You have never lied! Just never know with my natural hair. I have to do my take down in steps. If it's in rollers, I take the rollers down, wait about 5 minutes then take down the twist, wait a couple of minutes then separate the twist, wait a couple of minutes then fluff or whatever process that I'm going to do.
I completely agree with the fact that sometimes hair just doesn't look right when you take it down. I have taken down braid-outs and twist-outs so many times, and it almost always looks like a mess (and I have densely-packed hair, so you'd think that I would at least have some volume. But no, always a mess). I find that sleeping on taken down twist-outs and braid-outs really makes it look better, and surprisingly (for me) doesn't result in excess frizz.
I enjoyed seeing in real time how you handle your hair after a takedown. I never realized how the hair, some time after, uniforms itself. It was good that you pointed that out in your video by showing a split screen of how your hair was looking before and after. Thanks for you all your awesome videos!
Your hair is just like mine. I hate my hair when I take my twist down, but after 30 minutes or so, my hair rounds out and looks uniform. You live and learn with 4C hair.
Wow! What a great video - keeping it real! I had no idea how gone your strands are. I have noticed in the morning after taking off my bonnet my hair will look crazy but by the time I leave the house it's better and I really didn't have to do much to it. Thanks for the reminder not to panic.
such great advice! My twistouts never turn out the same either! This was a great video and I'm glad you spoke about this, most naturals don't and we assume they have perfect twistouts all the time. Your hair is gorgeous and you look amazing as always, thanks so much for taking the time to share!
My hair changes with the moisture in the air. When the moisture levels are just right the fro is on point. But let the dew point be too high or low and I can forget it. Finally learned that, now I'm experimenting to see what to do during those times.
Girl you are preaching to me. I definitely just go for the knee high cos it hardly comes out the way i want to. I'm going to try this out. Just leave it and see if it takes shape on its own.
Thanks Kriss, I have 4C hair and never thought about letting my hair just hang out to see what happened. I tried it today after watching you! All that I can say is Thank You! My hair is thick, but it still looked fuller after about 15 minutes. Yay!
I still absolutely love you. I've been watching you since day one. I have never been disappointed. I also love that you keep it real with the expired oil. We share our post relaxer time frame. I just big chopped in June. So I will be 4 years natural then. Congrats on your journey. I love your hair and your personality. May God continue to bless you and your family.
for so many years I have watched tons of natural hair RUclips videos, I have never met someone that has similar as my hair. wow! my hair is jst like yours, it looks fuller but when I do twist the back of my hair look jst like yours it shrinks alot and it's low porosity very fine strand
I expedite the plumping by unraveling my twist, cover with a conditioning cap, take my shower and dress, then I complete the styling. It's been working out. Thanks for this.
Great advice. My hair is super thick so if I want definition I have to make my twists small. I've learned not to fluff when I untwist because it will just frizz up, so if I just leave her alone, she'll fluff up on her own. I've also learned that I can only go a maximum of three days with my hair out or she'll start to tangle. Twist outs work better if I wear the twists for a few days (the longer the better) before I untwist.
I really appreciate this video. It's very informative and you can tell that this was dedicated to your subscribers; especially those who need the encouragement.
Thank you. I watched this video yesterday and loved it so much that I decided to do it with the curl rods last night. OMG, it turned out amazing! My fine, 4c hair loves this style.
This was the best tip I heard in long time watching natural videos. What you said makes a lot of sense, our hair basically contracts or expands depending on certain variables. Heat causes the hair to expand and become less dense while cold causes the hair to contract and become denser. Since we use products that contain humectants which attracts moisture or anti humectants which deter water absorption our hair reacts accordingly. I watched your hair as you were talking and it did contract somewhat filling out and became denser. I think you hit on something Chris. I will change my regimen up now and set my hair to the desire style and then leave it along and let it do what it needs to do based on the variables and if necessary fluff or whatever again. Thank you for an awesome video. I am sorry for being so analytical teachers sometimes over think things. Cheers!
love your explanation and break down on the twist out. They are truly trail and error for me. I have extremely coily hair that shrinks from 1/6 it's length in seconds. I literally saw your hair become nicer and nicer. Beautiful out come.
That was so cool to watch seeing your hair started all over the place and it slowly turned into a perfect afro type style all round and stuff. Your hair really does that?
Love the video, Kriss!! Patience, something I haven't quite learned with my hair. At this stage, I was ready to chop it all off and start again. Thanks for posting!
