One thing the anime didn't emphasize enough:
To Roxy, Rudy's family was the actual first family where she considered home.
She never felt home with her real parents due to her incapable of telepathy, so she really wasn't too close to them.
In a way she genuinely considered Paul and Zenith as her second family.

@@zLeSshuhn They didn't reemphasize the fact that Roxy doesn't have telepathy, which is a thing that was only brought up in Season 1, and this is important in this context as it gives another layer to her relationship with Rudy's family. If you still remember this that's good. But if you forget this point, most likely will just think like Rudy thinking Roxy was just trying to relate to his feelings when she couldn't.

They cut so much you have to either read the LN or watch a cut content video for this, i suggest otaku spirit he goes in depth on what was skipped and i can tell you it's going to be a long episode, for one rudy had been in there for a week not eating so he was in no condition to travel and they needed to find a way to cheer him up, that's when geese said Elinalise could go bang him that usually works, Roxy heard this and got the idea to give it a shot. And Roxy did sit next to him and talk but he was the one that pulled her into his lap and started it.

@Kev376 the anime did fine with the time it was given. Sure, some things had to be cut, but the meeting about Rudy's mental state and his starvation were both shown in one way or another, with the former being mentioned by Roxy during her confession and for the later you'd just have to look at Rudy's face.
I get being disappointed with how some things were adapted, but at the end of the day, it could always have been worse.

They sure cut a lot... I think it was important to mention that Rudeus hadn't been eating for over a week (only drinking water). The others were fearing he might die if something didn't change. The one to actually bring up the booze and s3x idea was Geeze (after looking at Elinalise), but since she didn't want to do it they were just going to give up and wait.
They also stopped at Bazaar for a bit and Elinalise takes the women to drink. Roxy got drunk and told everything to Elinalise, then returned to camp and entered Rudeus tent and weakly beat on his chest.
Also Rudeus resisted much more (both about admitting he loved Roxy and about taking her as a 2nd wife). For the latter Elinalise had to lie to him (she hinted Roxy might be pregnant, that got him).

They arent trying to justify or validate her action, which i really like. The last part is what i am really grateful that they changed it, manipulating rudy by lying to him that roxy is pregnant.... I dont really like the sound of that, i would dislike elinalise because of that... I mean I was sure this episode would cause quite the ruckus.
But more like from anime only viewers about the current developments, instead most I see are discussions about dialogue changes. Did not expect that! lol.
Well but it's not like the criticisms I see here are technically wrong.
This story means a lot to a lot of people, to me too of course, so everyone is super locked in and scrutinizing every detail whether the studio is doing a good job. So I feel like there might be an emotional reaction right now that is making it seem worse then it actually is.
These are some comments from the author after the episode aired:
"Stories like last week's, while shocking, are so common that they make me feel at ease, but stories like this make me sick to my stomach because I know that there are more than a certain number of people who won't accept them, and I wonder how to make more people accept them..."
"I am so grateful and sorry to those who participated in the script conference, because I think I was a difficult writer to get my ego through, which the original author should not have been thinking about how to make it more acceptable to more people."
It makes it kind of seem like he was actually the one who pushed for at least some of these changes.

Well, if the author had a hand in it, then I’m a bit more okay with it. It is good to see an author both involved in the adaptation process AND aware of how the different medium would require some concessions. It helps ensure that any changes for the sake of screentime are still in the spirit of the original.
Funny how the author himself can be more open to that than the fans sometimes.

Pay attention to the small comments in the show. They are almost always more fleshed out than what the anime shows. Like when Roxy mentioned to Rudeus that she knew he was married before she slept with him. This was because Elinalese essentially had Roxy sleep with him as a means to cure his depression. Rudeus had it bad and the show really flies through it. He didn’t eat for a week and was ready to give up on it all. Without Sylphy there Roxy was the only one that could help him. So many anime only fans freaked out when they weren’t getting full context and that’s annoying to us that read the novels.

