Hallelujah is Pentatonix MOST VIEWED PTX cover with over 600 million best by far
Your observation about no lead singer is spot on. PTX does not choose music to serve the singers, rather these are musicians in service to the music. The choices are musical not egotistical.
As it SHOULD be. Thanks for noticing Nathan!
I don't think there's a PTX video that disappoints. Choose what you want to hear and you will be happy.
Thanks Catherine! I am pleased. More than I thought I would be!
Of all the songs they've released, their cover of "Happy" is the only one that i'm Meh over. That's a really good average.
@Marissa Zangwill I enjoy the original song. The PTX version just sounds sloppy to me. I'm not going to hate on anyone else who enjoys it though.
@@gregsteele806 There is one particular person whose opinion might sway you a bit -- or not. 😀 Roger May shared this video on his social media with the comment (caps his): GREAT VERSION. Enjoy.
Brian May
Please do a reaction to their cover of John Lennon's Imagine... You will DEFINITELY not be mad about it...
In fact - the longer you wait to listen to it, the madder you'll be at yourself for waiting as long as you did... 💕
LOL! I'll check into it. soon.
Agree 👍 💖
I totally agree
@@TheSpeakEasyLounge When you do, you MIGHT want to have some tissues at hand. IT gets at least a LITTLE BIT emotional for some people. That song is AMAZING and totally stands the test of time. John was a certified genius.
You really can't judge the timeline by how Mitch looks. (Mitch with the bullhorn) He does a complete makeover for every video. Long hair. Short hair. Glasses. Hats, etc.
I see. He just looked a lot younger in this than the 90's dance medley video.
Mitch and Kirstin are always changing up their looks so its always a treat to see what looks they bring ❕❗
Great reaction. So glad you were open to try it. This band is absolutely next level. No instruments aside from their voices and beat boxing in this one. Occasionally Kevin Olusola (tenor) plays the cello too and beat boxes at the same time but not often. Avi (pronounced Ah-Vee) Kaplan is the original bass profundo of the group and he also majored in Opera. He also supports Kevin with whistling, overtone and other EDM sounds. He left the band late 2017 due to personal matters and health issue with family member. He has a wonderful solo career now and is beloved. This whole band is beloved and they are musical geniuses. Scott Hoying(blond baritone), Kirstin Maldonado(mezzo soprano) and Mitch Grassi grew up together in Texas. Please react to Hallelujah as mentioned by many below. It still gives me chills and makes me tear up. They also perform it live in their Christmas Special 2016. You wont believe your ears. They won 3 Grammy awards in the earlier years when Avi was with them. Daft Punk(medley) is the first Grammy. Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy is the second and a collaboration with Dolly Pardon singing Jolene is the third. Pentatonix fans (Pentaholics) are the best and will support you on this journey. Thanks again for you reaction.
So much great material to go through! thanks Vicki!
Producer: You do know there is an iconic guitar solo in this song?
Mitch: Get me a megaphone.
LOL!
@@TheSpeakEasyLounge I got my Mom interested in the cover by telling her that I had seen a guy turn into a guitar. She asked 'WHAT?' and came running to watch. :D
They really are just a group of Friends on a Couch.
Brian May posted this himself, and simply said "Enjoy".
No better recommendation.
Agreed Liam!
They've got the Weird Al effect. More often than not the original artists are flattered they adapted their music (that's a more honest word than covered, because they have to totally rearrange songs for a capella). I know Leonard Cohen before he died praised their version of Hallelujah. Ariana Grande gushed about their acapella medley of her songs. I've heard Beyonce liked their adaptation of her songs. Meghan Trainor complimented their cover of her. That's just off the top of my head. Oh, and Dolly Parton covered one of her most famous songs WITH them and won a Grammy.
Hallelujah
Yes This is one of PTX older songs so long hair guy Avi had to leave for personal reasons he was replaced with Matt which is also great
Pentatonix original music
Love again
Sing
Thank you
Grammy awards
Daft Punk
Dance of the sugar plum fairy
Jolene with Dolly Parton
Thanks for your suggestion!
Wonderful reaction. I enjoy your comments and would love to hear more of PTX. If you want to react to a cover of a song that is not well know, try their Come Along. It's a bright and happy song with a bit of fantasy thrown in.
