I like watching you work. It helps me think my carpet isn’t really all that bad. Now since all that stuff is out of there, this would be a good time to install a short throw shifter.
Thanks for this vid man. My vette started acting crazy, horn honking randomly, hatch opening on its own, interior lights going on and off, doors locking unlocking randomly etc. Found out the passenger side carpet was soaked and am thinking the computer in the passenger footwell was the issue. Pulled that... time to remove this wet carpet (sigh). Your vid makes it look simple though. Thanks again 👍
@@coryvazquez2200 Im honestly not sure haha. We had a hailstorm and heavy rain multiple days and Id parked it under the roof overhang on the side of the house to try to avoid the hail BUT that caused all of the rain runoff from the roof to land on part of the car. Basically like it being in a carwash for hours. I think maybe water got in through the window as its not airtight? Pulled the carpet out of the passenger side and let that dry out in the sun for a few days. Took the computer out, opened the metal box, and let it sit in my bedroom for about 48 hrs. Plugged it back in and no issues with it ever since. Passenger side carpet and seat was back in in about 30 minutes. Was pretty quick and easy, so I figure youre replacement shouldnt be too hard.
Chris, I installed the similar kit in my 98 c5 front and rear, it helps but I still get a lot of road noise from the rear tires, remove the rear speakers and use dynamat extreme to help in that area. I redid my targa top with extreme and their foam sounddeader as well as a new headliner, that made a big difference. good video thanks Bob
This was VERY helpful for me. Thank you for making this. I'm also interested to know where you're getting your new insulation and carpeting. I think I will want some sound deadener as well, so maybe the same source will have that too.
Doesn't even have to be Harbor Freight I picked up one of the plastic trim panel removal kits from O'Reilly's for like 6 dollars, came with 4 little pry tools.
I find Your videos really interesting and showing a point how things can be done. I think it would be usefull to do tutorial how to remove steering wheel because there is no good one on RUclips. Good luck with Your vette!
FYI, if anyone is wondering, removing the center console might not be necessary, depending on your project. I installed sound dampening today (Siless 50 mil, with great results) and left the center console in place. I did remove the door sill panel, which is easy, but with some creative pulling I was able to get the carpet out, and replace it afterwards, without the relatively monstrous task of removing all those components and electrical connections that make up the center console.
Great video! Hugely informative. Maybe your best yet! You are fast becoming a C5 authority for me. Thanks for doing a hell of a lot of legwork to research this stuff for all us lazy guys! One question: are the screws holding the dead pedal and accelerator bumper to the floorboard also #15 torx?
Hey there, I have a quick question. Bought a mildly built C5 with stage 3 cams tuned on HPtuner that passed a PPi with flying colors pretty and drove fantastic... but all a sudden mid drive on an errand came about some issues. Would you happen to know what is up with this issue i'm having with "reduced power" literally has NO power, gains 1MPH every 5 seconds and throttle variation does nothing. It seems to be driving ok once I turn it off and turn it back on and I held down #4 button and pressed #1 button 4x to put it in self diagnostic and turning off the traction control near center armrest. Tonight I unscrewed the negative terminal on the battery to the point where it gets no power (but did not remove it) so I can ecu reset and hopefully have no problem as I have to drive it to work tomorrow at no choice lol =\ This seems highly unsafe because it kicked in mid drive and I had to pull over and luckily I was really close to a driveway to a parking lot. Excellent video by the way, I'm planning some sound deadening and interior deep cleaning soon. Thank you.
I don’t have it on my car, but there is metal in the fluid in the shocks. When you turn the dial, the magnetic polarity in the shock changes the shiftiness on the shock.
I remember when I got rid of the Bose system and replaced it in my c5, it wasn’t as hard I figured it would be.i added a 12 in sub in a custom box that fits in the rear well. Replaced all the speakers with fosgate mids and highs. A radio shop wanted 2,500 just to install my stuff.. save your money guys it’s really not hard
great job chris...i've been watching your vids way before i got my dream car....i finally got a C5 but it needs work....fortunately , you've covered almost everything i want to change about my car...for instance....i want to paint it my fave color burgundy metallic tin coat and make the interior mainly white with burgundy highlights...can't find white interior parts...does that mean everything is custom?...i only paid 9,000 for it, but i'm afraid my vision is gonna double the price....any thoughts?
Off topic, is your suspension stock? Are you planning to upgrade it? My c5 has 129k miles and shocks are shot, hoping to get some insites from you on upgrades, thx
So did you know you'd be able to remove that piece with only your finger, or did you just happen to pop it off by accident with your finger when trying to show where to put the screwdriver? LOL
Thank you for this instructional video Chris.

Very cool, Im in the process of swapping out old seats and carpets on my 2003 Z06

What ended up being the culprit of your leak? I’m about to pull the interior to trace a leak and remodel the entire inside of the car :)

Nicely done

Another great vid my friend. One of my next projects.
Dude, screw drivers mar everything...spend a couple dollars at Harbor Freight for the plastic trim removal toolkit, good for lots of tasks actually...

Got mine on Amazon and it has lots of different shapes.
It’s been awesome to see your persistence with this channel finally paying off in a big way. Looking forward to the mods! @JohnBombb
Thanks John!

Thanks Chris, Go tips on removal. I’ll be interested in what kind of insulation you will use.
I know this is an older video, but it was very helpful. What the heck happened to your old carpet? It looked like it was spray painted!
Great job. ✌🏾💯
Now THATS sitting low in the car!!! hahah

One question: are the screws holding the dead pedal and accelerator bumper to the floorboard also #15 torx?
No, they are 13mm nuts
Nice job! Almost looks like the carpet was red at one time and dyed black?
I’m not sure
I custom fit some firebird rear seats in my c5
Getting it together Chris gona be ready for the shows ps i heard the beautiful baby in the back
Hell yeah
Totally missed the rear carpet on back end where I am trying to remove right now but cant for some reason.

Hey chris my 2002 Corvette has the the selected ride control, how does it work and if you can make a video on it. Thanks
I don’t have it on my car, but there is metal in the fluid in the shocks. When you turn the dial, the magnetic polarity in the shock changes the shiftiness on the shock.
How much weight would you say you just took out (in this video)?

True. This car is pretty easy to work on.

White interior was never an option, so it would have to be custom.

I have C6 Z06 shocks and C6 Z51 sway bars.
Did you happen to keep that carpet?
No
@@mycorvettelife Okay thanks.
Seriously a tape deck 😂😂😂😂 ur soooo young do u know what it does brotha 😂😂
Lol, I do. Haven’t used one in about 25 years though. 🤣
So did you know you'd be able to remove that piece with only your finger, or did you just happen to pop it off by accident with your finger when trying to show where to put the screwdriver? LOL
how many miles does that c5 have on it...that interior is seriously nasty
120k. Wasn’t taken care of either before I got it.
Wow, what in the hell happened to your carpet?
Good question. Idk.