Rudy and Roxy need to own all of this. The LN having the "team" formulate a plan to get Roxy in bed with him, gaslighting her essentially takes away her agency. In the anime, she WANTS him, so she took him. And then in the LN, Elinalise gaslighting Rudy with pregnancy lies, takes away Rudy's agency. In the anime, he loves her, wants Roxy to be his, and admits to being scum. The LN reasoning was nonsense. Roxy and Rudy are equal scumbags here. The anime did this right.

    • @tactlessnutter
      @tactlessnutter 2 месяца назад +4

They do not “formulate a plan to get Roxy with him”. They discuss the possibility of Elinalise doing it, but conclude that Rudeus is strong enough to recover by himself, to which Roxy disagreed. Seems like some people misremember this part. I agree with the pregnancy thing though.

(The LN having the "team" formulate a plan to get Roxy in bed with him) this did not happen, read the whole conversation again, there was no point where it was suggested that Roxy does it, Elinalise even told geese to just bring Rudeus to a brothel.
" Elinalise gaslighting Rudy with pregnancy lies" yeah I hated that, I mean, it was a good moment for Elinalise as a manipulator, but it stops Rudeus from doing the right thing without lies.

    • @RajioOn
      @RajioOn 2 месяца назад

The first part is absolutely false and just insane misinformation...
And in the LN rudues also said he genuine loves her and wants her, but he hesitated until elinalise assured him, It wasn't just because of elinalise's lie.
But the pregnancy thing I do agree it was a bit weird/forced, but not nonsense
Elinalise was just extremely worried about roxy, because if rudeus leaves her like that she's scared roxy will live a miserable life.
Her reasoning was because she knows someone like that (LN readers knows who).
But even then rudeus denied and said sylphie is his only wife, which is why elinalise told him that lie. (but changing/removing this part is indeed not a bad thing though)
Anyway, in the LN he also admits that he was being extremely selfish and garbage, so I don't know why you made it sound like the anime addded that part

A LOT got cut, and changes were made. Rudeus had barely been eating for 1-2 weeks, which is why he looks like shit. Geese had gotten people together to go back into the labyrinth and loot whatever they could from the guardian (hydra) room and the hydra's scales, and that took at least a week by itself.
The cheating bit was also pretty different - Geese, Talhand, Elinalise, and Roxy were discussing how they were going to deal with Rudeus, and that's were Roxy finds out about Rudeus being married. She then goes into the room Rudeus is in, and they made her way more assertive in the anime. He actually ends up on top, and Roxy starts her whole "we can do it" dialogue, and Rudeus eventually caves. When they wake up, he basically says to himself that he fucked up big time by cheating and was also too rough with Roxy.
Also they cut the part where Elinalise pushes Rudeus harder into keeping Roxy by telling him that Roxy didn't have her "monthly visitor" (it takes a month to get to Bazaar from Rapan, and a week to get from Bazaar to the teleportation circle). Since it was cut, you should be able to tell that she was lying, since if it was that important, it would've been included. Some action stuff and small bits of dialogue were cut from the return trip, but that was kind of expected.

I actually kinda like how Roxy decided to do it knowing full well how she is in the wrong. It gives more impact when later she admitted by herself, and realized how wrong it is to take advantage of him. And when she declined Rudy's offer to be lovers for just the duration of the trip, it shows how more mature Roxy is compared to Rudy.

Also, it skips the part after the sex where Rudeus somewhat talks to Roxy about his past life, but tells her it's a "hypothetical" or a "dream" and talks more about the regret of not going to his parents' funeral. That of all things really should've been kept in.

"Rudeus had barely been eating for 1-2 weeks, which is why he looks like shit." This was implied by his appearance. I haven't read the novel and I immediately knew it.
"Geese had gotten people together to go back into the labyrinth and loot whatever they could from the guardian (hydra) room and the hydra's scales, and that took at least a week by itself." This is useless to the main plot, glad it was cut. This is just extra content that you should read from the novel.
"The cheating bit was also pretty different - Geese, Talhand, Elinalise, and Roxy were discussing how they were going to deal with Rudeus, and that's were Roxy finds out about Rudeus being married. She then goes into the room Rudeus is in, and they made her way more assertive in the anime. When they wake up, he basically says to himself that he fucked up big time by cheating and was also too rough with Roxy."
This could've been done like in the novel but it didn't make much difference.
Generally this anime hasn't cut much of the source and it has been pretty faithful. The entire point is to be faithful to the source allwhile creating a good show, not to follow every single bit and bop from the novel/book.