I actually just listened to it! I couldn't resist! LOL. I have so many to-do songs, that I need something just for myself...I really enjoyed that, Thank you!
Oh yeah they nailed it. They are just great at all their music.
Loving it so far!
Hallelujah is coming.
yes- Soon. I have a working list, so be patient with me! LOL.
MORE!!!
SOON!
Keep going down the PTX rabbit hole... you will not be disappointed 🤩
I know that I was blown away by this performance, when I first listened to it! You may want to check out their song cover of Havana, they do a really good job of it!
Oh- that sounds fun! Thanks for the suggestion Suzanne!
Havana is one of my favorites. It is awesome how they pull this off with Cuban flair!
I agree! Havana is insanely good!
I knew you would enjoy that.Cant go wrong with any choice you make of theirs. Keep going with your PTX experience....you wont ever be disappointed. Thanks and stay safe.
PLEASE react to Hallelujah.. loved your reaction.. hoping for much more Pentatonix!!
Thanks Cheryl! I have one other one from PTX coming first, I will do Hallelujah for the next PTX.
I can't think of any better honor , than having such a respectful and beautifully crafted rendition given as tribute to the Legend Freddie Mercury. Very talented bunch . such a wonderful job . I'll bet Freddie is smiling from on high and well pleased that the greatest rock- pop song ever written is being kept alive for new , younger generations to hear. However I think it only fair to mention to the younger generation , that as wonderful as Pentatonix are , the original Queen masterpiece , was accomplished with sheer raw ability..no modern over quantization, excessive auto-tune , or computer generated Midi tracks and effects....
Told u so😉 much love.
I appreciate it
Brian May liked it enough to tweet it and said enjoy!
Brian May was so impressed with this that he put a link on Queen’s page or his page to this video.
I waited with baited breath for your verdict and final remarks. You made my day. Thanks for posting! More PTX?
You bet! I'm so glad that you guys convinced me to try it! Yes, MORE!
With all their covers there are moments pure tribute to the original. Like the guitar solo. Love it!
We're heard that Goosebumps comment.
😍😍😍😍
Yep! LOL glad you tried it, PTX always has an amazing twist to make it their own. Brian May when he saw this loved it. PTX will take on Iconic songs like Imagine, Hallelujah, Perfect, etc. Thanks for doin it.
You are so welcome David- it was my pleasure!
You are a joy to watch when you react to PTX!!! I hope you create a playlist of their videos so we, Pentaholics, can come visit time and time again!!! I guarantee you will find a new home here with us!!!
Once I have enough songs, I will create a Playlist for them, that reminds me...Have you watched any of my other reactions? You should check some of them out...Or ALL of them! LOL. Here's a link, just incase! (One of my favorites is "Dimash's" "Diva Dance") Let me know what you think!

@@TheSpeakEasyLounge Thank you for your fast response!! I actually found you from another artist reaction, so good job to you!! It takes a lot of passion and time to do what you do, and it's noted!! May I suggest you check out Billie Eilish's new album "Your Power". It is powerful, and poignant! Thanks 😊🙏😊
Trust us. Any request involving PTX will make you happy! Anything they do, covers or originals, are fantastic. Never heard a bad song from them!
I am definitely picking up on that!
Loved your reaction to this classic PTX performance. Queen band members even praised them for their rendition. Mitch, the lead here, just blows it away. I sincerely hope that you will continue down the PTX journey. I've subbed just in the hope that you will!
Thank you for reacting to this. PTX is the most awesome group I have ever listened to. At first I didn't know they were a cappella when I heard Mary Did You Know. I was blown away when I learned they were. I kept saying 'no way' or 'how'? They have an unbelievable wall of sound that inspires and rounds out the whole group! Just amazing! I enjoyed this reaction and so happy you were pleased with the results! I subbed for more of PTX.
