Mykal (Michael) is one of the founding members with Geoff, Layne and Earl in 1997 under the name "4thelove". They changed the name in 2000 to "4:2: Five" when Scott Porter joined as the beatboxer. Mykal left in 2002 for a very successful Broadway career. Scott left in 2003 for a very successful acting career. Besides "Just Sing" where everyone was in separate places, "Be Prepared" is the first time they sang together since 2002. And the first video they were in together. In the beginning when it was just the 4 of them they sang on street corners and in front of businesses. They had no beatboxer. They were in high school. Layne is a baritone. He took over beatboxing in 2003 when Scott left. He does have a beautiful voice and we always get excited and cherish when he does sing. Even if it's only a line or two. In Be Prepared Mykal is one of the Hyenas. Looking forward to you doing that one. By the way.... Geoff is working on his next video.
Thanks for your reaction! I agree with you that this is one of the best covers of this song I have heard. Yes, you should check out "Be Prepared" also featuring Mykal (pronounced like "Michael") Kilgore (Be prepared to be blown away again!). Mykal was a member of the quartet that they formed back when they were in high school called '4theLove'. They would get together and sing in the schools' boy's rest room and on street corners. They added beatboxer, Scott Porter, and changed the name of their group to '4-2-Five' and enjoyed some local success under the name '4-2-Five' in the Orlando Florida area. Scott Porter left the group to pursue an acting career in Hollywood and Mikal left to pursue a career on Broadway (both have been very successful and have pages on Wiki). Layne was their baritone singer but Geoff taught him basic beatboxing when Scott left and Layne took that and ran with it becoming their permanent beatboxer. They had different singers fill-in with the group then eventually regrouped with Tony Wakim and Eli Jacobson and changed the name of their group to 'Voice Play' around 2012 before the 'Sing Off'. Mykal was their featured guest in "Be Prepared" but that was a Geoff dominated cover and they wanted to showcase Mykal more and give him the "Mall Experience" in this cover.
😂😂😂 Your face when you heard Layne singing was so freaking good. We all love to hear him sing. Check out "true colors" or "i can't make you love me". They are completely without beatboxing, so you can see and hear Layne singing. Or maybe "can't help falling in love" which is without beatboxing, too.
Mykal (Michael) was one of the founding members and friends with the group through middle school and high school. After they graduated, they named the 4 person group 4theLove until Scott Porter became the beatboxer and with 5 members they changed the name to 4:2:Five. Both Scott Porter and Mykal going in different directions, Scott went to an acting career and Mykal went to Broadway and both have done incredibly well. You can see Mykal and Scott in VPs Just Sing highlighting all the people who have been a part of VoicePlay's videos with the exception with a couple of family kids. Mykal is also in VP's Be Prepared. Stand by Me is absolutely gorgeous and you can see the love they have. I can tell you know who he is now!!! Remember, Layne was the baritone at the beginning. Mykal knew Geoff, Layne and Eli from way back. Cesar he didn't know but he and Mykal became fast friends.
Thanks for this reaction to VoicePlay's newest release. It's so fitting that for this beautiful song that they are literally standing beside each other. Geoff mentioned somewhere recently (don't remember where) that those hand transitions were harder than they look. I had been hoping that VoicePlay would cover "Stand By Me" eventually. Mykal was the perfect collaborator for this one. A lovely song with a beautiful message about true friendship.
Layne was originally the baritone. He took over beatboxing when Scott Porter left because "baritones are easy to find/replace." Whatever the other motives were, it's a fact that Layne and Geoff are a dream bass/drums partnership.
They're very good at the "hand" ttansition thing 😄. A wonderful song for the times... like a warm, comforting hug. Thank you for the reaction! PS: Be Prepared from the Lion King was awesome!! ⚘️🕊
This was outstanding. For years Hoist the Colours was my favorite. And then earlier The Way You Make Me Feel Moved up to number one. This is my new number one. I’ve always been a sucker for what I’ve always considered streetcorner harmonies. A little bit of doo-wop, a little bit of Motown, and some soul and gospel tossed in just for fun. And this is an excellent example of all of that. I hope we get to see more of Mykal. Not just because of the outstanding vocals, but it makes me smile to know that the friendship has endured for 25 years or more. When they did Be Prepared, I loved seeing how comfortable they all were with each other. Of course he knew Geoff snd Layne from high school. I’m pretty sure he met Eli back then as well since he grew up in a neighboring town and they all competed in high school singing competitions. But the instant chemistry between he and Cesar was amazing. To me one of the more amazing things is that when they were still 4 the Love, Earl was tenor two.! Of the two tenors, Earl was the lower one! I couldn’t hear it I could not believe it until I heard Mykal (Michael) sing. I agree with the suggestion that you do true colors. He does sing in other videos from time to time, but something about the combination of that song, the way they arranged it, and Layne‘s voice really gets to me when I hear it.
They are absolutely the best, hands down!!! Be Prepared was so Geoff-centric that they promised to bring Mykal back and they didn't wait long! They wanted to show off his incredible tenor range and sound.
There's a short outtake from Be Prepared with Mykal, I think it's called Be Prepared Shenanigans. You get a quick look at the long friendship between the guys 😂
Layne has an amazing voice and a huge range like Geoff. We cherish the nuggets we get from him, Valhalla Calling, If I Were A Rich Man just to name a couple, amgry beat boxing in Drunken Sailor. But then be prepared for the Violayne.
They did a version of True Colors years ago. Layne sings quite a bit there. And yes, he’s got an absolutely beautiful voice and I wish they gave him more lines.
I'm sorry, but "millimeter of a second" is, in fact, not a thing. I heartily forgive you because this was an awesome reaction! Mykal's voice is smoooooth, and you will enjoy him on Be Prepared as well. Cheers!
i love your vibs bro !! please for the people because is your duty react "Jeteur de Pierre" "sniper" with translate on your side please dude it's important
I'm so glad you're back with VoicePlay. Please do Be Prepared!! It's incredible.

Isn’t that awesome! Brilliant! I love the way they do those hand changes. They do that on other songs. 💜💜💜
They are knocking it off the charts!!!😊😊😊❤❤❤
I've just watched your VoicePlay playlist, and I realized you missed their release of The Way You Make Me Feel in the summer. It's worth a listen!

Layne the beat boxer has a 5 octave voice. When Geoff started the piece as bass guitar I recognized son
Layne (beat boxer) has a 5 octave voice and id half owner of the studio where this was made.
