Age 66, 5'8'', 173#. Three months ago, I went from 6 workouts per week to four (three days of rest for muscle groups instead of two) and changed over to a few pulley exercises. Also upped my protein intake by 25 grams per day (one extra protein shake). Added three pounds (in the right places) with less time and effort as before. May not seem like much but it is with my frame. Thanks for your over-40 videos, guys!

excellent info, I,m 63,pre-diabetic, can´t sleep well, can´t recover well, and I don´t exactly know how to eat properly,I ate all of kind of foods , especially fast absorbing carbohydrates which was one of things that brought me to my pre- diabetic state, and because of that I lost a lot of the mass I used to have, I only cared about being huge,, all this has increased my anxiety and depression issues , I am guilty of swapping programs a lot, and right now I decided to lower my rest periods between sets, I went from three minutes to 2 minutes rest for compound exercises and from to 1 and a half minutes to 45 to 60 seconds for isolation ones, I also increased the number of sets from three to four, after a 41-year lifting life I am completely lost, I rarely do periodization, I´m always in the hypertrophy zone, I've been training four days a week when I can, due to recovery issues and after three or max 4 weeks I must take a week off, and then the cycle repeats itself, could you please help me to get on track again, the more I watch videos, I read about this topic, the more confused I am, it seems like I have never learned to train properly and I am doing the complete opposite to what you recommend in this video, thank you for your time.

Solid content and great advice! For the guys saying that TRT is necessary f’off. I’m 53, 5-11@196lbs and 12% body fat. I did carnivore for ten months which was more of a body recomp and went from 17-11.5% body fat as I was in decent shape but was consuming too much sugar and refined carbs. Protein, discipline, and lift with purpose is what you need to make and keep gains. Best of success with everyone’s quest to optimal health…there’s no quick fix…enjoy the journey. 😎

I do progressive overload using three criteria like in your video:
    Increase reps
    Increase sets
    Increase weight.
Only when I do a session the RPE goes from 10 down to about 6 or 7 do I increase one or more of the three variables and start over again.
If it was only weights I increase, then I’d be bench pressing 2x my weight which is impossible for me

One of the reasons why we don't build muscle much over 40 is because after 40.....what's the point? 😂 Fitness is the main goal after 40. I'm 46 and getting minor injuries etc. from heavy lifting (heavy for me) just doesn't make much sense now. I'm in better shape than all my peers that I grew up with, but my days of playing football, running track and chasing women is over. I stay in shape to play with my son as he grows up. Deadlifting 405 lbs....for what?😉

Age has nothing to do with muscle building, when you take care of (for men) your testosterone supply.
Age is just a number. I am 45, and building muscles like someone younger. 🤷‍♂️
As well the food intake. There are days, where I am just not hungry at all. 2-3 days no food, is nothing unusual for me. I eat, when I'm hungry.
I don't take extra powders, for growth. Chicken, Pasta, Rice, Nuts, Salmon and vegetables high in iron.
