was a punk band called 'the Hal Blaine Band'....i dont know WHY they picked on Hal,they werent very good, but the NAME seemed familiar, so i looked into his work and figured out he had nothing to do with this punk band.
Just thought yall might sleep better tonight knowing that.
Chad has great taste to be involved with these giants...only missing Gordon and Porcaro in this interview
Kris... thanks again for watching...Joe
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum your welcome we care! Stan Levey may not of lol

When (what month, what year) was this?
Michael... I can’t remember the month but it was 2005 I believe. Thanks for watching...Joe
Is that Chad Smith, or Will Ferrell?
Hi Michael.. they look a lot alike don’t they. Chad’s sick of hearing it now:) Thanks for watching....Joe
I wonder if hanging out with these legends inspired Chad Smith to do any of the session work he's done.
I find these videos endlessly inspiring, and I'm just watching on my phone.
Hi Shawn..... Check out the interview I did with Chad. It might answer your question...best.....Joe

Why is Chad Smith there..hes a hack..not even in the same universe as Blain..Keltner..and Palmer
"L.A." cats and Chad Smith is an excellent drummer and definitely in the same universe, just not the same generation.
@@ItsBriiiiii or rudimental excellence..time sigs..actually reading drum music..these studio guys have hundreds if not thousands of hours playing anything and everything..usually in the form of sheet music...whats Chad Smith accomplished??