+ynomie59 Thanks!!! I would love to rock chunkier twist outs for "out styles" but my hair forms/sets very quickly where its set, so when I have fewer parts, my roots either bunch and shrink up (wet twist outs) making the twist out look skimpy on the ends... or it stretches my roots too much(dry twist outs) and I'm unable to remove the parts successfully. :/ When I do chunky twists I usually am preparing for a puff or a very fluffy fro where the way my hair lays won't matter much. I can however do slightly larger sections for braid outs... but again the fewer parts/sections I use for setting, the more fluffing and manipulation I have to do in the end and the crazier my hair turns out lol. Unfortunately, I can't even sleep in the popular "1 to 4 pineapples" for wash and gos lol. I have to do at least 10 sections (set with clips or satin scrunchies) to preserve my style and prevent tangling lol!!! #itsallgood
flat twisting my hair works the best for me! I get really nice curls and yes some frizz but I like the way it frizzes. I don't really have to fluff for volume. I only fluff to blend out harsh lines.
OK, that was amazing seeing your hair form on its own like that LOL! Gotta admit I am quick to grab the knee high! Next time I'm gonna wait and see. Thanks for sharing!
I love your style and you made me smile a lot - you have a lovely manner! New subscriber in me! I'm about to take down my own twists before heading into town after two days. Wish me luck (although I didn't put any curlers in!) Thank you!
omg this video was so helpful. I'm having the hardest time getting my twistouts and sets just right. I also get too much frizz and not enough definition. I'm a mix of 4a and 4c so its super helpful seeing how you take down your hair. I'm also looking forward to your product video on twistouts cause I'm researching different products that provide a lot of hold
for all 4cistas. Take the the time to learn about your natural texture. With all these twist outs, braid outs, and whatever else you do to manipulate your curls. I was surprised that I actually liked my natural texture without any additional manipulations. Sad it took me 5 years to figure that out.
Hey. Thanks for sharing. I had no idea your hair was fine. Mine is finer at the back too. I don't really do twist outs but loved seeing you work with your hair and loved it even more cause apparently we have similar hair! *happy*
This was SO helpful. Our hair is amazing. Just watching it plump and morph is pretty cool. My hair is very fine as well and it can be discouraging if we compare our twist out results to natural ladies with that super thick hair. and yes, the curling of the ends does wonders, and makes the style last longer, and protects the ends! win-win-win. Thanks for another great video for us fine girlz :-)
Wow, my hair is sooooo much like yours. My hair looks fuller when shrunk as well. I thought I was the only one with see through hair because it's sooo fine. Thanks for doing this video.
Hi!!! I love your videos and all the advice you give about 4C hair. I have learned a lot of things from your videos regarding to my 4C hair. I don't buy all those different products. I stick to one regimen and that works well for me. I refuse to be a product junkie Lol!! Anyway my hair is growing out healthier and I'm so glad are here(RUclips land) to help me out if there's any problems I run across. As I said once before you are my Team Natural inspiration :) I'm so glad I decided to go natural. Thanks:)
1. Yes...my hair does the same. It looks crazy when I first take it down, but I let it rest, and it seems to fall into place within the amount of time you say. 2. BTW...I started using red palm oil, even though the color scared me. I use it sparingly for my twist outs, on wet or dry hair, and I get incredible softness and smoothness with my twistouts. (I also heard that it has antibacterial properties that are good for the scalp. You may want to buy a small jar of it-- look for "sustainably harvested" versions). I have now converted from wash and goes to twistouts as my regular style because it keeps my hair detangled, smooths the ends, and holds in moisture incredibly well without being greasy. 3. I find that the 4c parts of my hair (which is about 1/2 to 3/4s of my head) do better in medium larger twists rather than small ones.
Well awesome point and video! My hair also usually just requires some time to kind of "simmer down" or "do it's own thing" so I think I will try allowing my hair to just be for a bit before styling.
First off, I love your personality! I know a lot of people swear by the Shea moisture smoothie but it just does not work for my hair. I know my hair is a type 4 because it has an s curl pattern but really curly. I cut my 4 year old locs a few months ago so I'm getting to know my loose natural hair again. I do like to use dr. Miracle leave in conditioner and talia waajid curl cream and a light oil. I love your hair and vids.
Great explanation. I can leave the house thinking my twist out was a complete fail. By the time I get in the car..I'm primping in the rear view mirror saying yaassss to my fro!!
So informative! Your hair is beautiful and you are hilarious. You should definitely think about making t-shirts for some of your hash tags (hilarious) and miss fro. I'll buy one!
great video!!!! For me, I tend to WEAR my hair in all its steps. Ill do smaller twists and put them in banto knots and rock that...then ill take down the knots and rock the curlie twist for a bit. maybe when the curls fall, I rock the straighter twist once then re-wet the twist and rock shrunken twists, then i spritz and remoisturize, braid my twists up for a night for stretch then its either a twist day or twist-out day. mine comes out better once ive allowed it to shrink before removing the twists so that i dont have to spritz my twist out...i can get the fullness without the frizz! :) every fro has a mind of its own like you said. But really, i'd love a "Ms. Fro" t-shirt!!!
My hair is like this too for the longest I thought my hair was damaged because of it being nearly see through at the ends but after looking at the strands I concluded I have combination of fine and coarse hair strands on my head.
It came out very nice!! And it seems to be growing looking from your past videos! You might want to try a tapered cut so the back doesn't look thin in the back areas!😃 awesome video update!
