It's probably the most complicated and intricated lore among all the kpop industry and orbits (fandom name) go crazy for it. It started in 2016 with the first solo song predebut by Heejin (they have one for each member, so 12 in total) and it's still going. They are also divided in 3 sub units by order of debut: Loona 1/3 consists in Heejin, Hyunjin, Haseul (leader of the group) and Vivi (the only foreign member, from Hong Kong); Odd Eye Circle consists in Kim Lip, Jinsoul and Choerry; yyxy consists in Yves, Chuu, Gowon and Olivia Hye. LOONA is one of my favorite groups of all time. Their music is just so diverse and unique at the same time. They have some of the best bsides in kpop imo so their albums are worth a check. As others are saying in the comments,yes, LOONA has the most unique predebut project ever where each is revealed and debuted as sololists + 3 subunits of 3 to 5 members in the span of 18 months before their debut. They also have the LOONAVERSE which spans across over 30+ mvs starting from their predebut in 2016 till this day. I hope you deep dive into LOONA if you are interested enough!

The international dancers featured often relate to scenes from the Loona solo and subunit storylines that were in previous mvs, elaborating on a teaser for the song that said “for all the Loonas around the world,” and their message that we are all Loona.

Its a channel creating really good content explaining the lore. They focus only on what is confirmed instead of alot of theories. Oh they do spoil the pre debut mvs tho.
But the pre debut stuff is really crazy. Bbc really went all out. The variety in concepts and music genres makes it easy to listen too the whole discography and not skip anything. A total of 29mvs: 12 solos (+several duets and special mvs) 5 subunit mvs (+several special mvs of bsides)

And it started with their solos so to understand it you probably would have to watch all the MVs, look at all the lyrics, read all of the MV descriptions and watch all the teasers and 'unreleased' content since their predebut lmao.. but the best thing its all based on theories so theres not a fixed storyline! Loona is one very talented group. Their whole discography is so unique and just beautiful. On top of that they have some of the best choreographies in Kpop and are incredibly synchronised too. Seeing first-time reactions to LOONA always makes me feel major feelings. Some fun facts and answers to questions you asked in the video (which you might know by now since this reaction is a few months old): Yes there's a storyline, LOONA has the most complex lore in the history of K-Pop, it's a trip, there's string theory and Orthodox theology and color theory and all kinds of stuff going on. All the weird stuff like the meteors and burning feathers and stuff, all the space/moon references, the missing shoe, all that is in the lore. The "fly like a butterfly" line in the drop in Butterfly: Hyunjin did that in one take, not even thinking it was the actual take, and G-High hit the talkback button and said "okay perfect." On "that sound" that's Monotree, mostly G-High. It changed after So What due to... reasons. Monotree have some awesome session review videos on their channel if you're curious and have time to kill. The major change in style from the first two to Why Not is because of those other reasons. Basically their shitty company didn't do anything for a long-ass time, and then decided to change everything to chase awards and CFs. It totally worked, and all us old Orbits eventually came around, but it was very jarring. (Also fun fact: the explosions in Why Not are not GCI, they fired explosives at Heejin and she was totally unfazed. Queens of not using green screens!) So What fun fact: the chorus choreo is so challenging that they did a TikTok challenge, but then did another "easy" version so fans could actually do it. So What also has the best bridge in the entire history of girl group songs (second best in K-Pop, because Exo's Tempo exists). PTT: remember the burning feather at the end of So What? The girl who had fire wings in PTT, that's related, she's the leader of the group and PTT was her first comeback after a long health hiatus. And the neon wings were actually on fire, they REALLY don't use CGI unless they absolutely have to.
oh girl, I promise the last thing you’ll ever regret is listening to more loona, ESP their bsides. in fact, you’ll probably regret not having stanned them sooner. Im watching ur reaction and they actually had a really unique predebut project! Each girl got a solo (and a bside) starting from October 2016 and even they had 3 subunits (3 albums and 2 repackages) that promoted before they all debuted as a group at August 2018! So since they were from an unknown company they had to make much noise to get attention from the public

27:41 Girl IS there a story line? They have their own universe called Loonaverse and literally everything: MVs, choreo, lyrics etc play into it! And it started with their solos so to understand it you probably would have to watch all the MVs, look at all the lyrics, read all of the MV descriptions and watch all the teasers and 'unreleased' content since their predebut lmao.. but the best thing its all based on theories so theres not a fixed storyline! There are many theorists that make videos explaining either the MV's, members storyline or just explaining their general timeline of events

But Jinsoul prefers singing to rapping and also acts like a lead vocalist. I agree that LOONA are aces, but it’s not like she’s genuinely a rapper first like Soyeon or Chaeyoung. She was made to rap by BBC; Jinsoul *studied* vocals.