Honestly, the most mature tackling of polygamy/harem tropes that I've seen in an anime. Not playing it for laughs or as a self-insert fantasy, but actually tackling consent, permission, and communication in a way that other media nowadays just don't do. This anime already showed its cards about how it plays around medieval forms of morality. Honestly, the idea of a single wife is fairly recent if you compare the last hundreds of years to the last thousands so in that sense it's understandable that it didn't feel weird to anyone in the group and that people even shipped roxy and rudy in the party.

The episode took an axe to many of the things in the book, but the main thing is that it wasn't just the sex that got Rudeus back on his feet, but the conversation he had with Roxy afterward. He told her a (completely fictional) tale of a miserable man who'd been given a second chance and now had blown it, and asked her what that man is supposed to do. I remember there was a bit more of a build up in the novel up until the point where roxy did what she did to rudeus. I don't really care if they cut some content on the anime from the novel as long as it's trivial, but in this episode I really felt the impact of having a lot of context being cut out from the original. This time I really felt the big difference between the two. In the novel you they really made me feel that sort of desperation of Roxy to help Rudeus in his time of despair, there was a lot of contemplation on her part and she really did thought a lot about it, it's not like she just rush to rudy's room just because she was horny. Also it's totally not her idea in the first place but she was desperate and she was asking for advice on how to cheer him up lol. Also I remember in the Light Novel, during that scene in the anime (iirc), Elinalise told Rudeus that Roxy was delayed and that she is pregnant, that's why Rudy decided to ask Roxy to marry him, so basically my boy was scammed into a shotgun marriage proposal LOL

    - Rush was depressed, they didn't even mention that Rudeus spent weeks depressed without eating.
    - They skipped the whole interaction between Elinalise, Geese, Talhand and Roxy and how Elinalise "gave her the idea" and also how Elinalise still hesitated to let Roxy know that Rudeus was married.
    - In one fell swoop we enter "THAT MOMENT"
-When Elinalize was trying to convince Rudeus, they skipped the moment where he flatly refused to accept Roxy and she tricked him by telling him that Roxy was pregnant.

Anime only people will just see a terrible looking situation where it looks like rudeus cheats and Roxy becomes a homewrecker for relatively no reason. They will not know it's been weeks and rudeus is on the verge of death because he's lost the will to eat and live. They will not know elinalise coaxes Roxy into seducing rudeus

Damn i actually didn't like this episode very much.... Not only because of how they adapt Roxy's part, but mainly how they just brushed off the whole depression arc for Rudy.
It added a lot for his character to have him ACTUALLY be heavily impactef by Paul's death. In the anime is kind of just "oh no, I'm sad" but in the original it's like a "damn he might actually die here, it's that bad".
Also knowing how down he was, Roxy "taking advantage" of him is a lot more nuanced, as she technically had to do that to save him, but still had a problem with the morality of it.
5/10 episode for me, being generous.

How did they "brush it off"? He was literally sickly probably because of not eating for weeks and was at the same level he was when the Eris event happened to him.
If you have a little more insight you understand exactly the situation Rudy is in and the paralels to his first depression. It's just that people are highly media illiterate and light novel readers seem to not understand that not every can and will be adapted in a good adaptation.

@@captainvanisher988 yea he was, because that's exactly what happened... Even more so than with Eris actually.
But in the adaptation we didn't get none of that, it's just an "implied" thing. We get a shot of him sad at the very end of last episode, and on this it jumps straight to Roxy fixing it. No explanation, not even some time to digest that he's in this state. For anime onlys it literally looks like "oh no, my parents are gone but I got a new wife :D"
We get him more concerned with Sylphy than with the literal life changing moment that just happened the very previous episode.... While in the original we had a lot more. I mean a LOT more. We even get a whole scene of him remembering his previous life and reflecting on his personality, reflecting on his past actions and how much this affected him.
It's similar to that scene back before TP1, when he regrets making a move on Eris and the anime had to remove a lot of depth for time's sake, but that was a rare thing in season 1, and also this was a damn highlight of the entire story for the fans.
After this, I'm literally less excited for Turning Point 4, because if this is the "depth" we can expect it will fall flat.

