AC invacar, seen them on the streets as a kid, totally bizarre little blue things.this has to be the best video on RUclips, that phantom was something else
I just love these creative vehicles. Wish I had a few to actually drive around. Love the streamlining. Hard to pick a favorite, but the Boat car looks fun, and several of the most streamline ones are great sculpture, and of course the Tucker is superb. There are Tuckers on display at the AACA Museum in Hershey PA. A great museum to visit. I wonder if any of the others were ever on display there.
I had Alex Tremulis (Tucker designer) as a transportation part-time design teacher in Detroit, mid-60s. Didn't get much design work done when he came in. Students all wanted to hear his stories about the Arfon brothers at salt flats and the motorcycle speed record, salt flats, Auburn Cord and Duesenberg. A great guy. Greg Mooney
My favourite vintage car was my grandfathers, passed on to my father. A1934 Morris ten-six, Registration number BMP 861 Not many of then were produced as most people went for the ten-four. I hope someone has preserved this car because many years after it was sold I actually saw it on the road.
In case anybody's wondering: #12, the Invader GT VW kit car, was not produced until the early 70's. This particular example turns up elsewhere online, and apparently is *built on* a '62 chassis.
Jawa is a motorcycle manufacturer in Prague, founded by František Janeček, before WWII, and it is still making motorcycles today. making cars was just a try, but they stayed into motorcycle industry.
If you grew up in the 1940's or '50s, see if you agree with me that the 1938 Phantom Corsair (#6) was probably the inspiration for that era's comic-book Batmobile. Just add a huge bat-wing sail on the back.
My favorite design would be the Tucker torpedo no 8. Great design! Second number 17 also a beauty. Don't care much for the tech specifications, I just look at what's a pleasure for the eyes!
15 that car is beautiful. and God I love Morgans We waste so much now. under 50 hp over 122 miles an hour.... come on man.... we have 400+ hp cars now that dont come close to that.
Nice presentation. I used to live next to the Tabot factory in London, which was the oldest car plant in the world that started in 1902 (now offices and housing) Before this factory, cars were produced mainly in sheds or factories that were built for other purposes, but the Talbot plant was the first purpose built car making plant in the world. Incidentally, Talbot is pronounced Tall-But
Sixty years ago I was an early morning paperboy along the "new car strip" in Dayton, Ohio! I saw all sorts of fun and odd looking cars but the one that has stuck with me the longest was the Italian designed Isetta Zoo which featured the door in the front and tiny tires in the back. I wonder who purchased that particular car? Anyone?
#16 is my personal favorite considering I was able to handle to exhaust 'stacks' while being HPC coated. Having also been blessed to meet the Jenkins on multille occasions. So yeah...Im pretty biased. If you want more info on the Mormon Meteor- it has been featured on Jay Lenos garage, as well as housed at the Prices Museum of Speed also in Salt Lake City.
'Boys of Bonneville' film/documentary-tells the Jenkins story with the Meteor(s) released abt 6 yrs ago, narrated by Patrick Dempsey. Highly recommended, You won't be disaapointed. $1.99
Omg I want the Tucker! So many fascinating cars. TYVM for video. Now going to watch “Tucker” again. Francis Ford Coppola. I think I’ve forgotten most of it or confused it with the Edsel & designer for the rest. Tucker: the Man and his Dream (1988). On Amazon streaming, buying the film is $8 or 9, &:renting is $4.
Pulling into the refueling station in my 1959 Ford Nucleon, "Fill 'er up", I say. The attendant says, "That'll be one hundred and thirty thousand dollars". "Do you give green stamps?", I inquire. His reply, "No sir. We don't". "Forget it!"
Somehow ashame that I did not put the Persu one whitch is in my hometown,Bucharest technical museum and which I know since childhood.Allways thought that it looks funeral like. For sure it was a big step in terms of aerodynamics...but esthetically...
You made it sound as though electric cars were weird before the 21st century, they were about but didn't catch on because battery technology was garbage, I think it was around the late 20s when an electric car held the world land speed record. Thanks for the post.
Warrior Wombat Detroit Electric held the longest distance on one charge until Tesla came out with the Model S. It wasn't battery technology it was the fact that gas cars were cheaper and more practical.
Jimmy Grant, they may have been cheeper, but battery technology has only really progressed since the latter part of the 20th century, the main thing that put off potential buyers was the little problem of the cars running off electricity when most houses didn't have it at the time. Batteries were very large, very heavy and did not hold a charge very well. Even steam cars were more popular in the early days of motoring than the electric cars, simply because people understud the process behind it.
Actually electric cars were quite popular with ladies who's families could afford them. They were SO much easier to operate than gas or steam cars. Then the electric starter came out and that was pretty much the end of the electric car for a century.
Jeff DeWitt, I know, I think that was a bit of a shame. My father had a steam wagon in the 60s, it's a shame he got rid of it, it would be worth quite a bit now.
Warrior Wombat--- News flash-- electric cars are STILL weird! Ditto for the battery technology-- it's still insufficient for practical driving. And which land speed winner is practical for street driving? The one with 4 Pontiac V-8's? Or the jet-powered one? What? LSR winners are entirely irrelevant to automotive technology.
There would be almost no car crashes. Fear of mutual assured destruction would make people very careful and dumb drivers would not survive) But first we will have to use up all the oil.
The only US aircraft to carry a nuclear reactor was the NB-36H. The reactor was never actually connected to the engines. The Russian Tupolev Tu-95 bomber. It had 4 conventional turboprop engines and an onboard nuclear reactor that was never connected to any engine as well.
Cool stuff! (The Tucker was never called "the Torpedo." That was an earlier design -- which ironically looks like the sports car Tucker built briefly in Brazil. The well-known Tucker is always "the 48."}
I've seen the car at a couple of museums, I's now at the Reno auto museum but has also been displayed at the Black auto museum in Danville, California. I cannot recommend the Blackhawk enough as they have the most amazing collections going through and if it's quiet you can talk to a docent and get a very good look at most of the cars there.
Considering it was a 1938 design, I think it's safe to say stealth planes were modeled after it, rather than the other way 'round. But I seriously doubt the aircraft designers had it in mind.
So much commentaries about how you pronounce French words, trying to correct you by telling you ways to say it that aren't better that you do... Someone even put an "r" in the phonetic of "l'oeuf" :D :D :D As a French, there's three solutions here: continue to pronounce it as you want, do a quick search using translators wich give you the good phonetic, or ask to some French people; sure I'm not the only one to watch your videos ;) I know this video is months old, but I had to say it. Other than that, cool stuff dude, you have a sub (and as I said, I'm French, so my english could be a bit clumsy; sorry about that :) )
📢Do you have a favorite vintage car? Let us know in the comments below!
Cord 812
The Tucker, `66 Shelby Cobra AC & the `71 De Tomaso Pantera for the win!!
1936 Duesenberg SSJ Speedster. I know it's wildly specific. There were only 2 made. Or the Lincoln Futura, basis for the Batmobile.
Minds Eye Design Toyota Prius : VEGAN Edition . It's powered by Farts and Gas Emissions Protests

