I keep saying, it's not a matter of _if_ we get a sequel, it's a matter of _when._ It's possible that it might be some years off before we get an announcement. That said, we must fight all the harder until then! Great video as always Ido, love the edit! :D
Just today, I watched Zootopia (2016). That movie was fun and I did research about a possible sequel. But, there is no announcement!! Its estimated budget is 150 million and box office is a little bit more than 1 billion. The mills in the movie industry grind slowly, sometimes.
Approx. 2 weeks ago, I read that Power Rangers (2017 from Lionsgate) will get a reboot at Paramount! That movie was a financial disaster, but somebody in Hollywood is still willing to continue with it somehow. Knowing things like that (just one example with regard to sequels and reboots) makes me quite optimistic about Alita 2!

Nice video. It's good to see you back. The question of whether there will be an Alita sequel is puzzling in that it's very likely that Alita was profitable enough to warrant a sequel, and yet there has been no announcement by Fox or Disney. But Fox and Disney now have the profitability data and know it is profitable, so a sequel should have been announced by now.
In many ways, Alita is similar to Ready Player One. A sequel has been announced for Ready Player One and the studio is waiting for the author of the book to come out with the next volume, which will be adapted for the next movie in the Ready Player One franchise. So that is the reason for the delay with Ready Player One. But that doesn't apply to Alita, where James Cameron already has several hundred pages written for Alita: Fallen Angel.
Another movie that is similar to Alita is Tron Legacy. Tron Legacy also had a $200 million budget, and it grossed $579 million world wide, so a sequel was announced by Disney. But a few years ago that sequel was cancelled, and the reason was that Disney decided to spend money on more Star Wars movies - Solo and Rogue One - which Disney thought would be more popular and bring bigger returns. So Disney cancelled the Tron Legacy sequel because other sequels looked like they would be more profitable.
Now the site Media Times themediatimes.com/disney-conquers-but-who-else-had-a-good-year-2019/ is analyzing 2019 movies for potential sequels and saying that an Alita sequel is unlikely. Looking at their analyses for all of the movies, their analyses seem quite reasonable. Scott Mendelson of Forbes and film reviewer Grace Randolph both said they liked Alita and hoped for a sequel, but they both said they thought it was unlikely because of Alita's low U S box office. Grace Randolph said Alita appears to be a small, niche manga audience that is not big enough to warrant a sequel. Grace Randolph also said she thought Disney would tell James Cameron that they would greenlight a Disney+ series - something like 10 episodes for a total budget of $50 million.
Another article by the Hollywood Reporter talked about how Disney was very unhappy with Fox studios since their Sept 2019 financials showed a $100 million loss for the quarter, and Disney told Alan Horn to fix the studio. The article said that Fox had planned 15 movies for 2020, but Alan Horn was told to limit it to 5 films. Three of those films have been greenlit - one being a Planet of the Apes sequel. Die Hard was turned down and is being considered for a Disney+ series. The article mentioned that there are about 6 movies for the 2 remaining slots, with the main contenders being Alita, Aliens, Predator and a Simpsons sequel. So it looks like Alita has a 50/50 chance at the moment.
Disney reports Dec 2019 profits in early February, and they usually discuss upcoming movies, so Alan Horn probably has to decide about an Alita sequel sometime in the next 6 weeks. That being the case, it would help if another mass tweet was done to Fox & Disney. The December 5th mass tweet got about 30,000 tweets the first day. The goal would be to go much higher - say 50,000 tweets.

Good news also that there are some great articles highlighting Alita recently, including Scott's. I regard ALL of these are positive - Alita WAS underrated, so it's good that we got support from him. Blu rays still going strong - my local HMV have sold out of the 4k/3D/2D sets and I hear that this is happening in the US also? A Happy New Year to all Alita Fans - let's hope we hear something soon!

Doc Ido What we need in terms of home video: the movie was shot as Open Matte, cropped top and bottom slightly to make IMAX aspect ratio, and cropped yet again to make widescreen aspect ratio. The IMAX aspect ratio. In other words, in the old days of Cinemascope, widescreen showed more, but nowadays, widescreen shows less. As the IMAX aspect ratio fits into the 16:9 modern television neatly, they could very well re-release all the home media that way, I would gladly purchase everything all over again.

No but for real, Cats was fucking phenomenal. You have to kind of squint your eyes and pretend it's a stage production, but as I grew up going to see musicals and plays and that sort of thing, I absolutely loved it. Saw it twice in theatres, then downloaded it because it's not out on video yet and I just needed more.

BTW I got a chocolate orange for Christmas and of course I ate it last night while watching Alita. 🍊🍫🍊🍫I haven't counted how many times I've watched it since it came out on BluRay, but it's at least in the teens, even with all the fall shows I watch 😀
