FIrst and foremost I like that you did this video in this weather. I love that you made it clear you didn't camp in that weather. Adapting to the circumstances is important. And I love that you show real irish weather. I'm not a hiker due to physical limitations, but I am a monetary supporter of my local mountain rescue. There are many people, from the cities as well as abroad that tend to terribly underestimate at least the Wicklows, but i guess same goes for all mountain ranges in Ireland. The weather is what gets you in Ireland. Videography, storytelling and composition where excellent and a joy to watch, but you keeping it real was the outstanding feature of this video for me. Have a good one!
Thanks I’m also always thinking about what option will be most safe, enjoyable and also what will let me make a worthwhile video. It was a combination of things that made me rethink the camp. The weather was a big factor, but that combined with loosing light and the potential for a risky descent in the dark carrying a lot of weight didn’t seem the best option. Yeah casual hikers can really underestimate the weather here. I’ve seen people in tee shirts and shorts looking very miserable after heading out in sunshine and getting hit by wind and rain that came from nowhere. I once went hiking with a guy who is a proper alpinist and he couldn’t get over how windy it was here at such low altitudes
I love how you make fun with your locked off "walking away" shots, where instead of just taking the shot and we don't see you come back, you hide in ferns or gesture at us like we're not keeping up! Also great turnaround time! 6th November adventure to a 10th November vid!
Sometimes I’m feeling a bit silly and can’t be bothered taking the process entirely seriously 🤪 This was actually a fairly straightforward edit as I didn’t have a script. Took about 10hours to edit.
Sorry but I've only just watched it. And what a place. Wow that is one place I wouldn't won't to work, how dangerous, it is dangerous enough just getting up there, thanks Stephen for letting us see this place and loving the new tent, take care of yourself and yours. Alan 💯⛺👍

Northern Ireland hasn't recorded any full hours of sunshine since the start of November. 😂 I appreciate you showing these places off no matter the weather though! I really enjoy going for a trudge on what others would call a miserable day, I find it full of more adventure!
@martymartin2894 Yeah, all that carbon being pumped into the atmosphere is awful. Would be great if we could continue pushing for cleaner energy sources!
Thank you for another astonishing video on incredible conditions! I just can't imagine what were the working conditions for the men at the golgen ages of the quarry... Try not to take too much risks only for filming purpposes even the results are always fantastics! Love from France
Thanks 🙂 would have been miserable up there in bad weather. Sometimes if it’s a really cold winter, the water in the quarry freezes and forms massive icicles. Turns it into a wonderland
i've been watching quite a few camping youtubers lately and came across your channel a few days ago and you've quickly become my personal favourite. The combination of great camera work, wonderful drone shots, your seemingly endless pool of interesting facts and tidbits ON TOP of showing great camping content and having a sparkling personality makes you an absolute joy to watch. I hope you can keep doing what you're doing and being a breathe of fresh air on this platform!
I live near a volcano so our rivers are filled with amazing rocks, and every summer when we go canoeing, I will collect a small bag and add them to the artificial creek at my house.
Another smasher good sir. You’re forgiven for hiding out in the van for the night. Maybe one of these days Ireland will have a spot of sun and we can get a peak of what it looks like 😉
the rocks and minerals magazine was called Treasures Of The Earth and I collected them too; you gor a gem stone and a regular rock sample with every issue and could get display cases for them. I have absolutely no idea what happened to mine but used to love reading it as a kid!
Very enjoyable. I very much appreciate the humor! Our weather on the US west coast is very similar... very unappetizing to be out, but you have to do it anyways to keep your sanity.
Winter may be dark and gloomy where you are but where I live, we get about 2m of snowfall per year and everything is frozen solid for months. Here, official campgrounds are closed until May, lots of bike paths will be unplowed and covered in snow until April, some hiking trails will close until everything is frozen then close again during thaw, etc. So I'm kind of envious that you can still somewhat go outside, and will be watching you in miserable weather from my frozen wasteland, while we both wait for spring.
Great video, the sunless gloom made it so atmospheric and the colours of the vegetation really stood out in contrast.. Those Old industrial remains are fascinating. Many thanks ,really enjoyed it.
another absolute banger of a video Stephen. I will totally admit I have walked past that offshoot path a few times and wondered what was up there. Defo going to explore it next time I am in the Bloody bridge area.
@StephenJReid Stephen - any thoughts to weigh in on the planned cable car from the Donard car park to Thomas Quarry on the Newcastle side? Seems like a massive waste of resources that could be better spent on maintaining the walking paths, access and litter no?
I still can’t decide how I fully feel about it. I don’t like to respond to things like that without fully researching all angles. Currently I can see both positives and negatives. Often with these kinds of projects it’s not as simple as having the possibility of the money being used elsewhere. Quite often the funding is only for single big projects of certain types. I’d love to see parking, trails and facilities improved around the Mournes. Ott carpark immediately comes to mind and the trail across from it. Also think Newcastle really does need some kind of outdoors hub in Donard Park. Or funding for rangers during the summer months
Your an absolute Nutter and meant in the best way possible. I have really enjoyed the videos that you have made that I have seen. a Great mix of information and fun along the way.

Hi Stephen,, a very polished and exceptionally well put together video, always informative but extremely hilarious at the same time, my partners brother has a film production company in London dealing with the likes of netflix and universal and she says that you have it Stephen, well done,,,
The rather large fragments (3 chunks) from St Patrick's cross, on display down in Downpatrick Cathedral originated from Bloody Bridge area. Bit of trivia I learned on my visit there a few weeks ago. Aye, that looks like fairly typical Mourne Mountain weather for this time of the year. I'm hoping for better conditions down Cader Idris in a few days, hunting for what remains of another wartime crash, but if the weather is anything like the conditions you have just experienced, I shall probably do a brewery tour instead. Plan B😂
Another great video Steven, have been loving your content as of late. Have you thought about a video exploring Thomas Quarry and the Proposed Mourne Gateway Project?
Yeah I’ve thought about it. Still making my mind up on what I feel about it. It’s a topic that requires a decent amount of reading and research to say anything meaningful about and I’ve already a couple of research heavy videos in the works
@@StephenJReid Its a very divisive project for sure. Certainly if you attended the public consultations you would think there is little local support for it. It would be great to get your usual in depth and honest look at the subject.

You seem to be getting good at this. 😁
😁 thanks
Amazing what you can do with green screen. Sorry Steve another great video.
Green screen, CGI and I was a puppet the entire time 😜
There seems to be a shortage of Pancake reviews in your other VIDEOS! This is not acceptable Stephen I expect to see this rectified in future videos! All the best from the muffin man 😁
The muffin man?
@alexsmusicroom652 surely you know the muffin man? from Drury Lane? 😁
NOT MY GUMDROP BUTTONS!

I want that tent!!!😂
Just brilliant😂👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks!
I dont care what the other boys said but I think its interesting
😁
Better you than me
I feel like a youtuber that does outdoor stuff would developed a tripod walking pole by now. I've seen a selfie-stick walking pole, and one ridiculously overpriced tripod/pole.
Maybe consider getting some people on that for ya Stephen. You could be an "as seen on youtube" product guy.
Ulanzi made one. Doesn’t help me though. Their tripod is 1.5kg. My current tripod is 1kg and my poles are 400grams. It’s lighter to carry both
@@StephenJReid Fair enough 👍
It's a few years since I was there 😂 over 20 years
