Aston villa 1-2 Hibs as a dons fan
If Villa put out their best team, it'll probably be a massacre. But most likely it will be their second eleven, and a narrow win for Villa. Or even a draw.
Quality and honest video. As a Villa fan, Hibs are a great club and always look out for results. The gulf in finances showed and nothing can be done about that. All the best to Hibs for the rest of the season and hopefully back in Europe next year.
There's plenty of Villa fans that have for a long time adopted Hibs as our Scottish club. Great club, wonderful and friendly fans, I'm imagining after this tie even more Villa fans will adopt Hibs. They're a class act on so many levels.
Thought Hibs gave us way too much respect and didn't expect to steamroll over them as easy. Fans behind that goal are class though.

It's a shame the gap between English and Scottish football is so huge these days. Growing up in the 70s it was only marginal to England. But with the huge money the EPL can throw around, even more established European powerhouses like Spain, Italy, France and Germany struggle to compete. Scottish football, just no chance. We saw that last season when Liverpool put seven past Rangers. Villa simply confirmed the unequal struggle.
Ollie Watkins is a english man from the lower leagues and he scored 3 goals that night.

fair play for posting this...I'm English...I always watch you mate ...you do a great job presenting this blog... you capture the passion of football in Scotland which is second to none...respect...football nowadays is all about money...sadly...the top English Premiership clubs can spend stupid money on players and managers...it's crazy and I don't like it...the SPL obviously just doesn't have the cash...so a fixture like Hibs v Villa is merely a financial mismatch...it shouldn't be this way. I have Polish friends who criticize the standard of the 'Ekstraklasa' and I always tell them 'don't be so critical...there's no money in your league'...I watch my local team in the 7th tier and I'm a fair-weathered fan of my local professional club in English League One...their ticket prices are too expensive in my book...Keep up the good work mate

Back in 2000 I was on some training course in London and shared a flat with a big Hibs fan for a month. Always look out for their scores. As a Villa fan I wanna say class turnout and singing by the Hibees. All the best for the season.

Ironically, Aston Villa had the greatest success because of a Scotsman, George Ramsay, the first professional 'super-manager' in footballing history. In his day, as revered as either Matt Busby or Alex Ferguson. They won six league titles and six FA Cups, under his direction. He was born in Glasgow, is buried in Handsworth and deserves better recognition outside Villa Park than he receives ordinarily. Curiously, Villa's arch rivals, aka Small Heath Alliance, have a similarly profound Scottish influence, their ground is St. Andrews, the team anthem "Keep Right on to the End of the Road" by Harry Lauder. English football used to be profoundly influenced by Scottish players and managers and it's very saddening to see the decline and differences develop over the recent 30 - 40 years. Don't blame the English. Blame the international media and TV companies. Splendid display by the Hibees fans. Top support.

Had a Scottish captain in Archie Hunter at that time as well plus the founder of football league in William McGregor was their chairman. Aston Villa still have a Scottish club badge also, their colours are allegedly a mix of Rangers and Hearts.

To be honest I’m not sure what’s happened to Scottish football in the last 20 years .
I’m a Spurs fan and everyone of our teams had at least one or two top quality Scots in them . In fact every team in the top division had at least one Scot but now there is virtually none .
Weird post. Whatever you think about the club football there are plenty of good Scottish players just now.

There was once a steady stream of talented Scottish players down to the top clubs in England but that hasn't been the case for many years given the higher quality of other foreign players. I'm a Spurs fan too and I'm old enough to remember two Scottish greats , Dave Mackay and Alan Gilzean in our team. Spurs legends, both.
@@peterlangbridge4628 Yeah but you said it yourself, there are a lot of foreign players in England that didn't used to be there. It's comparing apples and oranges but that doesn't mean there aren't good Scottish players (unless how many play in England is the only measurement there is, and even then there are still 19 Scots in the EPL). There also wasn't Scottish players moving to Serie A like lots of them do now back in those days, do they not count as good players because it's not England?
If you made this point a few years ago I'd agree, but it's odd to use Villa pumping Hibs as a reason for why there aren't good Scottish players when the quality is the highest it's been in decades, as evidenced by Scotland's results these days.
Fair play to the fans who start around after being 50 but they in a big difference between English football and Scottish football when it comes down to it

Personally I think a lot is made of the disparity. Stevenage beat us in the cup last year at Villa Park. I thought Hibs were too much in awe and never gave it a go through fear.

I’m a Villa fan for 45 years and still travelling to Villa Park, living in Kilsyth for 23 years so know all about Scottish football and they are very passionate about their football. Villa just to much quality to be honest for Hibs its a bigger gap than many Scottish fans think between the Premier League and the SPL but can’t take it away from the Hibs fans still singing at 5 - 0 drop 👏👏👌
The Hibs fans and the intensity of the players got to us at the start. Maybe 12 months ago Hibs win that. Unfortunately it’s the spending power of the premiership now. I’ll keep an eye out for Hibs over the season.

Great ground. Great atmosphere. Proper supporters, singing til the end and very respectful of the opposing side. Sad that the SFA doesn't recognize that a 2-horse league hurts the other 10 clubs. Don't know what the answer is but surely it's not to persist with Celtic and Rangers 1 and 2 each season and walking into Europe and gaining even more money. Rich get richer scenario needs to end. The wage disparities are absurd. The stadium capacity disparities are absurd. Celtic able to put 10x more fans in seats than St. Mirren and Ross County? Outrageous.
I almost felt sorry for Hibs watching this. Men v boys.
Watching this retrospectively. Most we can do in Scottish league is enjoy the super star teams in England if drawn against them.

As a villa fan I feel this shouldn’t really be a game, completely miss matched, obviously hibs are gonna have loads of hype at their own ground going against a good prem team, it’s very rare they get to play a team of that quality, can’t wait for the second leg, you’ll see England can chant just as much if not more so but it was still a fun game

Think you're well off with some of your comments here especially aimed at villa in particular, I may understand it with other clubs like Arsenal Man City Man United etc but villa having no passion etc?? Really?? A club that has one of the best support in England even when we went down we would constantly sell out and I mean we was awful especially when we went from Europe to playing Wigan! We now sell out every away and home game it's impossible for any casual villa fan to get a ticket and there is also a 20,000+ waiting list for a season ticket!! The reason why villa fans may have been slightly more quiet is because you lot know the gulf in class between England and Scotland leagues is huge your first tier most the teams wouldn't even survive league two genuinely. It's hard to get motivated when the game had nothing tense about it. Just feel you also exaggerated the noise massively on this its defo not ear piercing and on the telly I could only hear the thud of the drums and villa fans, yes one section didn't shut up but that's 200 people out of 16,000 the places wasn't bouncing. Sorry for the out of nothing big comment lol just thought if I state something I back it up with reason/ what I think.
