    Great Video Alfonso, I can't imagine spending my entire life paying into the pension to finally retire and suddenly having no pension to fall back on. Truly a scary situation.

      Pensions are a scam, they’re always worth significantly less than they give out. Your goal if you’re watching this video should be to become rich enough that you never neeed one

    Love the new 15min videos format! Concise yet with perfect amount of detail. I never get to the hour+ videos because there's 10-15 of them per day in my subscription notifs, so the shorter video notifications always get watched first. Emails tend to get lost in a busy inbox so this is perfect to watch while doing the chores ;)

    I don't understand why pension fund's liabilities need to be hedged against interest rate changes. Do those funds guarantee a fixed return to their clients ? Thanks for the good content :)

  • @MissMyRyan
    @MissMyRyan 2 года назад

    Alf - if they’re using swaps to provide cash flow for future pension liabilities, wouldn’t the notional of the swaps need to dwarf the pension liabilities? The former pay fixed interest, but the latter have, in effect, a principal and interest component. Ex: pension liability of $100, requires notional swap of 100//fixed rate. Thank you 🙏🏽

    Amazing video, A friend of mine referred me to a financial adviser sometime ago and we got talking about investment and money. I started investing with $120k and in the first 2 months , my portfolio was reading $274,800. Crazy right!, I decided to reinvest my profit and gets more interesting. For over a year we have been working together making consistent profit just bought my second home 2 weeks ago and care for my family.

      @rachealhubert74 Quitting may not be the best approach if you ask me. This is where an AI comes into the picture. I barely have time to trade myself as my job swallows up most of my time. Bridget Mary Turow, a licensed fiduciary whom has made me over 5 figures in profit in less than seven months, handles my investments. I could leave you a lead if you need help.

    What is scary to me is when the pension funds, 401k's, the bond market blow up, that it is possible for the government to take money from those with no pension, in order to make whole the pensions that are due to the government worker? Via taxes? Would this mean the government is going to look after itself first (government pensions), and screw the public that have no pensions? To keep these funds viable is the reason for QE, which goes into the stock market and boosts the stock of those companies the Pension funds are invested in. Don't want the 401k to go bust under my watch so we'll kick the can down the road a little further. CALPERS is 611 Billion under, Illinois 342 Billion under with their pension funds. Not good. No way out. Too much debt that cannot be paid back.

    how stupid must you be to go long govt bonds with a derivative overlay on our bond portfolio with deeply negative rates is beyond me. Guess you have to be a consultant to cook this up. Furthermore margin calls are not issued in time because of the OTC nature of this overlay but that is not so smart either

    Why did BOE intervene through open market operations and not work with pension funds directly through a private bank intermediary?
    Also is it certain that this was a liquidity crisis and not a solvency crisis given that most of the pension fund assets are in bonds, likely leveraged for better returns?

    The wisest thing that be on everyone’s mind currently is investing in different streams of income that doesn’t depend on the govt. especially with the current economic crisis around the world. This is still a good time to invest in Gold, silver and digital currencies(BTC,ETH….)

    40 Trillion dollars that have been nothing, but something Private Equity and every hedge EVER has been able to use to be the counter balance to their bets. They win, pensions lose because the always take the other side of the SHITTY BET.

    You state this issue as its acceptable. WTF should pension funds have margin leverage? Defined benefits is a financial joke. Horrible.