Hi Louella! Welcome to the Lounge...Have you seen my PTX reaction to 90's Dance Medley? If not, here's a link to my A-Z Playlist. Maybe check out a few of my other reactions, you might just be pleasantly surprised! Cheers, JC

Hi Jen, I just discovered you doing PTX. Yeah, FYI, the girl Kirstin, the "guitarist" Mitch and the blond guy Scott, kno each other since middle school. They had their first a capella group "The Trio" in High school, when trying for a competition "The Sing Out", they were informed, they needed at least 5 (penta) members. Searching Scott found a bass singer studying opera at the university named Avi Kaplan and they found on YT a beatboxer, who could play masterfully cello and beatboxing at the same time Kevin Osuola. Avi had to leave in, I think, 2017 because his mother was seriously ill and the stress of touring took its toll on him, so he searched for a replacement and found Matt Sallee, a wonderful charming man. The others will tell you more about those people, but they are also helping others, when they can. You and yours, please stay save and healthy. As always German greetings.
Yay, you did it! I knew you would like it. You may be disappointed with one out of 100 Pentatonix videos, but 99 of them you will like. There are videos that I like more than others, but I like them all. I'm passionate when it comes to top notch talent and Pentatonix is the real deal.
I agree. I LOVE a great act! These guys are performers, and they have honed their skills! Looking forward to more!
Your reaction to Mitch the Human Guitar .... XD. He is an amazing mimic as well as a fantastic counter-tenor. Until the 2017 departure of Avi Kaplan, who sings bass/performs vocal bass in this one, Mitch was the youngest (although close in age to Scott, the blond baritone, and Kirstin, the mezzo-soprano, who were his high school classmates: often called "The Trio" after their teenaged singing group), so the time lapse between the two videos is clear (although even before that, Mitch was changing his look constantly, as does Kirstie). Matt Sallee, the new bass, is now the youngest. He sings beautifully, but Avi was in a separate category: an operatically trained basso profundo, capable of damaging cheap audio equipment with his powerful low notes. Kevin, the tenor-singing (and sometimes cello-playing) beatboxer, is the "old man" of the group, by maybe 3 years or so.
Thanks for the info!
Hallelujah is the BEST 🔥
Thanks for reacting to it! My dad is a huge Queen fan and he had the same thoughts before listening to it. Now I catch him jamming to it on his headphones all the time lol. Can't wait to see more reactions!
LOL> I can see that happenind!
My grandson (15 yo.) is a die hard Queen fan and said he would not listen to a 'cover' of Bohemian Rhapsody. I turned PTX version on while driving him to school one morning...! Of course he said it wasn't the same, but he did admit that it was really good!
No, we’ll just flood you with PTX requests! Try say something, thank you, and gold. Also Imagine.
Thanks for the suggestions Robin!
They’ve recently released a 90’s Dance Medley video I am sure you would enjoy from these wonderful people. Also, Megaphone man, Mitch Grassi recently released a Billie Eilish cover of Your Eyes that is worth a listen, too. Enjoyed your reaction and have subscribed with the hope of hearing more Pentatonix from you❣️
I already reacted to that! Here's the link! That was my first Pentatonix reaction!

Yes Hallelujah next 🔥🔥🔥pls
Interesting side note-Brian May emailed & tweeted this video to his followers saying simply "Enjoy"
Thanks Megan!
Welcome to the Pentaholics!!
Thank's Michael!
The Grassi Guitar does not require a megaphone. It is just a prop to
draw attention to who is making the sound. I heard it done live and it was
EPIC.
Very cool Daniel!
This is the only cover Brian May really likes. He shared it on all of his social media. Much love and keep on keepin on. J. Seriously though their cover of Imagine will bring you to tears. If not well I question you as a human. 😘
LOL. Soon! Sound of Silence premieres on the 22nd! Join us for the live chat at 11:30am- premiere at 12pm EST
Ditto to TaJay's comment below....Hallelujah has about 620 Million at this point, Sounds of Silence will blow you away, and Kirstie gets turned completely loose in Amazing Grace. Enjoy !
Thanks Mel!
Before you listened to it, I kept thinking ... wait for it, you're in for a ride .... yep, Mitch is doing the 'electric guitar' with his voice. The megaphone is a prop only (if you listen to them live, he doesn't use one and sounds the same). Kevin does the drum/cymbals, etc and Avi does the bass. Mitch and Kirsty are the ones that change for every video they make. BTW, PTX released this video April 2017.
Thanks Brenda!
Glad you enjoyed this amazing cover ~~ PTX is a joy ride of phenomenal music!
Couldn't agree more Cathy!
