I’m Dominican/Puerto Rican. My hair was always called bad hair growing up until I finally said no more to straight hair. Let my hair just curl. The stares and comments were wild..in NYC!!! Next year natural hair exploded. My ex-husband who is black, didn’t really care for my hair. Sad but true. Another black man wanted me to wear straight hair. Moral to my story..happy to be alone with my healthy curly hair. Thank you for this video. God is great! He loves us as we are!!
I’m a black woman with natural hair who’s married to a white man that appreciates my Afro textured hair more than I do. He wants me to where my Afro hair in public and I’m not comfortable with it, but since he like it, I wear it. If it weren’t for my (white) husband appreciating my Afro hair, I probably wouldn’t have any hair if it wasn’t for him.

wow!! You know what’s concidental about what you said Muffin, I just was talking to my husband yesterday and said that the first gray strand I see, im dying it 🤣😅. So, this was eye opening.
This may be one of the best natural hair videos that I have ever seen. My natural hair "journey" started with my hair and ended in my soul. I never really wore make-up, weaves, or wigs. My relaxed long hair was my crutch and unless it was 100% "done" all the time, I didn't even want to leave the house at times. I gave up some of the things I loved doing such as swimming, scuba diving or anything that would ruin my hair that I eventually put on some weight. CRAZY!! I know. Fast forward to the pandemic and not worrying about what I was doing with my hair. I let my relaxer grow out and then cut the remaining struggling ends off. And BOOM, I am exercising and truly my natural hair and less stressed about everything including my hair.
😭omg thank you! Wowzers! You touched on some MAJOR RELATABLE experiences i believe are so common to black women. That’s absolutely amazing what a prison we make of our hair in its alternate state. Natural hair journey never ends for me even after i became natural i was fighting my hair trying to get it to be stretched trying too hard to fight against the natural shrinkage. Thats when i realized- i just need to love my hair as is before it being altered and i have been making a consious effort everyday to tell myself my hair looks nice even when i have a bad wash and go. And the BIGGEST thing imo that changed is i started telling myself i loved my hair even in its super shrunken state
I love what you said Megan! And I don’t think many ppl point this out, I certainly missed it. But even after going natural, yes we broke away from chemicals, but the need to alter our hair texture as a way to feel beautiful is still an issue. The shrunken state is my favorite of all! Thank you for sharing!
I normally stick with a twa or a buzz cut but grew it out for 7 months. Let me tell you I LOVE MY SHRINKAGE!! Once I figure out how to do a wash and go my curls were go bouncy. I cut it off again cause I dyed it pink 😂 but I’m growing out again. No more hair dye. ❤
@Whoreallycares23 yea!!!!!! I found that happened to me too! When I finally got the wash n go right, I fell in love with shrinkage too! I’m so excited for you to grow your hair out! But I love that you explored and enjoyed your hair. What’s your regimen?
Black people always bullied me for having loose 3b curls. And that hurts me because they’re my own kind. So then I started straightening my hair but I recently just went natural again. And I get so many compliments but mainly from people who aren’t my race.
I’m sorry you went through that. It’s just a reflection of how they feel about themselves, it’s not you or the way God made you. And some ppl don’t love themselves enough to appreciate the beauty in others. But I’m glad you decided to overcome those experiences and rock what God gave you. Some people will love it, and some will hate it. All that matters is you love what you are. Thanks for sharing! As an aside I find that most people who aren’t black, love our hair so much ahhahahaa! So bittersweet.

Yes, the historical context is one part of it that I feel many are stuck in. However, today, we all get to decide to value what we naturally have or not. This was beautiful.. I don't think the journey will ever end as long as we are still alive bcus there is always more to unpack discover and overcome bcus we are always evolving and so is our skin hair hormones and body. We must evolve with it or repeat past setbacks.
Thank you Aquafina! 🥰 what a beautiful comment you wrote here. You’re so right. As we age, the journey starts looking different and takes a unique turn. Wow!
Love this, thank you for sharing and being so open and vulnerable with us. Your gorgeous just the way God made you Queen❤❤❤ As for what i've learned, that the naysayers are people with their own prisons and issues that they dont even see yet.
