Very helpful! Thanks very much for putting this up. I'm a post-graduate student in the UK and I wanted to use this programme as part of my dissertation. I was having real difficulty figuring out how to use UCInet but your video has helped a lot!
Thank you , thank you, thank you... It was very helpful for me. I am starting to apply SNA evaluate effectiveness and efficiency in Organizations. You tutorial (part 1 and 2)helped me start to use the software. I still have a lot of questions but I can start, at least.
Thanks for uploading this video. I was just playing around with number of software for social network analysis. I was wondering how to start and from where? This video helped me to start... keep it up!
haii... mr. James. I am also doing research on communication network analysis. I really need once UCINET 6 applications, but I am required to enter the registration code. I do not have enough money to buy the application, can you help me to get the application without having to buy the application? I once downloaded the trial version, but it was expired. i hope u can help me.
Hi James, would you please let me know how to create a social network on a map of an island in order to show the movement of animals across the island through the network. Thank you so much in advance
Hello. Thank you for the video. I wonder if you can help me with calculating centrality measures. I am aware of the different concepts/ measures and what they mean. I have some confusion regarding directed data. I have a directed network and was looking to maybe measure the betweeness centrality. Will this work with directed data or would I have to recode it to undirected? But in doing this, is it not potentially misleading as I can infer there are possible routes to particular nodes which in practice do not exist? Thanks.
Hey, your videos have been very usefull to me and i know this is not your problem but perhaps you know why i cant use labels when i try to add attributes to the main network. i downloaded the version 6.588 but cant figure out why appears the same box saying "the labels dont match at all". I cant write on the first highlight row and column as many tutorials display, i dont even have the same menu of the spreadsheet. i hope you can help me. greetings
+Santiago Ortiz I wouldn't know why the box appears saing "the labels don't match at all" for sure, but I suspect it's something to do with the structure of your file, the way it's set up. The newer version of the spreadsheet editor for UCINET looks very different from how it appears in this video! If you'd like to send me an e-mail at james.m.cook@maine.edu with perhaps a screen capture of your file, I'd be happy to provide more thorough feedback. A final note: if "adding attributes" to the main network, that won't work if you're adding columns to a one-mode adjacency network -- because attributes of network nodes make a two-mode network. Try creating an entirely new matrix to contain attributes of your nodes.
Nasim, thanks for writing. If you want to get started with social network analysis, try Christina Prell's Social Network Analysis: History, Theory and Methodology or Hanneman's online text: faculty.ucr.edu/~hanneman/nettext/ ... best of luck!
My thesis is on friendship network of third graders. I am using the data which has been collected by my supervisor. This data is in excel and it has three sets of column: reciprocated friendship, Unreciprocated received (child received the friendship nomination but did not reciprocate), Unreciprocated made (child nominate the someone, but he did not reciprocate). Currently, I print the excel file and then enter it again in Ucinet matrix . I enter out-degree in row and in-degree in column, but this is really time consuming and it may introduce error to the data. I was wondering if there is way to convert this format to the Ucinet data matrix?

this helps me so much thank you professor
Thank you ... this video helps any beginner for social network analysis without programming knowlegde....
Marvelous walkthrough.

Awesome. I learned something I have been wanting to learn for a long time. Thank you so much! I want you to be my Guru.
I loved it, and learned it well. Thank you so much. You are an awesome Professor.

"excuse my dog" haha. Amazing, really helpful!

Perfect James!
