I was expecting to see a crushed Ronnie Peterson, after leading 78 laps to his first win, in front of his home crowd but no, the man says he is very happy to finish 2nd! What a guy!!!
Out of 22 entrants, still with us in march 2024 are Sir Jackie Stewart, Emerson Fittipaldi, Jacky Ickx, Howden Ganley, Jackie Oliver, George Follmer, Jean-Pierre Jarier. Lucky guys!!!!
Ronnie's driving style always remded me of Jochen Rindt. They both clearly thought that every car was just a go kart, and the only difference was the number of horsepower the engine had. The brake pedal only had one use, namely to be combined with full opposite lock on the steering wheel to get the car sideways before a corner. Once the car was sideways, they could then control the speed and direction through the corner with by matching the steering with the accelerator pedal. I will never forget hearing about Ronnie's death. The evening before, the news was that although he had broken legs and had breathed in a lot of smoke, they thought he would make a full recovery. I was standing in a "Comet" shop surrounded by hundreds of speakers, looking for a stereo for my Ford Cortina when the newscaster announced that he had died. I stood there for ages in disbelief. I read that after the accident the Italian authorities wouldn't let anyone go near him, including Sid Watkins whose role as F1 doctor had only recently been invented by Bernie. It is very possible that if they hadn't messed about for so long and had operated on his legs he would still be with us today. We'll never know.

I'll take that any day over the 10 buck pecker/lips hotdogs and gnatspiss beer they're selling at todays concrete bleacher seats for 300 bux a pop...
You can go to Circuit of the Americas and watch (from several areas) a Grand Prix race for as little as $110 USD. MotoGP races at the same facility are $80 USD and up. You don't NEED to drink beer at every race you attend to have a good time but if you care to, the Austin COTA GP track sells many good beers as they have several micro breweries in the area which sell to them.

When F1 was truly a tough man sport. The circuits were fast and dangerous the cars were fast and dangerous and the men who drove them knew and accepted ALL of the consequences. unlike today's modern sissified driver with all the electronic controls and aids. The circuits have become Mickey Mouse... the cars are too safe there is no danger of fatality anymore. (Jules Bianchi did not die as a result of the car or the track, but rather a massively incompetent and possibly Criminal decision by officials)
No the drivers of that time did not "accept ALL of the consequences". That's a stupid and ignorant comment. They were the first generation to really take the safety seriously. Ten drivers a year died in Formula racing during that time. Everyone knew that couldn't continue. The drivers organized themselves and refused to race if the safety standards didn't improve. They got many circuits closed due to their unsafe structure. They improved the cars, they improved the infrastructure. The death toll decreased dramatically after that.
Ashame that the Swedish culture has been completely emasculated and feminized. how long before the old world Viking there regions fall to the same Progressive fate? The West has been feminized... we are doomed as a species

Ronnie was truly one of the greats.
Absolutely the best!
His first year in a competitive car (Lotus 72D?), he set a record of 9 PP (Pole Positions) for a season.

Wow, first race I´ve ever seen! Ronnie were idol of my childhood from that race.
The F1 cars of that era look so cool with their huge rears and small fronts, looks like a road course dragster.

So Denny Hulme denies Peterson his first win in home soil and a few months later also denies Reutemann`s first win in home soil.
Hulme is a rather underrated champion. Battled Fittipaldi, Stewart, Peterson, Ickx, Brabham, Hill...competition was tough.
And with a really less competive car...

People don't like to say it, but Bianchi's negligence also led to his death. He did not slow down through 130R in the wet, despite the yellow flags.