Unacceptable, really unacceptable. The important psychological portrayal, the discussion between Gress and Elaine was lost, which is too essential for the depth of this plot. Rudy's sadness and his regret for not properly honoring his parents in this life and past lives were not expressed. Elaine's inner conflict (her love for her granddaughter and her friendship with Roxy) was also not expressed. Now it seems that Roxy is just an opportunistic third wheel, and Elaine is inexplicably sabotaging her own granddaughter, which is very different from the novel. I strongly suggest that this part must be supplemented by reading the novel.
At most, I would rate this episode 5/10.
    fking, unacceptable.

    • @captainvanisher988
      @captainvanisher988 2 месяца назад +1

Yet I am an anime only and I understood this "Rudy's sadness and his regret for not properly honoring his parents in this life and past lives" immediately, so it was expressed.
"Now it seems that Roxy is just an opportunistic third wheel" No it doesn't. Only low IQ media illiterate people would come to that conclusion. If you pay attention and understand what is going on, you know that Roxy's actions were gray, meaning they were both selfish and selfless.
"Elinalise is inexplicably sabotaging her own granddaughter" No she is not. She clearly pointed out that Rudy can love them both equally and that she is not a Milis follower herself so monogamy on the man's part is not a thing she explicitly believes.
I strongly suggest you do a rewatch and instead of reviewing it with the "novel mind", you review with how it actually looks. Because what you described here is the common low IQ take that needs to be gatekept off of our medium.

    • @user-ei8sy1jx1z

did it show the inner conflict Elinalise was having though? Greece asked Elinalise to have sex with Rudy because he thought that this 'activity' was how a man got comfort. And Elinalise did that in the past. (She was the one who told Geese that was how a man got comfort.)
However, Elinalise was not into that this time because she didn't want to betray her granddaughter and Cliff.
"After" hearing this, Roxy decided to help Rudy herself. She didn't come up with the idea to have sex with Rudy. Geese did. However, in this version Roxy became the one who immediately thought of having sex with Rudy.
After, Elinalise found out Roxy and Rudy were having sex. She thought a lot and came up with the idea that "I met Roxy first. Then, I reunited with my granddaughter. I love them both so I have to be that guy to suggest Rudy to marry Roxy." However, in this version, Elinalise ran straight to the conclusion that Rudy could fairly love Sylvie and Roxy at the same time because he was Paul's son.
Did the anime show this depth? No, it didn't. Did it show the sadness of Rudy and Roxy's selfish and selfless actions? Yes, it did.
So, it is a 5/10 because it only did half the job. Next time, before you say someone is "novel mind" how about you go check the novel and see the difference first. The anime was doing so good in the season but suddenly this come up. It is hard not feel angry about that.

@@user-ei8sy1jx1z Again you seem to not understand that NOT every part of the light novel can be adapted.
Can you give me a single show that adapted a light novel to a tea? Nope. Not even s1 of Mushoku that had far more time and budget to adapt it, adapted it to the tea. They also cut out a bunch of things for s1.
As I said, everything you're talking about here makes little difference to the overarching plot hence why it was cut.
Does this adaptation show depth? 100% it does. You're just too self absorbed to see it.
Now does it show the same depth that the light novel does? OBVIOUSLY NOT. Season 1 didn't either. If a show is based on books that are considered masterpieces 99% of the time, they will never reach the depth that the book is reaching. Because they are inherently different mediums.

It is the depth of their personality. The anime just changed it, especially Elinalise. You can still see Roxy was trying to help Rudy but not only being a third wheel. However, in the anime, Elinalise become a person who sabotage her granddaughter without proper explanation.
