      Inside it (of course) would have been the original cards all mixed up. U can clearly see that she carefully folds the bag over them at the end. The pack of cards she presented as being re-arranged all in corect order were palmed into the bag herself. Simple and basic sleight of hand.

    The five cards were selected and identified in advance, via the joke about how she had already done the trick backstage and so should already have won. In order to perform the trick after that, one might use a method of marking the cards in some way that could be detected by feel. Any such way to mark the cards would have to pass muster while Penn & Teller handled them. And so for that reason (I think) she also introduced the 'accidental' drop of cards, leading then to the charming interlude of shuffling by flinging cards around, making them even more random (as if that mattered.) In turn, this meant Penn & Teller never really felt the cards as they would normally be handled. Were I to try to duplicate this trick, I think I might take a bit of sandpaper, and roughen a small spot at the center of the back of each card. This would not have been noticed in the way that P&T were influenced into handling the cards. And yet, the roughened spot would be easy for her fingers to detect as she manipulated the cards (hidden from her sight - and ours) in the black bag. (Disclosure: I am not a magician, and my musings on how this might be done are entirely uninformed and probably dead wrong.)

    • @kennethperry6753
      @kennethperry6753 Год назад +9

      I thought the same thing, rough smooth... but that only explains how to identify the 5 cards, how was she able to identify all of the other cards that were not faced the same way and face the entire deck expect for the 5 "marked" cards. It seems to me that the 5 cards must be marked in a way that she can feel them and P&T didn't and also the other 47 cards have to be marked as well so that she can feel them and P&T didn't and the marks must be so different that she is able to distinguish them. That, I believe is why she fooled them.

    • @quickfrog57
      @quickfrog57 Год назад +18

      @@kennethperry6753 Not necessarily, just thinking about it now. It could be that the back of the 5 cards she needed to identify were rough, and the fronts of the other cards were roughed. That way, she just had to put the cards all the same direction based on the roughed sections, and the 5 cards would be going the "other" direction based on the card art. She didn't need to put them in a particular spot in the deck, so she didn't need to identify the 5 cards without sight, it was just all about orientation.
      I think that's the way this could have worked, but doing it as quickly as she did is the real trick.
