Ασβεστης/Asvestis is Lime and has nothing to do with (the similar sounding) Asbest and it is not toxic, it was used, as paint, mainly against germs and bacteria but now days more for the looks really
It's the difference between "lime" and "quick lime", or "caustic lime". It's still lime though. Both are called asvestis in Greek. And one definitely has to use a plastic or wooden bucket to paint with this asvestis.
Is this the Asvestis they use when making Pumpkin, or Watermelon sweets with? I had some in Greece and it was Amazing and I would love to find a recipe on how top make it here in the states. Does anyone know a good recipe ? Efharisto kai na'se kala:)

Now, Greece is my country but I don't have much use for the - very popular - islands beautiful places though they are. I really feel at home when I cross the channel in Corinth; after crossing the Nestani tunnel I feel like kissing the ground 😊. Thank you for beautifully giving us - as promised in yr introduction - a glimpse of life on a mountain village in Peloponnese 👍 (yr name alone is immensely attractive - to a greek anyway)
Thank you so much for watching and for your nice comment ♥️ I’m glad you’re enjoying the content ! There is a new video that will be live shortly, hope you enjoy it 😊
We Import Kiwis from Thessaloniki to our India so i was just searching on youtube how the harvest is done and accidentally i came across this channel and now addicted to the content.
Greece is an amazing country to visit! Living here can have its problems though, as the living costs outweigh the basic income by a large margin. But it is by far a country that should be on everyone’s bucket list to visit!
@@AriadnesVillageLife Yes I love to visit! I've heard about many problems. It's a shame for the Greek citizens! I know we would have to have income sources from elsewhere to be able to live a simple life there.
Videoes says that you are a very nice and friendly person. Its really piece and cool place . If i was in istress i am always looking your vlog .it makes me fell happy.thanku so much
I watched this from Australia after stumbling across your channel, my grandparents are from Πελοπόννησο also but closer to Tripoli and Megalopoli. These calming videos make me want to go back for the simple life. Amazing videos 😊
Just stumbled across this video today for the first time. Also from Australia and parents from Peloponnese. What’s the village called? So beautiful.. makes me want to run away for simple life 🤞
Just a friendly reminder to all of you who were born outside of Greece but have Greek roots, don't neglect to learn/speak the language. It's part of your identity and deeply rooted in our intergenerational heritage.
Very nice and good attemp to capture all surroundings. But astonishing we always proud on nature but very few are thinking to follow the nature and admit that who has created all these beauties for us in nature, so, let's obey His orders and worship Him, who is Allah.
Why don't you stay in the Village, what's so important elsewhere that you choose not to go to home for good? Village life is the best and if I had the money, I would move back there in a heartbeat.
Very nice video. However, I don't even know how you got asbestos paint - it has been banned in the EU for over 15 years, for good reason. I'm sure you can find a better alternative - please do.
Confusingly, the Greek word for limestone is “asvestis”, that can easily be confused with the poisonous material known as asbestos. Don’t worry though, they may sound similar, but if you hear a Greek calling the white material asbestos, you will know that they are in fact referring to limestone. Still need precautions because you don’t want to breath dust in, but it isn’t what you think :)
It's not the same. What they refer to as "asvestis", has nothing to do with the hazardous material you think of. Asvestis is a natural material from limestone mainly and other stones, used in staining walls in Greece dating back to the Minoan civilization and the Knossos Palace. Until today many rural areas use this to stain their backyards instead of using the acrylic paint/stain etc. The reason you see all these white houses along the Aegean and the Cyclades is because the white color reflects the sunlight keeping the house temperature low during the warm summer months.

Thank you for the clarification, I realise I wasn't very clear in my explanation and some might have gotten confused 😊
@@AriadnesVillageLife if it had been the toxic asbestos, it would have been your last video for a while, just kidding, wonderful footage.

Btw, that was legless lizard (gold-female, blue - male) , not a snake. They are absolutely harmless.

Hi
Question: how good is the wifi there?
Also are you sure the cat is pregnant? Maybe it's just weirdly fat.
Are you fat-shaming the cat ?
The wifi is completely inexistant 😂
Considering the kitty, it was pregnant.

In Greece asbestos is still very much in use, but not to worry, we are taking all the necessary precautions when using it 🙂
