My "New Server" From 2020 - Jody Bruchon Tech

- A previously unpublished video intended for r/DataHoarder. I gave up on Plebbit because anything interesting I posted was downvoted to oblivion, so it was never published. Reddit sucks. This server no longer exists; it was parted out and I built a really sweet Fractal Design Node 804 cube server to replace it.

Icydock does great trays, but expensive
@@TheDdm1234 Yeah, I wanted one of those and that's exactly what I was thinking about when I mentioned no trays. Also, icy, not icky
I'm sure they make great stuff but I got 2 of their 4x 2.5" enclosures and they're terrible. You cannot put 4 HDDs in. The enclosure cannot power all 4 of them at the same time. Also, 3/8 ejection mechanisms are broken. I think they were mainly expecting people to use SSDs for that kind of enclosure, but there's nothing in the documentation that mentions this. I was disappointed mostly because of the cost of the enclosures.
The foam solution is great, I made a stand for my gpu out of a soviet toy construction set cause why waste 20+ bucks on a plastic stick
I have had terrible luck with the Toshiba NS300 drives. I recently started swapping them out for Seagate Ironwolf thanks to a NewEgg sale.
Fortunately, these were the older models. Something like DT100ACA300
@@JodyBruchon nice
the only problem i see is moving that system on its side out of the way a year down the road and forgetting they are only secured on one side , because honestly that's what would happen to me!
@@boblabelle6704 Fortunately the drives are very tightly secured and the foam isn't strictly necessary!
