Thank you for the lovely tour of your winter shrubs. I adore daphnes and have Perfume Princess and Eternal Fragrance, but sadly I failed with Daphne Bholua. I even asked the RHS for advice before planting it, who said it wouldn’t mind my chalky soil, so I think perhaps where I put it turned out to be a little too sunny in the summer and I may have tried to compensate by overwatering 😢. I’d love to try again and would welcome your thoughts as to a shadier position, whether my soil isn’t ideal, etc. They are so expensive and hard to get hold of so it’s a costly mistake to make twice.
@@GreenIslandGardensVideos Thank you for the advice. I don’t think I could provide those conditions exactly without a great deal of effort so perhaps it’s one to give up on.
@@cherylwells3782 which type of Daphne did you try? Many of them are much more fussy about the conditions than Daphne bholua Jaqueline Postil which I always recommend to people for being the easiest to grow. We have a video purely on Daphnes do do take a look at that one for more info
@@GreenIslandGardensVideos It was my Daphne Bholua ‘Jacqueline Postill ‘ which failed, whereas I have Perfume Princess and Eternal Fragrance doing well. I have seen your video on daphnes and was inspired by it, so it is a shame that I have failed with the one supposed to be least fussy, and it’s the one I really wanted too!
Thank you! 🎉

They really like a moist woodland soil rich in humus and organic matter. Chalk would not be ideal. Part shade is usually best
