My dad was a Doberman and a German Sheppard breeder. We would get visits from Law enforcement and military from the US to buy his dogs the base cost $2,500 and above per dog. The dogs would stay with him through training, then additional training would be held with the new owner. The more training the more expensive the dog. Commands were in German or Spanish. Our Dobermans name was Blackie, my dad would instruct her at night, no one comes into our property and no one exits. We lived in Mexico at the time in a huge house surrounded by 3 block and glass walls and a large iron gate in the front of the property. on various occasions we found blood on the wall or shredded clothing from people trying to break in or out LOL. Our German Sheppards name was Loba she was very intelligent, she would sit in the middle of the yard. When a kid would approach the gate Loba would just watch, but if an unknown adult approached she would charge at them, it was amazing to see who she considered a friend or enemy. Part of the training was that they could not consume anything not served by their master, the reason; in Mexico thieves feed dogs food with Glass to kill them and be able to break in to homes. Often we found hot dogs in our yard with glass particles untouched by our dogs! We also had an albino German Sheppard her name Blanca her puppies were the only ones sold as family dogs. He would breed every other year to allow our females to recover.

There are still many Americans that don’t know the difference between American and European Dobermans. Because of the breeding that has changed a lot even over the past 30 years.
There was a time where the Doberman was generally regarded as a go to for security and law enforcement. The dobe was an over achiever in this area. nowadays some Americans would simply be confused if you suggested that a good Doberman may be a better choice for a police agency than a GSD or even a malinois.
The American Dobe is a fine dog, but the Euro is a completely different dog that resembles that of what Dobermans were originally bred for.
The Euro Doberman is faster and has a considerably stronger bite than both the GSD and the malinois. The Euro is a star performer in Scutzhund and has the intelligence and the nose to be a top flight tracker and rescuer. All this considered, the Doberman can make a loyal and loving family member that is gentle with children.
I think too many Americans misunderstand the difference between the two breed varieties because of how things have changed and how fast these changes have come about. This is a bit sad to me.

"Greatest dog in the world." people are always making this statement about their dogs. Truth is your dog is only the greatest dog in the world for you. Would your dog pull a sled as well as a Husky.? Would your dog haul in fishing nets and rescue people in icy cold water as a Newfound dog would? Could your dog hunt, dig out and hunt vermin as well as Terrier type dogs? Can your dog rescue avalanche victims? Your dog , I admit, if trained properly, came from European bloodlines, and didn't suffer from the multiple heath issues that come with both types of Doberman dogs, probably would excel at being a fantastic personal protection dog, but best dog in the world? Really!.. So tell me'why is your dog or your dog's breed, the best in the world? I kn ow the posts on here are a few years old., but I will keep checking to see if I get a sensible and educated answer.

Great movie...supposedly based on a true story about a Dobe that was rescued from fighting by a little girl after she found him left for dead and he followed her from Chicago to LA. The dog that plays the lead in the movie named Tripoli is outstanding (a Doberman). It will make you cry even if you are a grown man, a few parts are over the top, but all in all it is very good.

had a black one with dark mahogany colour.
And a red one with a white patch on its chest the size of a quarter..
Man do I miss the two.
But boy oh boy were they ever high-strung..
Come home one night from work.
    One week of having them.
My leaving room Carpet was ripped from one wall to the other side of my leaving room wall.
My leather sofa ripped apart so much that the wood was exposed of where the arm rest was with teeth markings in the wood of the arm rest.
Along With a trail of foam Sponge and wood chips all over the the leaving room floor into the hallway and the kitchen..
Called them the dynamic duel of destruction..
Man was I ever pissed but when a lil time passed by I cared very much for the 2 fuckers..
They were a lot of work. ..
But regardless they were my Boyz.
And I will say this. they were very, very loyal dogs...🤞👌👍

Sorry that this tard, doesn't want effection out of a companion, he needs pitbulls. he only loves the bone structure and size, which one of my American Dobies is 126 pounds. While you may need to be “active” you don’t need to be crazy amounts of active. I used to have a Belgian Malinois and he was well trained. It really depends how you raise these animals. My “little” boy Kylo loved to play and WORK. I worked him and I met his needs. He wasn’t aggressive with other dogs or destructive at home. He knew what time was work time vs chill out time at home. Kylo might’ve been an exception for the malinois but it really comes down to how you raise your animal. However, I DID devote various amounts of time to him as a pup laying down the rules as an alpha in the household. It’s hard to take dog advice after owning him because all I heard about his breed was “HIGH EXPERIENCE ONLY, HIGH DRIVE, HE WILL BE AGGRESSIVE IF YOU DONT EXERCISE ENOUGH.” It was very intimidating but I persevered and adopted my dear friend. I’m glad I did but at the end of the day don’t be like I was before I pulled the trigger. If you really love your pet and being a pack leader then the animal will be the vision of the perfect pet. -My two cents

Dobermen are fierce guard dogs. If you want a doberman to work, then give the dog some meaningful work.