When they repeat the guitar solo near the end among the stars it was a shout out to Brian May, who has a PhD in Astrophysics. I agree with the others. I believe you'll really enjoy their cover of John Lennon's "Imagine". Of course, also their Hallelujah and Amazing Grace. While both are "hymmish", they don't display an overly religious feel to them.
I don't have a problem with hymns. I love all kinds of music! Thanks so much for the comment and suggestions!
Brian actually did get his Doctorate? COOL! I didn't know that he was actually able to complete it! That's AWESOE! He actually is a Doc, then! That makes me really happy for him! Thank you for filling (at least me) in about that! :)
Hahaha...PTX slapped. Great reaction. Thanks
LOL_ Yes, I was...right across the face!
Brian May loved it as well
Yes- What's NOT to love, Right? Thanks for your comment!
Loving the sophisticated you! ❤
Lol.
You should definitely check out their cover of Hallelujah and react to it! You won’t regret it!
It's on my to-do list! Thanks for the suggestion!
Point of interest - Brian May (now a Doctor of Astrophysics) did a Tweet recommending it
I've also heard that the bullhorn is a prop, and that Mitch has done the guitar solo without it lol
I had heard about Brian May's "reaction", but not about the Bullhorn! Thanks for the info!
The shooting stars were a nod to Brian May.
They did add distortion to his voice for the produced version according to Kevin, but if you watch any of the live versions it doesn't sound much different without the distortion.
They add the distortion on-the-fly through the microphone during the live performances. It's apparently not a difficult process (essentially flipping a switch, but don't hold me to that) and it makes that section work. They didn't use it for a very early live performance I have heard, and the performance suffered as a result. Mitch is outstanding, but he cannot (yet) fully reproduce a distorted electric guitar played by an expert like Brian May.
Highly recommend the Pentatonix cover of Hallelujah. Pretty much anything they do is great, IMO. But personally I think Hallelujah is their very best so far.
I have a couple others, but will do this one soon. Thank you!
Just remember that PTX is pure joy! They will always do a song justice, be respectful and often, they make a song even better. I still prefer the original myself, but Man did they make it their own while still honoring the original.
I agree!
Brian May retweeted the video. Praise in deed☮️💟
Hi Dish, You're new here, I think...So glad you made it to the Lounge! I hope that you'll check out some of my other reactions, you may be surprised and find a little hidden gem like I did! There are some great Artists in my Playlist. Here's a link, just incase...Cheers, JC

Great reaction! I enjoyed seeing someone about my age reacting to different music. Having raised 3 "kids" over the years I have been exposed to a LOT of different music. I also directed the music at the Southern Baptist church I went to for 10 years. So I have a really wide range of music that I really, really like. Being open to different kinds of music has really enriched my life. I look forward to seeing more of your reaction videos.
Hi Pamela! Welcome to the Lounge! I feel EXACTLY the same way about Music. The idea that we (at our age-LOL) Can still appreciate, and fall in love even with artists and genres that we were never exposed to before, it's what makes our lives more enriched and fulfilling! Speaking of, have you listened to any of my other reactions to new (to me) artists? I have been OVERWHELMED with the blessing of great suggestions, that have made me feel emotions I haven't felt in a long time, if ever...Here's a link to my playlist, just incase you wanna trust me and take a chance! (Do yourself a favor and listen to this one first- (DIMASH-DIVA DANCE) Do you remember the movie "The 5th element" with Bruce Willis? Do you remember the Alien Opera Singer? The song she sang in the movie was produced in parts and created so that no human could sing it..DIMASH, justs said- "Hold My Beer"! He is probably the most incredible Voice, I've ever head, EVER. I love all of these artist, so give them a listen, you may just find some new favorites! Cheers, Jennifer

You got brave you’re doing it! Ya won’t regret it, I promise. Kim.
Mitch is known as Mustache Man, Hat Man, or Megaphone Man, depending on which video you saw first.
I will just call his "Cutie Pie". LOL. (and Megaphone man) Hehehe.
Howdy!! 💖💖💖💖
Hello Totah- Glad you're here!
They are a family. They accept each other's strengths and weaknesses. They agreed years ago, no egos.
PTX, along with Home Free and Voiceplay, will lead you down the rabbit hole of A Cappella for this century. There is overlap among all 3 and though we have our favorites, most of us enjoy all 3 groups and the respective solo songs of most of them. For a great dive into PTX, check out their 12 song run from the Sing Off when they were first really getting started and becoming what they are now. You will not be disappointed.