Hello Pae Dahe, thank you for watching!
I love that Tucker and have wanted one since I saw the movie about them in the 90s.
Greg Mooney

That Corsair is breathtaking.
Watch Tucker the man and his dream it captures the spirit behind every single one of these cars
The boat car is really cool!
Nice video. Love the cars.
Thems were the days man. When they designed and built a car that looked like a boat to be funny and creative. Nothing like that no more.
Awesome Cars Minds Eye!
Jawa is a motorcycle manufacturer in Prague, founded by František Janeček, before WWII, and it is still making motorcycles today. making cars was just a try, but they stayed into motorcycle industry.
Some of these designs should be revived.
Nice video and gave a like.
Thank you well done love it.
I love number 17, That's the one
WOW! A GREAT site ...... :)
You could do a stand alone video on each car ...... !!!!! :)
If you grew up in the 1940's or '50s, see if you agree with me that the 1938 Phantom Corsair (#6) was probably the inspiration for that era's comic-book Batmobile. Just add a huge bat-wing sail on the back.
+Cetok01 not from that time frame but I definitely agree. Such a beautiful vehicle! Way ahead of its time!
Thank God for modern designers. That's all I have to say about that!

Just found your great videos. New sub.

We waste so much now. under 50 hp over 122 miles an hour.... come on man.... we have 400+ hp cars now that dont come close to that.
Very good video but number three is just an American Dream.
The 1962 Invader GT has taillights from a 1972 Maverick?
Love this vid.