Since Caitlin asked who was hitting the highnote in the background I answered her and also added that Jinsoul is considered one of the main rappers (cause she raps in Satellite, Oops, Pose, SITR, Egoist...) but she's also a lead (if not main, I'm not an expert so I can't tell) vocalist material. Just for example, on Queendom she was in the vocal unit but in the finale she was one of the girls who was rapping (Hyeju, Sooyoung and Heejin, who are also lead vocalist material, esp the last two), so in conclusion Loona is def an ace group

Loona is one very talented group. Their whole discography is so unique and just beautiful. On top of that they have some of the best choreographies in Kpop and are incredibly synchronised too. I hope you find some time to check out their dance practises and even some of their golden bsides. Oh and not to forgot they are absolutely hilarious and emit peak crackhead energy lmao

caitlin if you ever choose to revisit loona i’ll literally cry. they are so so talented and their b-sides are fantastic. they did a TON of predebut stuff, each member got their own solo single and they broke into subunits and each subunit released an ep or two BEFORE the group debuted as twelve. that’s how each member was revealed to the public. they’re literally all strong solo artists that debuted as a group and the lore is extensive. they’re absolutely fantastic. ik ur swamped with stuff rn but if you do decide to bring loona onto the channel it might be the best day of my life. love you sm queen. have fun at all the concerts this summer!!

Loona are super well known for being one of the best girl groups in terms of dance and synchronization!! They also are pretty well known for their dance covers of boy groups! They have done incredible covers of bts fire, nct127 cherry bomb, and got7 eclipse!
On my humble opinion as an Orbit and a Carat, knowing how much you love Seventeen you will end up stanning Loona as well, they are both royalty when it comes to dance and song production.

Seeing first-time reactions to LOONA always makes me feel major feelings. Some fun facts and answers to questions you asked in the video (which you might know by now since this reaction is a few months old):
Yes there's a storyline, LOONA has the most complex lore in the history of K-Pop, it's a trip, there's string theory and Orthodox theology and color theory and all kinds of stuff going on. All the weird stuff like the meteors and burning feathers and stuff, all the space/moon references, the missing shoe, all that is in the lore.
The "fly like a butterfly" line in the drop in Butterfly: Hyunjin did that in one take, not even thinking it was the actual take, and G-High hit the talkback button and said "okay perfect."
On "that sound" that's Monotree, mostly G-High. It changed after So What due to... reasons. Monotree have some awesome session review videos on their channel if you're curious and have time to kill.
The major change in style from the first two to Why Not is because of those other reasons. Basically their shitty company didn't do anything for a long-ass time, and then decided to change everything to chase awards and CFs. It totally worked, and all us old Orbits eventually came around, but it was very jarring. (Also fun fact: the explosions in Why Not are not GCI, they fired explosives at Heejin and she was totally unfazed. Queens of not using green screens!)
So What fun fact: the chorus choreo is so challenging that they did a TikTok challenge, but then did another "easy" version so fans could actually do it. So What also has the best bridge in the entire history of girl group songs (second best in K-Pop, because Exo's Tempo exists).
PTT: remember the burning feather at the end of So What? The girl who had fire wings in PTT, that's related, she's the leader of the group and PTT was her first comeback after a long health hiatus. And the neon wings were actually on fire, they REALLY don't use CGI unless they absolutely have to.

oh girl, I promise the last thing you’ll ever regret is listening to more loona, ESP their bsides. in fact, you’ll probably regret not having stanned them sooner. Hahah but whenever you do decide to really dive into their discography, you’re in for such a frickin treat. like I would do ANYTHING to relive discovering loona! Also yes, they have lore. It’s not unlikely at all the girls constantly talk to each other and the companies are willing to work together. It’ll happen don’t count it out they are pushing for more Loona music as a group

Paint the Town is a shortened version of "painting the town red" which is an old time-y phrase meaning, to go out on the town partying and letting loose.
I don't even stan loona but PTT is literally one the best kpop songs it's a masterpiece who even came up with this amazing song and the shenai and tabla was a cherry on top 🤧

I'm not sure if you're gonna listen to them more but if you do their pre-debut sound is so diverse and way different from their full-group sound and you might not like some of their first few songs but they get better and better as you go on

Their debut song as a whole group was "Hi High" and they have a lot of other great songs like "Universe", "Hula Hoop", "Star" & "Satellite". Not to mention their Sub-unit and solo songs. Their latest title track is "Flip That" but their finale song for Queendom 2 was "Pose".