THIS VIDEO HAS BEEN UNBLOCKED- HOWEVER, I HAD TO MUTE OUT THE MUSIC! SORRY- IT'S THE ONLY WAY IT WOULD LET ME RUN IT.
James- I was pleasantly surprised. I am NOT doing any other covers of BR though...LOL. WE WILL SEE! :)

Thanks for the suggestion, but- NO! LOL. I just can't bring myself to do it, not just yet anyway...lol
All you need to know about this video is that the day it was released, Brian May posted it on all of his social media platforms with one simple word in the description box: "ENJOY!" What other endorsement is needed?

Keep going down the rabbit hole. The new CD is called "The Lucky Ones" every song on it is amazing and the videos are great too.
Thanks for the info!
Not to mention that you are about to fall down a rabbit hole that’s never ending (hopefully!).
When they do their covers I call "being Pentacized" they seem to improve the song. Also check out Superfruit, it's Mitch and Scott. They have a lot of original stuff and it's light hearted to laugh and feel good.
Hi Donald, thanks for the suggestion!
Mitch the guitar soloist is a counter tenor Scott the blond guy is the baritone Kirstin the girl is a mezzo soprano Kevin the beatboxer also a tenor Avi the bass the long hair guy ..Do hallelujah and amazing grace (to hair the Beatboxer ) also two great covers are sounds of silence and imagine they are awesome
Hi tajay- Thanks for the suggestions.
@@TheSpeakEasyLounge your welcome join the PTX train u won’t regret
When this came out Brian May from queen released this on his Instagram.
I have heard that...Thanks for the infoTammy!
What's funny is that in almost every reaction to this video i've seen so far... Everyone is like "i love Queen and so im quite biased" then at the end of the video their like "omg i was blown away"
It has that effect! LOL.
I liked this video, and will subscribe AFTER you have reviewed two or three more Pentatonix covers. May I suggest you review Amazing Grace, Havana, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, and, from a while ago, Daft Punk Medley, Evolution of Michael Jackson, Evolution of Music, Evolution of Rihanna, etc. etc. The Pentatonix portfolio is wide and deep, and they've some really wonderful original songs as well, at least one or two per album, and two entire albums of original material, the latest being, "The Lucky Ones," about their ten-year journey as professional musicians.
Hi Susan. I understand. That's totally your perogative. I have one other PTX reaction, "90's dance Medley" on my playlist if you haven't already seen it. But I think you have, if I'm not mistaken...I know that you came for the PTX reactions, and I get it, but...If you get a few moments, I hope you will take a chance and watch a couple of my other reactions. I think you might just be surprised and find something new and wonderful, like I did! There are no bad artists here. Some you may like more than others depending on your taste, but I love them ALL! My eyes have been opened to things I never knew existed! So, here's a link, (I would suggest Dimash- either S.O.S. or Diva Dance first- or Angelina Jordan, &th Heaven, or Bruno Mars-Leave the door open to start) If you do, let me know what you thought! Cheers, Jennifer
ruclips.net/p/PLrpTUzptol0hSBtNXrU3z13sHEAlOAtRn
My favorite cover of this still from the Muppet Show.
I haven't watched that one yet either! LOL. But I think I will right now actually! (I need more that I can listen to on my own time)!
Thank you for your thoughtful reply to my suggestions and comments. I discovered Angelina Jordan last year when she first appeared on AGTalent, and when I backtracked, was absolutely blown away by her incredible musicality and talent. I loved "7th Heaven" and most of her catalogue of about 120 songs, with the possible exception of "Song for A," in which the nerves of this English teacher are just too irritated because she mispronounces certain words, over and over, which isn't surprising, since English is only her third or fourth language, but it just strips it fright out of the song. Everybody who is into Dimash seems to love him, but I'm putting him on hold for now, but thanks for the recommendations! Meanwhile, my recommendations still stand, except I agree with the folks that have said you really MUST hear the PTX interpretation of "Imagine." You want shivers and chills, it'll do it!
Thanks Susan! I am still gonna bug you to watch my Dimash Diva Dance reaction though! LOL. It KILLED ME! (in a good way)
After I heard Jeff Buckley sing Leonard Cohen's beautiful song Hallelujah, I didn't think it was possible for anyone else's interpretation to get close....... Pentatonix get very close!
