So two things about Barbuta stick out to me: 1) This game looks like something developed in 1983 for C64, not 1981. I'm sure there's a game that's a more direct influence, but Barbuta reminds me of Montezuma's Revenge (1983 game) more than anything. In general the UF0 50-verse seems to be about 2 years ahead of the real world. 2) The level design principles behind Barbuta has an 2010s mindset. An authentic early 1980s exploration platformer would have no problem soft-locking you, after all the game is only 20 mins long. Barbuta has 2 routes (maybe 3?) to approach the final boss.
Interestingly they chose not to reveal the cherry criteria until you get the gold, prior to that it just shows you the gold requirements. Great vid btw!
Without spoiling what's actually in the other games, I'll say I think you'll definitely get your money's worth from UFO 50
Already loving Bug Hunter!!

For your second point -- I definitely agree. I felt it most on the "long jump" up top to open a chest that requires movement across multiple screens
Ah yes, Metroid made by trolls 😂

I realized that as I played Bug Hunter! (LOVED it btw!) And thank you for the compliment : )
I give your review 6 barbutas.
spoilers: there are games better than barbuta
I'm already LOVING Bug Hunter!!
Not to knock on Barbuta, it's surprisingly great for what it is, but get ready to award other games like 50 eggs!