When I decided to no longer relax my hair, no longer blow it dry and hot iron it, I was told I’d look like buckwheat. It was then that I realized that people, especially Caucasian people viewed black hair as bad, unkempt, etc. As long as it was blow dried and curled it was beautiful. That was five years ago. I rarely blow dry my hair except to have it cut and shaped. I love my kinky styled hair. I am glad I got past my fear regardless of what anyone thought. It was the best decision I have made yet concerning my hair. Oddly enuf, the person who said I’d look like buckwheat tells me that she definitely likes the kinky hair over the straight. She did apologize for the insensitive comment.
Well that’s a huge win that she came to herself and realized how mean that was! I’ve been called that as well 🙄, and I really think it’s out of ignorance. People just repeat what they’ve been conditioned to believe without really questioning its validity. I’m proud of you! I too avoid frequent use of heat due to not wanting to damage my coil pattern. I love blow drying my hair but it’s super minim. Thanks for sharing 😍💜
Coily Companions :) I enjoyed creating this video for you. I hope you feel hugged and understood. Keep it going in the comments. But before you go... ⭐What's the biggest thing you've learned about yourself from your natural hair journey that has NOTHING to do with your natural hair?
@@CoilyCode, I learned that I am not a magician and everything that happens is supposed to be as it is, my input only changes the course and the impact not the situation. If I just BE STILL relax and stop trying to control things and just let them BE, I will see that EVERYTHING will unfold as it should. Birds fly bees buzz trees grow big and strong sun shines and the rain waters, all without their help! It is as it should be. This shift in my perception has allowed me to create true peace and find happiness within all without trying.
What a profound and thoughtful message! It's truly inspiring to hear how your natural hair journey has led to such a powerful realization about life. Embracing the flow of life and finding peace in letting things be is a wisdom many seek but few find. Beautiful!
@@CoilyCode thank you so much. I truly appreciate your kindness. I believe those that cannot find it are to BUSY... Busy minding others business, trying to control the outcome of a decisions that were made millennia b4 the issue was manifested. As my mom used to say and I now say to my son... you're doing to much, lol 🤣 just wasting energy and time ....just be still and let the answer solution resolution unfold...
Thank God for leading you to create this video and thank you for sharing. I share some of the same experiences as you. I hid behind makeup and nails and clothes and shoes and partying and I never wore wigs but I had weaves and locs and even though locs are "a natural hairstyle" I realized I even hid behind those so I wouldn't have to "deal" with my natural hair. Once I took my locs out I hid behind braids because I again didn't know how to "deal" with my natural hair and was trying to make it look like something it wasn't and was mad it wouldn't grow. One day I was going to grab some hair to do braids and heard the Holy Spirit say "no more fake hair". So from that moment I stopped and learned my hair. I learned and accepted that the hair God gave me was like His and good as He said His creation is. I finally learned and accepted my hair instead of "dealing" with it. Eventually I started to see the true beauty in me given to me from God and not from the worldly standards. It was then that my hair started flourishing and now I LOVE what I see in the mirror. To God be the glory!! Love you Sister in Jesus Christ and thank you sharing.
WOOOW!!! 😭😭😭😭😭 what a beautiful testimony!!!! That’s crazy, I wouldn’t have looked at “locs” as something to hide behind but you’re right! It’s not how your hair grows out of your scalp. Wow this was POWERFUL!!!! And I know it’s true because girl, your profile picture is eating! The face card, the hair card, you’re exuding that!’ Praise God and I’m so glad you found comfort in the video 🥹🥰 that makes me so happy. He’s setting many of us free! Amen!
Lori, you and I are one and the same except I would relax my hair and regret it after too. Trust me, I understand. But it has something to do with our mindset (or belief system). I did a video about this some time ago (ruclips.net/video/tiQsrCDeo20/видео.htmlsi=uNd7u8bh9GWFjYzo), it may give you some insight or help you narrow down what exactly it could be. Also, it may be none of those mindsets but a stress response. Possibly. However, it’s not uncommon what you’re experiencing. And there is a solution. Thank you for sharing! You’re in great company my dear 💕
Dont be sad hair are always growing newly there. In my country we dont even need have beautiful hair because people must wear hat because here are so horrible cold climate.
I don’t think it’s that deep to be honest. I think u r just used to using a relaxer in your hair and so to deal with your natural hair is much difficult because it’s a different texture but it’s only difficult at the start once the hair starts to get longer you will find that you don’t really need to do anything to it just wash it Condition it then leave it. On the other hand make up… well this is something that I always say you should never really get into because once you start false advertising it’s difficult to peel back. It’s better. You just let your natural beauty shine and if you wanna wear some lipstick fine it alters your look a little bit you take it off. It’s not too much of a change. By the way your hair is growing wonderfully ❤.
