    You know, Mick Strider should shift production of his knives to China, put a new logo on them, bring the price down, and continue some professional series in the US. This way he would hit 2 birds with one stone: He would make knives for the people and to the professionals. He would have the elite for 400 USD and the hobby for 30 USD. The difference would be in perception and minute quality. And no more clones. Chinese would be happy, as these introduce the wish for the elite version. Mick would be happy, because he would produce 1000X more knives.

    • @andrashavas
      @andrashavas 9 лет назад +1

      But he could say, that his knives are affordable and good. And the fakers would be no cheaper than the original....

    Dear Chinese manufacturer! Thank you for such a wonderful knife. You are very rich, because you can afford to manufacture a wonderful knife for cheap price, making many people happy. Please put logo made in China, so that I know this is better than the original! Keep up the good work!

      +Andras Havas I bought a Case bone handled 3 blade folder. It was such a piece of shit I had to send it back. They sent the same knife back in even worse shape! I returned it and bought a similar imported Buck SET (that's 2 knives) for $20. 1/3 the cost of the Made in USA junk. When I spoke to Case on the phone they didn't give a fuck. Why should I?

    • @andrashavas
      @andrashavas 8 лет назад

      Although there must be many poor companies, the copies of best knives for a bit more cash should be good. I believe the cheapest is bad in all countries. However this is just a feeling. I.e. There is the Linton Seal 9008. Aaah a strider copy shit. And in the end, it is better looking, and just as good. Maybe the edge does not hold that long, but I heard somebody made a bigger angle and its good as the best.

    The biggest way to tell besides the obvious gunner grip would be its missing the M.Strider stamp. Any Strider with a nightmare grind would be a custom done by Mick.

  • @cme8890

    Another thing is that the fake is supposed to be a custom Strider and therefore should either be stamped M. Strider or etched M. Strider (depending on era), but it is just stamped Strider.

      I had held off on getting a Strider, because they were not hard to get. Then I found out they shut it down. I finally had to break down, and pay the middle man. I was dead set on G-10 presentation side, but ended up with the aluminum gunner grip. It’s very strong, and light. The jimping matches up very nice. The grinds are perfect.
      On the tanto end though, is not super sharp, but the flat part is. It feels as if they barely missed going deep enough on the tanto tip. I can fix that easy enough, but I’m just going to leave it that way. It’ll do the job as intended.

    This video was made 8 years ago. The clones they have now are %100 better. They are better than even the real Strider, I know cause I owe 2 of them and I owned a real Strider 6 years ago. The handles are made from real titanium, the blade steel is S35v. The lock up on those things are solid, no play at all, and the tolerance on them are spot on, dead center. And the insane part is they are going for $65-$120, depending on the type of steel and handle you want. I know I'm gonna get a lot of hate for saying this, but I'm simply stating the facts and my observations. Am I upset that a Chinese replica that costs 6-8 times cheaper appears to be build better, with higher percision and quality, you damn right I am, but it's just the way it is. Ultimately it's up to a consumer do decide what they want to spend their money on. If you are a collector than it would be stupid to buy a fake. But if you just want a high quality knife that is solid and looks like the real deal but u intend to use it and abuse it then beating the he'll out of a $60 dollar knife makes way more seance than destroying a $600-$1000 dollar knife. That's my two cents on the topic.

  • @CDTucker336

    The price is also a big giveaway. A few years ago at my local flea market the old man who sells knifes had a benchmade presidio auto. I took a look at it thought it was cool, but 190 dollars was a little more than I wanted. to spend. I recently went back there a saw the same knife all corroded in the case. Went home and did some research, found out that the knife sells for 250, also, his knife was in a blue box and benchmade uses a black box on this model. I wonder if he knows its fake.

    I've got a KO for $30. For what it is it's a great knife. Holds a great edge and has good ergos. I use it for a edc work knife so if it breaks or gets lost no big deal. Just be sure of what your buying.

    • @brianroberts5740
      @brianroberts5740 2 года назад

      The thing is that a real STRIDER is not likely to break unless you're trying to destroy it.
      I have a SNG and have used it to split firewood into kindling. A good whack on the spine of the blade not the end of the handle, makes quick work of red oak firewood into red oak kindling.
      Yeah, I know. Who would do such a thing?I did. Stupid? Yeah, probably.
      But, the damn thing just works.
      Only drawback is trying to put on a new edge. The steel is soooo hard its really no easy task.

    Good video, I am not a knife expert but its nice to know the difference, I personally would buy the chinese clone. The quality is too close a call, but the price far outweighs the ridiculous overpricing of a genuine strider or any original U.S.A. made knife, strewth and I thought it was expensive here in rip off UK.

  • @brianroberts5740
    @brianroberts5740 2 года назад

    You mentioned blade thickness, but didn't say what the thickness should be.
    Is it 4.0 mm or more/less? Which one?
    The " female part" of the screw you were talking about is called a ' blind nut' or ' recessed blind nut '
    And the " lock face " on a STRIDER is angled and not flat. With one edge higher or lower than the other.
    The fake is flat, no angle and 90* to the inner handles. Not a " radius or linear" like you stated.
    Also, on the real Strider knife, the blade just beyond the thumb button protrudes more in the notched area than a clone which is flatter and less pronounced.
    This point is clearly evident when comparing the two side by side. The difference is probably close to 1/10 mm or so, and shoes more exposed steel in the original than the clone.

    Hey buddy. Just bought a strider on bf, it’ll be my first. Now I’m worrying it’s a fake. It’s an smf, can u help me tell if it’s real? Maybe what size Alan key is that? Maybe some measurements on the thickness of the titanium. I’d really appreciate it buddy. It’s an smf btw

    Did you try metric and inch allen keys for the pivot?

    I don't condone purchasing or supporting the manufacturers of the knock off.....but....to be able to handle a $90 clone that is 85-90% accurate in order to ensure I like the ergonomics enough to spend $500-$700 on an authentic edition is almost worth it for the piece of mind. If we look at it as a try before you buy purpose.....maybe.

    I just placed a bid on a strider with that fire logo, but it doesn't have a flying sword logo. Did Strider use to do that or is this knife a clone (i havn't bought it yet)

    The word "STRIDER" is closer to the thumbstud on the fake as well and the lettering looks bigger.

    So I could use a little help here if you have a moment. I have a long time friend who's grandfather passed away and he passed a few of his old stuff down to him and this happen to include a Strider knife. He was actually offering to sell it to me, as he has no real interest in knives and doesn't mean as much to him as some of the other things passed down to him. I was really considering and about to make the deal since he offered it to me for $250 and it's in basically mint condition. I took a look at the details you described here but there is something that seems way off to me, as I'm far from a Strider expert. It does not have the STRIDER or the "flying penis" on the blade at all, but in the finger choil is an engraved signature that reads M. Strider. Has this been done in the past and is this possibly a real Strider? As I said it was passed down and could be quite old. Neither of us know for sure. Thanks for the video man. Thumbs up.

    Lord, now I am worried that I just traded my Sebenza for a fake SMF DGG.

    Right.......and all of those costs apply here, in an order of magnitude.
    Now tell me again why some knife makers are "out of their minds with pricing."

    Stop pin diameter - Yours look slightly larger. Maybe like that to adjust your U/D blade play. Clip alignment looks different too. Do you have brick shit houses in the USA?
