I went to the 2008 Grand Final thinking no way that Geelong can lose but so so happy that I went to see my team win the Grand Final one of my greatest days
Haha I like how you ended with Sydney winning. For anyone that isn't aware, Hawthorn went on to win the next 3 Grand Finals in a row. That loss spurred them on.
Nah, 97 had a St Kilda with little finals experience and serious pressure on them in the GF, and 98 was similar to 08: favourites having the yips in front of goal, thus defeating themselves. 2001 Brisbane, 2008 Hawthorn, 2012 Sydney, 2016 Western are the standouts for mine.
I actually picked the 2008 & 2012 results. Geelong had looked vulnerable after a sloppy preliminary final effort & Hawthorn pounced. The Swans had been on top for most of the season and lost the game at at the SCG to Hawthorn on a couple of pretty dodgy umpiring decisions. The umpires tried to help Hawthorn a fair bit on GF day as well (check the count). In 2012 that sort of poor delivery by Mitchell was always paid as 50. I have always had my suspicions about the contest with Jack where the Hawthorn player “fell over” but considering the free Hawthorn got and more importantly the Swans didn’t during the day they were owed a bit of luck , particularly in the last where in a close game the umpires usually put the whistle away. Might pay to understand how odds are quoted if you’re going to use them if Geelong are 3/1 that means they were paying $4 the win. They were paying about $1.30 which is a bit below 3/1 “ON”.
The way I see it. If you make a grand final it's 50 - 50 odds on who wins there shouldn't be an underdog. Both teams are clearly strong to make it that far.
The umpires are the best and fairest at Sydney every year. Even their home ground is a joke with their 40 metre lines and Auskick kids being able to kick goals from the centre circle :D
Don’t let the facts get in the way of a good story. The Swans are constantly on the wrong side of the free kick counter tee for a season. Hawthorn got 21 frees to 10 in 2012. They have had some umpiring at home that, had been it been delivered to Adelaide or the Eagles at home that would have caused a riot.
The Hawks got closest but when you think of it Brisbane, Hawks & Richmond could have won 4 Flags in a row. If a few things went there way. Port smashed Lions in the GF & Hawks just lost to the Swans in 2012 and Richmond were stopped by Mason Cox in the prelim 2018.
Hi can u pin me? 🎉

2008-Clarkson did such a great job-AFL rules changed immediately after.
My friend was sooo angry when hawthorn lost that grand
one of the best days of my life was the 2008 GF. hawthorn mostly always win the important ones against the cats.
Made a video on the most unlikely AFL premierships and didnt include the bulldogs 2016 run, no one seen that coming 😅
AFL gave them that one. Most rigged game in AFL history and I’m not even a swans fan
W Vid Keep The Work Up Good Job Mate, Also I Go For The Eagles, What Are Your Thoughts On Harley Reid?
Thanks. Harley Reid is great, next Dusty. Watched him against Sydney.

Mate surly the 2023 grand final was some what of a heart break
Adelaide 1997 and 1998 both worth a shout

Having to play 4 weeks in a row to a possible 2, is enough to make a difference. Sometimes it’s just one team being so far ahead of everyone else.
i hate watching the 2012 grand final as a hawks fan.

SCG is 5 meters shorter than MCG, and Sydney is -9 for free kicks this year btw
guess this guy forgot the 2016 grand final exists. Wonder how many incorrect disposals the dogs got called for when they were clearly throwing. hm...

Sup bro I’m dogs
Everyone knows about Hawthorn in 2008.
Be good to extend your reach a bit and pick some other grand finals.
yeah I'll try to include some older grand finals in the next part
2008 grand final is easily the biggest afl grand final upset in history
