Today a student and I tested the AI filter in TurnItIn. He asked his research question to ChatGPT which producecd a two page text. I uploaded this under my name to TurnItin, which rated it as 100% AI generated (which it was). He then asked ChatGPT the same question, but added that the answer should be composed in a manner to evade detection as AI generated text. I uploaded the second text and TurnItin rated it as 0% AI.
It was just 10 hours ago that I got an email by my teaching stating that I got a 0 for using AI generated text in my essay. Let me make it clear that I did not use AI tools such as ChatGPT in my writing. I literally fought like my life depended on it and somehow convinced my teacher that they were mistaken. Granted that I had very little to argue for in my defense as I had an impossible time differentiating student work from AI. I told my teacher that AI is constantly evolving and it evolves at a faster pace than detection software can keep up. It is an AI so it will always be more than one step ahead of human. In the end I made it out with a passing grade, but the trade off being damage to my mentality and enough stress to keep me awake at night.
I need some suggestions on how you convinced them cause the same thing happened to me today and I ain’t keeping quiet after getting a literal zero for my hardwork.
@@Fishwithnolegs I know you guys don't do it directly by copy paste in your writing. It looks like you do it by paraphrasing an article made with an AI generator. I have tried many ways to paraphrase an AI-generated article to make it look like it was human-made, but all failed. I tried it manually with my own hands, I also tried quilbot and various other paraphrasers, all efforts were in vain. the conclusion is that the writing that AI made left history. the history is imported directly into turnitin. Obviously, whatever you do to trick Turnitin, somehow, it's still a failure. you're better looking for human-made articles to paraphrase or looking for schools or campuses in developing countries that don't use technology to check your work if you're desperate for AI.

I personally think that this feature should not be available to Professors. Let me explain, we're talking of something that MIGHT understand if an essay is AI written; this could lead to serious troubles when it detects a human written text for an AI one.

The further you prompt in a thread on a GPT you will find it becomes complicated, I'd say as far as prompting goes it is crucial that you spend a lot of time and be detailed, very specific and concise in setting up the prompt, if you know what you are doing and know your content it is possible for AI to greatly assist in structuring writing and arguments, that being said, hallucinations are frequent and again how elaborate and complex the prompt is can avoid much of this. Review the writing and have it make sense to you and sound to the likes of how you would logically reason, GPT makes extremely waterred down arguments and critical discussions, it will be the prompter's responsibility to constantly re-evaluate and re prompt sections to be stronger, the stronger GPT reasons the more likely it is to hallucinate. This sounds like a lot of work, back and forth etc, and it is EXACTLY that, but criticising GPT's arguments have made me a better writer, re-writing and understanding the approach to prompting AI is incredibly valuable, we are at a turning point and very well so, GPT and other AI saved the search engine from that which it could not do, we already use, spellchecker, URL shortners, google, search functions, calculators etc, AI is just another tool and moving forward we really need to be able to wield it effectively, it is a danger in the hands of the lazy. My greatest disappointment in AI is that it isn't hardly comprehensive enough or smart enough but learning to prompt well will have you constructing AI written work in your own unique sense, this will be the future, deal with it, learn it, own it.
What happen if I ask ChatGPT to review and correct my grammar. Turnitin would consider the text as AI generated? Even if in first instance I wrote the text?
And then I get failed for using technology to check my grammar. This is just sad. One hand they say we should learn to use technology now they fail us when we do. I am not says we should use it to cheat but if turnitin can not tell you if the person used it to just better his grammar or phrase his words better, should it then be a base to fail one
Turnitin even states on their website that it's not used to 100% detect plagiarism. It's mainly to help coach students on the use of paraphrasing, making sure that you are properly citing your work correctly and not stealing it from somewhere without giving it credit. But, you see, instructors are not really taking the time to read the fine print or make a conscious effort to fully understand the software. Instead, they just penalize you and give you a low grade. I even stated to the one instructor, and she didn't want to hear it. I actually told her she is insufferable and, in a polite way, a pain in the ass. It's a real "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. Because these schools want you to write like a college student. But, even if your assignment is written perfectly, as it should be, you get penalized.
what if i have written someething and i ask chat gpt to improve the english . And i then copy and use the better english generated response of Chatgpt as it is . Will it detect it as AI generated too ?
I gotta admit to Turnitin, they do a great job detecting plagiarism. And there are plenty of other more popular plagiarism checkers out there. Yet, schools did a good job picking it. Nevertheless, Turnitin is a cancer to cheaters & the academic world lol
I've been quite successful 'benchmarking' other peoples work throughout school. I get their paper and essentially rephrase and rewrite it in my own style. I reuse only a few of their direct quotes in my work. I have beat Tii every time.
@@jennellyork7990 principally, Services like course hero are probably the best repository for work. As soon as I get any assignment, I go there immediately to see what’s up. It helps to see what everybody else is doing on their assignments. If I like what I see, I grab it, and then use it as an outline to write things my own way. Works like a charm.

Rasanya gw baru januari kemarin pakai chatgpt, dan itupun belum byk yg tau, lah tiba2 rame aja yg pakai wkwk.

It looks like TurnItIn is using flow/intent/tone analysis. When the tone changes to human, it thinks that the adjacent text is also human. The sections in your interleaved test that were AI written, but not detected, were all adjacent to human text. So it would seem that writing every fourth sentence by human is enough to fool TII.
I used Chat GPt to translate my original content into English. Then used it to rewrite the translation in professional language. Will Turnitin see this as plagiarism?

My submissions for some assignments are mixed ai and my actual writing so it was probably enough to fool turnitin. Honestly I wouldn’t want to risk putting stuff that is purely ai
On their website theyv'e stated that the AI feature is only visible for admins and whoever is marking your work (given that the admin has turned it on for them), so only an admin can turn it on for you
its better not to, because if you use turn it in, your work gets saved into the database and once the teacher checks for plagiarism, it'll come off as 100% detected. so do not check for plagiarism from turnitin
@@TDG_98 usually companies do not provide free services but if you stumble across free plagiarism checker, chances are they sold their database to turnitin, and thats how they make money. so its better not to use plagiarism checker as a whole

Asking him to let you rewrite is like admitting you did use AI, you should've fought that you didn't use AI instead.
