you should go to the kkd playoffs at the end of the season, they are always wild and the games are always heated, and the fans are just all crazy at that point, its really worth it!

Some facts about Excelsior:
They have the smallest pitch, the smallest stadium and the smallest budget in the entire league. Despite this they somehow managed to play in the top flight for seven out of the last ten seasons (including this season).
Sparta fans used to call them "hoeren" (whores) because they were a satellite club of Feyenoord for a bit, now Excelsior fans have made that nickname their own.
In 2022, they came back from 3-0 down in the playoff finals, eventually drawing the game 4-4 in extra time and beating ADO Den Haag on penalties which secured their promotion. They scored three in the last 15 minutes of the game and both teams finished the game with ten players.
They wear the crest of their neighbourhood (Kralingen) on their shirt alongside their club badge.
I was at the Excelsior Ultra stand but we did not have our best game.. beaten on and off the pitch. But yes before this one we had not lost in many years from them (a top 5 club in NL). We do our best this season to stay in the league despite having the lowest budget. Thanks for visiting our ground!!

I wouldn't rate Excelsior's stadium high (mainly because of the pitch), but the club itself I would rate quite high. Like you say, they have a small budget, so they have some underdog sentiments

Hey Josh, great video! There's carnival from Friday until Tuesday in the South of the Netherlands. Next year you should come to one of the cities that celebrate it and play at home during carnival (NAC Breda, Willem II, RKC Waalwijk, PSV Eindhoven etc). It's such a fun tradition :)

Next year you should visit RKC Waalwijk during Carnival weekend, the team even wears specially designed shirts for the occasion
I'm proud to say Excelsior is the one club that has my heart. I love good football in general so I will Feijenoord, Ajax, PSV, AZ and Twente when they play good football. But I will always support excelsior. They always have the smallest budget in the league, but manage to attract good players and have many guys from their own youth academy. Last year occasionally 5 of their own youth players would be in the starting 11.
Too bad you went to a losing game. Usually the atmosphere is more lively
I promise, that if you ever come back to Excelsior (not when they playing against some topclub like Twente, but something like RKC or heracles or vitesse) then you will have a really different expierince!
And maybe I can even get you a better seat
I've played at the Excelsior grounds a few times, quite decent facilities!

According to Wikipedia, Almere City's stadium is able to hold 4,501 people while Stadion Woudestein in Rotterdam has a capacity of 4,500. So, assuming that these numbers are correct, Excelsior would have exactly one seat less to offer and thus playing in the smallest stadium of the Eredivisie... :D
