  • In this video, I scratch build a home made Iron/Aluminum/Potassium Hydroxide wet cell battery. The ingredients were reclaimed cat food and "tin" vegetable cans, and the electrolyte was derived directly from nature. The battery was effective but experienced some issues. I found that table salt would increase amperage readings but reduced the sustainable voltage. I found that Oxygen (in the form of hydrogen peroxide) when added to the reaction increased the total power output.

    Very cool, somewhat reminiscent of Alessandro Volta's first battery.

    Cool stuff. I found that copper-aluminium gives good voltage. But copper-magnesium or zinc is even better. Only trouble is getting cheap copper foil/plates that's thick enough.
    You can make your electrolyte into a jelly with starch too if that helps.
