I didn't play those either, just remember Hicks mumbling some nonsense about why he is there in a previous episode. I didn't even tryied to remember what he said.
IIRC, they made it so that the sulaco, the ship where the survivors: ripley, hicks, bishop, & newt were in hypersleep was boarded by Wey Yu in between ALIENS and Alien3. Hicks was supposed to be captured during this time while some dude was trapped inside Hicks' cryotube when the "survivors" got jettisoned into an escape pod or sumthing. That's why there was still a male corpse in Alien3 but was too mutilated and unidentifiable just that Ripley thought it was Hicks. According to the wiki anyway, I am not touching this game ever again to reconfirm. Too bad they couldn't retcon Newt's death too which is one of the things I hated most in Alien3.