Natural beauty is always the way to go and how we all get to that level of comfort with ourselves is a personal journey with different levels of inner work. Thank you for sharing! And yes, the wisdom for growing our hair has definitely helped! Thank you 😍💕
Not that deep to you but may be to others and if you see, most of the video footage are very old videos because if you look at the last several videos, they are exactly her letting her natural hair shine and she has been wearing some makeup but it’s no longer a crutch. But maybe this is your first time being here. Never assume it’s not that deep. You don’t know peoples struggles and I think 60-80% if natural hair girls related to the video and were encouraged by it and that’s what matters.
Don't marvel if the world hates you. You have the hair of THE KING OF KINGS on your head! Your horn is exalted by Him (psalms 89, 92). Focus on Him (Isaiah 26:3). He made you and if anyone has a problem with how you look, he/she have a problem with the King of Kings. Speak His promises and blesses over you, including your hair. God bless you. May God you 7 times the joy and blessings for every tear you have cried based on the lies you had believed and fill you with His Word, have it wriiten in your heart, so nothing less than His will for you will stand against you. Instead, it shall fall (Isaiah 54:15, 17).
Your hair is waaaaaaaaaaaay too fine for a silk press. Avoid that hairstyle like the plague, at 4.16 - or a relaxer, whatever it was. Your hair needs deep conditioning, weekly washing, any daily moisturising of your hairline
I will never straighten my hair for as long as I live. I have never enjoyed straightening my hair and I never did it on a regular basis. I did it because I had to not because I wanted to. I feel confident in my own natural hair. Hate straight hair. It looks dead to me. Particularly when its blonde. It reminds me of horse hair. It is weird and unattractive.
Hmm I don’t know if I can say never, but I have no desire to straighten my hair either. Especially cuz when it’s straight, I lose like 50% of my volume 🤣! And I think if anyone plans to go blonde, they really need to invest in a lot of high quality products to maintain the health cuz I’ve seen plenty of naturals rock blonde in healthy way. But it breaks so easily! I love that you love your natural hair and it’s a wonderful place for us to get to. Thanks for sharing 💕

Yay!! That makes me so happy because I always hope that the content is resonating at a deeper level than just hair. And I’m so glad your perception of your hair is improving. Once we see it for ourselves, there’s no holding us back from achieving our dream hair! Thank you for sharing as well 🥹💕
Your curl parrern is sooo pretty ❤
🥹awwww! Thank you so much!! 💕💕💕
Your gorgeous just the way God made you Queen❤❤❤
As for what i've learned, that the naysayers are people with their own prisons and issues that they dont even see yet.
Ooooooo that’s good!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥!
Thank you so much! What an amazing comment 👏👏👏
The power of patience, consistency, and self-discipline
@abundantlyblessed9201 Amen!!!!
I absolutely loved this ❤❤❤❤ so inspirational and your hair looks absolutely amazing ❤❤❤❤❤
Yay! Thank you FlorishingTresses 😍 I’m glad you found it inspirational. (Pretty username btw)
Amen!
@@CoilyCode ❤🤗

Fabulous video! Bravo!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you! 💕🥰
This is Nikki Anderson my mother does my hair
Hi Nikki! And how has that experience been for you? 💕
I keep sabotaging myself by shaving my hair off. I don't know why I do it. I always regret it after.
Awww!!! I cannot even imagine!!!! Do you wear head coverings at all???
@@CoilyCode I have hair and also need use hat because of that cold weather. But not matter how my hair is looking because nobody see them :D
YOU. ARE. NOT. YOUR. HAIR.
Yes!👏
😭😭😭!!!!! Bless you!
Your hair is waaaaaaaaaaaay too fine for a silk press. Avoid that hairstyle like the plague, at 4.16 - or a relaxer, whatever it was. Your hair needs deep conditioning, weekly washing, any daily moisturising of your hairline
I agree! I def don’t plan on silk pressing my hair anytime soon. Thank you for the tips. They’ve been noted 💕
I love you beautiful.
🥰🙏🏾 SpongeBob is my favorite cartoon
I hate 4b and 4c hair. Its pisses me and makes me cry every single day since 2013. I hate it!
I’m sorry. 😞
Bravo for stopping that self-sabotage and hiding your identity and natural beauty.
Thank you Neema! It wasn’t easy, but thank God for resilience!