I totally agree I've owned both American & European dobies but I like the high drive. I do have a 3/4 Euro male his drive is so high he could play fetch all day without tiring out lol. it can be hard to handle such a driven dog if you don't have the time to work them but I play & work my babys all day then at night there lap dogs 😁

    Great video!
European Dobermann are incredible. I'm amazed however that this guy is able to keep two intact males together? Male Dobe's are known for being extremely same sex aggressive.

johnRFC1872 you don’t see them together much and when they are it is during training. More focused on him than each other. A play date in the backyard might not be the best for the two. Lol.

That’s interesting. I purchased a 1/2 American and 1/2 European (Germany) Doberman from an accidental breeding. Dam was show dog. So they sold the puppies at a reduced price. Anyway the male I bought had a lot of drive. He nailed a burglar who broke into our house. He was absolutely the best Doberman I have owned to date. I have a deposit on a European puppy for next year.

This man is 100% correct I wish all Doberman Pinscher breeders had the same attitude in fact I wish all breeders did.
American breeders have a lot to answer for when it comes to dog breeding take the German Shepherd for example the US wanted very small stunted rear legs its that bad I classify it as a deformity those poor dogs could not herd sheep for a day with those legs. The American Doberman is much weaker than the European one again the American breeders wanted a smaller dog going totally against the origins of the breed, Dobermans were bred for personal security. I believe a Tax collector wanted the protection against angry tax payers (some things never change) the current American Doberman is no way near as intimidating let alone capable of performing the task it was bred for.
I don't mean to slag America so much BUT the US market is huge so therefore has a huge influence a country of dog lovers doing serious harm to so many breeds more Americans should speak up about this issue.
For the record I am not anti-American its just I am realistic in saying how influential and powerful America is these days something especially too proud Europeans are willing to admit.
So come on my fellow dog loving friends from the great Nation of America speak up and let breeders know you want healthy pure breeds not dogs that have been so severely and drastically bred they cant even give birth without a vets intervention or the mother and all puppies will die (the British Bulldog cannot free whelp i.e give birth naturally the puppies shoulders are too wide so a cesarean is needed or ALL will die).

Hey Gerald , I am interested in the European Doberman Pinscher but when you explained that the Euro breed isn’t necessarily a pet as much as it is a working dog, would you say that if I wanted a Doberman that is by my side , is a great companion but also has that drive, should go for an American ?

    • @mesozoicperiodvlogs8323
      @mesozoicperiodvlogs8323 5 лет назад

That’s a good question would be nice to hear back from him. I love the beauty of the dog but I don’t want to work him I just want him to be my friend!

    • @LaLaLonna
      @LaLaLonna 4 года назад

The American Doberman is more of a family dog. The German Doberman is more of a working dog. Both need activity but you will find that the German Doberman is larger and needs more activity. In Europe you will find some police forces use German Dobermans but you won't really find an American Doberman being used for the police force. German Doberman never back down and work.
If you want a Doberman that is more intune with your emotions and more of a family dog, but will still provide some protection you want an american.
If you want a protection dog that won't back down, is larger, and is a workhorse (you have a high activity lifestyle) get a German.

I had a doberman named alex ,so humble he was ,i miss him he died at age of 9,the problem with dobermans is that as they age they develop problems with their back/hips,he got this dieseas that like paralysized his back legs, and we put him down,i lied to the kids about it,and told them that i gave him to the vet so they can look after him forever.

Hey i'm from Jackson, Ms my self went to Provine class of 87 my sister class of 81 and we grew up around Dobermans. The last Dobbie i had was a Warlock Breed we bought out of either Lake Charles La or Cameron La its been a long time. That was in the late 80's and my Dog was named Prince very smart dog. My moms boyfriend at the time use to raise Dobermans and one day when i was at school he took my dog to fight with one of his friends dog and when i asked were he was all he could say is that he is gone. (that sorry piece of shit got my dog killed) over the years i have let that go and i go see him from time to time because he is dealing with thought cancer and i help out when ever i can.

I prefer the American Doberman. For our litigious society, a dog that is mellow enough to go anywhere with you is the best dog around, and they still make great guard dogs.
My trainer owned the first UDT SchIII Doberman in the US. I had one of his great-grandsons and he was able to go into crowded airports, banks, nursing homes and the like with no problem whatsoever. We could put a 'Pet Me' sign on his bench when we were showing at the Cow Palace. But if you thought this dog was going to help you steal the family silver, you were very much mistaken.
He wasn't so driven that all he had on his mind was going after bad guys. He combined being easy going with intelligence and protectiveness. That's what you want in a dog.

Oh, yeah, in terms of health, he was still active two weeks before I had to put him down. He lived to be 11 1/2 years old.

SHUT UP! you not perfect. He learned through his two trial and left the two dogs with other responsible owner who didn't need a high drive working dog. Who rather have a gentle house dog. Only way you have research material is through others trial and error. Now, after what he learned, he added his finding to the collection of others research. That's how it works. You just sick back and throw shade but won't spend the money or energy to bring something constructive to the table.