I['ve heard! Soon....
They haven't done anything bad yet. They ate the best a capella group out there.
🎙🎼🥰
Now, didn’t you just adore that?
I love your reactions! You NEED to do their Daft Punk medley. Has over 350M views and they won a Grammy for it.
So glad you liked it! Will check it out!
I'd put it equal to Queen's, if for nothing else because they made all the music with their own mouths and a megaphone!!
I think they are very talented, but I wouldn't compare them to Queen, lol. Everyone can bring something new to a song and they certainly did.
@@TheSpeakEasyLounge No, I would never compare anyone to Queen, only certain songs.
I'm sure you've been told but Brian May posted it and said, "ENJOY". Also there were no physical drums in there. It was all done by Kevin.
One of the hallmarks of great music is its amenity to many different interpretations. I too adore Angelina's version but these guys aren't doing the same thing. They are masters of harmony, with incredible individual voices. She is an individual voice with incredible musical skill and imagination. It ain't the same game. Another example is Angelina and Dina Ankudinova's versions of Wicked Game.
I have hear DA's version of "Wicked Game". but will have to check out AJ's! Thanks for the info!
Appreciate the reaction, "Speak Easy". Could you please add Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" from his Secret World concert? Thanks.
Well, I am only reacting to songs I don't know, and I do know this one! Thanks for the suggestion though, it's a great song! I can actually hear it in my head now, lol.
@@TheSpeakEasyLounge Thanks for the response. I'll try again.
They wanted to do this since they first organized and I imagine they worked on it for a long time before they got the confidence to release it.
That's what I heard! Like 5 years they worked on it...
They say Kevin practiced the drum set for months till he had it right.
@@CaseyinTexas He's next level. I believe he said that it took him a year to learn how to make his cello sound like a guitar?? Watch his solo video of Down.
Great reaction! I too am a big fan of Angelina Jordan, but also a big fan of Pentatonix as well. I love both versions of what they did. The one person you did not recognize is Avi, the original bass of the group, who was with the group until 2017 and was replaced by Matt. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for your insight and kind words!
Brian May supposedly said this was the best cover he had heard of this song.
I didn't get to watch you watching the video. So disappointed. What happened? Only saw your end comments. Which I was glad you loved it. At least I got to see that. Hope the next PTX video you react to is complete. Would really love to see it.
I still have the original copy that is un-edited. I might try to re-upload it. Thanks for reminding me. It got blocked initially, and they denied my copyright dispute so I figured I'd try the "mute the song" button. I've never done it since! Why not come request it during my Live stream tomorrow night (Monday's at 6pm EST)
Pentatonix was the best Acapella Band in the world, the standard that all others try to achieve. I think they lost a little of their personality when Avi (the Bass singer, the one with the beard) left the group. They are still fantastic, but the group had to change because Avi was something really special. Good reactions...thanks.
Sorry Jenifer was checking out Pentatonix reactions and came across yours....did not see any video.
I think that it got a copyright claim and got blocked, I went in to mute the song and it ruined the video! I have more PTX that is just fine though!
Greatest Shocked reaction ever❤️❤️❤️it! What! No Head Banging Songs?? Try Cult of Personality by Living Color
Great suggestion Maragret, But I know Living Color's Cult of Personality already! Have you seen my reactions to "The Warning"? I think you'll lole those! Here's a link to the 2 I've done so far...A lot of time has passed from the first one to the 3rd and they have grown a lot- If you like Rock, and haven't heard of them, you are in for quite the treat! Sure no headbanging metal? LOL!! You might want to listen to Nightwish. Sorry to get to the comments so late after this video.
I have Nightwish on my to-do list, but not into the Metal...I just can't do it! LOL.
@@TheSpeakEasyLounge I don't blame ya. Do Floor's (NW lead singer) doing folk, Broadway, Pop stuff too. NW is different from the rest.

Love your reactions. Have you heard "Havana"? By PTX

Look, there's nobody like Freddie Mercury...but there's nobody like Mitch Grassi, either.
Was it all blocked? There was no music video content.
I had to mute the music due to copyright issues. I am thinking about trying to reupload. Sorry!