The Boat Car looks like the predecessor to all of the vehicles in Bikini Bottom.
it should be towing a carboat
great show , I liked the shark car the best :)
Nice presentation.

I would like a pontoon boat car.
The Tucker should have been made for year's. Good car
The Flying Wombat ill have to try that.
Sixty years ago I was an early morning paperboy along the "new car strip" in Dayton, Ohio! Love to know what some of those designers were smokin.
I love that phantom coursair and if I’m ever a billionaire I will own one.
Thumbs up.
Thanks for the great video

Creative
That 1923 Audi Jaray was unbelievably ahead of its time, body-wise!
#16 is my personal favorite considering I was able to handle to exhaust 'stacks' while being HPC coated. Having also been blessed to meet the Jenkins on multille occasions. The Tucker should be produced for today's buyers.
My top 3 = 1 Phantom 2 Western Flyer 3 Boat Car.
5:55 fantastic!
I bet there's no Russian who knows about this car!
I myself got to know about it just here and now....
Yep, this information is not so popular in Russia. Nice to see it here ✌🏻
This video is good. 😍
I'll stick with my all original 1969 Pontiac Firebird. It's a timeless classic. With a 400 4spd it doesn't accelerate, it jumps.
Do you have your Smokey and the Bandit mustache and cowboy hat too?
0-60 mph time, 6.2 seconds. Yeah right real jumper you got there, Hahahaha
WARPHEAD hi

Hello Alistair McElwee, thank you for watching!
5:05 lol looks like Lightning McQueen ;)
Meet George Jetson! His boy Elroy, daughter Judy, Jane, his wife!
Who would have thought the boat that don't float didn't sell.lol
The Phantom Cruiser aka wombat was a sharp looking car for it's time. I bet the exterior design could be modified to today's standards.
Good narrating.
1941 western Flyer,Nardi Giannini Bisiluro,Zil 112 Sport.1947 Morgan,Tucker 48,Framo Stromer.And of course Fiat boat car.
Somehow ashame that I did not put the Persu one whitch is in my hometown,Bucharest technical museum and which I know since childhood.Allways thought that it looks funeral like. For sure it was a big step in terms of aerodynamics...but esthetically...
more details please!
Awesome!! That's so cool!! I subbed, BTW.

Love the egg car
Nucleon - Extremely impractical, but at least it's radioactive.
The Morgan F super was the best for me in the video , some cars in the video were not only cool but were also weird , no offence.
ag135i I concur, they are weird but in a good way
RYAN CLARK 1941 Western Flyer! Would love to have that
ag135i i
Panhard Dynavia 1948. It defined the proper shape for minimum drag and got 80 mpg.
I saw an invader gt on Craigslist a few days ago
Good call on Axing the Nucleon (Dumb drivers & Nuclear energy -what a combination) However love to have that model.
There would be almost no car crashes. Fear of mutual assured destruction would make people very careful and dumb drivers would not survive)
But first we will have to use up all the oil.
there was a nuclear airplane, you know? Those reactors can be light and small enough
USSR had a flying nuclear plane. Also portative nuclear reactors for Siberia outposts that still in use. Those can be safely carried by a truck.
B. .
The only US aircraft to carry a nuclear reactor was the NB-36H. The reactor was never actually connected to the engines. The Russian Tupolev Tu-95 bomber. It had 4 conventional turboprop engines and an onboard nuclear reactor that was never connected to any engine as well.
The front of the Western Flyer looks like a Cylon face from Battle Star Galactica.
I like the video car
Cool stuff! (The Tucker was never called "the Torpedo." That was an earlier design -- which ironically looks like the sports car Tucker built briefly in Brazil. The well-known Tucker is always "the 48."}
The Phantom Corsair had an exquisite paint job. I wonder why there are not more cars that are modeled after our stealth fighters, or bombers?

Brent Schmidt I had a hot wheel toy of the car when I was young.
oh my god!! that corsair is the most fantastic car ever!!! I would buy one right now even if ford made it!!
HA!..... dont you think trump would like a huge portion of the population to be silent and un seen?
1934 Chrysler Imperial Airflow would have been a nice addition.
Absolutely. The list is too short.
