  • Cy_Borg is the new tangent from Mork Borg, an artpunk book with old-school rules, style over substance and a hefty price tag. It's a lovely object, but is it a good and useful game? How does it compare with its older brother?

What I like about this book is invites you to discover on your own, what the game is. For example I figured, the center part of the city Cy is not Go, but „G Zero“ as in „ground zero“, where the incident happened. And as soon as you discover those bits and pieces, it made me instantly feel clever and smart as hell. 😁😄
Which led me wanting to read and discover more

I almost bought this book..still might which is why I watched the review. And yeah that "Rule Zero" didn't sit right with me. I also wanted to then run a corpo campaign and break the rule zero. In a TTRPG you should never tell the GM what they cannot do. Plain and simple. Once the game is at my table I dictate what can and cannot be done. That's how it works.
Still on the fence about buying it. If I did I'd just make "Rule Zero" not exist. A rules lite Cyberpunk style game is something I'm looking for. I do have original Cyberpunk 2020 but I wouldn't call it rules lite.

I mean, technically part of the core of cyberpunk in and of itself is looking at the rules and saying, screw the rules.I do what I want. By putting rule zero as it is , I see it as an encouragement and an invitation to the g m to be like hey , if you really think you can pull it off and make them want to be corporate Merks go ahead and try. But with the unspoken concept that it's not gonna be easy if you're fighting as the bad guys

@@Ike_of_pyke What I was saying is that previous versions of Cyberpunk games were never directly anti-police or really ant-capitalism. They were anti-corruption. Players could be members of Trauma Team, the Police, or even from a Corp. The campaign would have a different feel but it was never stated that every single Cop or Corpo was evil.

@@dagazrune6453 so they have gone on record saying that in the vanilla setting if you play rules as written and setting as is , the corps that exist in 2013/2020/red are all evil but since they allow people to make this world their own , it's 100% in the rules to make a sympathetic Corp/corpo

Then you're not playing the cyberpunk genre, you're playing future Corp drone. The whole point of the dystopia is that it is bad. Wanna be the bad guy? Fine. But you're not one of the punks. You're the boot or the ones who kiss it.

I will never understand this childish and ineffectual desire to tell people how to run games or what character concepts are allowed.
All I can think is that it is a way for the author to signal his allegiance to a certain brand of politics.

I have used the cyberpunks in a decaying sim idea as well, so I can't fault that. What I don't like is there is an end-case in the setting. I am not a fan of planned fate type games, which the exception of historical ones, I suppose.
I also share your contrarian nature and your unwillingness to mess up gaming materials, so I was nodding at those parts.

@@tomwisniewski8988 I am not required to be fait. Format wasn't my concern.
All of these artpunk games are, at core, incomplete and shoddy. They make design decisions that beg questions then don't even begin to answer, just move on to the next thing like a dog chasing squirrels. It's a bizarre and (design-wise) lazy direction for the OSR and that is why I hate them.
OTOH Wightchester looks great, lots of effort in design there. I am not sure I'll use it but I appreciate the effort put in regardless and I'm looking forward to the read.
