Well that statement is kinda inaccurate. It stays true to it's Moe roots all through out the show. However it gets less and less fanservice-ey soon as Season 2 rolls around. A lot of that probably has to do with most of Season 2 if not all being entirely original and not based anymore of its source material like Season 1 was from what I heard and read about online

Not only that but how they perfectly reflect the certain and definite character and style of the girls and them as a band. From the dynamics between each of the girl's instruments (2 guitars, bass, keyboards and drums, which is a common band composition in rock bands) to the certain ways they individually like to play. Like take Mugi's playing for example; in many of their songs you could hear that signature organ and keyboard slides. Not only instrumentally but lyrically as well; from Mio's cutesy punk aesthetic to Yui's straightforward, honest reflection on the things she loves(predominantly food). Although it's a fictional band, from the way all of it was directed and executed, their music really feels genuine. The collective minds responsible for making K-ON's music the way that it is truly are geniuses.