+Michelle Stars Thanks! Yeah I've gone back and forth with that idea for the longest. I may eventually do it but shrinkage helps me out a lot for the time being lol.
one word.....Amazing. Love how you take care of your hair. I got 4c hair too but it's always in braids coz that is just easy for me....want to try out the twist out style and maybe others but i don't think I can access good products to apply as I have been shopping for them and all contain sulphates. I live in Uganda and can easily access natural products like olive oil, aloe vera, coconut oil, shea.....please advice on how to achieve perfect twist outs using these products. Thanks
my hair said nope to twists or braid outs and yassss to wash n gos. my hair just does not like to dry out and I have a strong cottony texture that is prone to frizz and tangles. we all have to choose what works best for us :)
I know the struggle! My hair is more 4ab, but it's very fine and low density just like yours. I even have then same issue with a really fine nape that hangs longer and looks sparse. My hair looks great when shrunken, but it's tangle city! Stretched, it looks more sparse and less voluminous. My hair looks best when I have a tapered cut, just enough to make the back look a bit thicker. You should think about that as an option, but I understand that it's a bit counterproductive when you also want length. #thestruggle
+Andrea Bordeaux Thanks!! Yes, I've definitely thought about cutting the back shorter many times during my journey and have gotten scissor happy many times already back there lol. I'm also not sure what "state" I should cut my hair in (wet hair, fully dried wash and go, twistout, in twists etc.) because my shrinkage it nuts! Cutting what looks like a 1/4 on a coil from a wash and go can actually be several inches of length if I stretch the cut coil lol!!! I wear both styes so I need a cut to look right both ways lol.
Yes! It's so true. My hair shrinks to about 20% of it's length so when I trim my hair, I blow it out first for a more accurate cut. For altering shape, getting a Deva Cut could be a good option. They cut your hair in it's curly state, but they literally cut each individual curl so it's more precise. I was able to do that and give shape to my hair without losing too much length. It's actually time for me to get another deva cut, not that I think about it. Thanks for responding, btw. I love your videos so much!!
my mom is a returning natural. she said she would never rock her fro again because u could see right through that thing. now i understand what she was talking about.. i have it too. my back is alittle thin in the back but ni big deal
thanks for the humectant info..did I hear you say in a previous video that you let you hair "marinate", that's the word I've been using for how my hair works it's self out.
lol I like your videos!!!!!I use cantu naturl products and they work pretty well for me,i also mix my conditioner with olive oil mayo to deep condition my hair and it works ok for me........my hair is never the same either, lol
I love this video because I experience the same thing when my hair is totally detangled. However, I am experiencing a lot of tangles and my hair lock. And when I am not able to detangle I cut them out. What should I do to keep my hair from locking & tangled? Please help! I'm thinking about starting over with a big chop.
Obviously you're doing good stuff to your hair cause it's retaining length wonderfully but have you ever thought about doing larger twists? I too have fine hair and I only put my hair in medium to small ish twists when I know I'm not going to take them down. IE a bun.
Lol So True I Get A Good Twist Out About 5 Times A Year. Excluding Easter, My Birthday, Thanksgiving, And Christmas. Thank You Mrs. Fro #SMH She don't Ever Want To Work With Me Lol
You have never lied! Just never know with my natural hair. I have to do my take down in steps. If it's in rollers, I take the rollers down, wait about 5 minutes then take down the twist, wait a couple of minutes then separate the twist, wait a couple of minutes then fluff or whatever process that I'm going to do.

thanks for sharing, my hair never looks the same twice either!
I love the name for your hair! Miss Fro. I feel like you should have Miss Fro shirts and paraphernalia!
+Shantia Allen lol!!! That would be awesome!!
+NaturalMe4C you should! i bet a lot of people would buy it! i know i would.
Love it, love your personality as well. Will def keep supporting Ur vids. 👍👍 God bless
+Tashanda Green Thank you very much!!! :D
Wow! What a great video - keeping it real! I had no idea how gone your strands are.

"....waiting for my hair to kind of finish doing her thing, I think she's almost done.." LOL!! LOVE IT!
+Now Future lol!!
Love ur videos. I find that cornrows work better for my fine 4c hair...even helps the bangs area hang better.
I expedite the plumping by unraveling my twist, cover with a conditioning cap, take my shower and dress, then I complete the styling. It's been working out. Thanks for this.
+ISayToMyself Awesome!! I've only done the steam or heat trap refresh with shower caps prior to styling not after unraveling. Great idea! :D
Great advice. My hair is super thick so if I want definition I have to make my twists small. I've learned not to fluff when I untwist because it will just frizz up, so if I just leave her alone, she'll fluff up on her own. +Beaute' Naturelle Thank you!!!
Your hair looked fine when you took it down. Just embrace it and be happy about it; it looks great.
Thank you for such positive vibes and you look pretty!
love your explanation and break down on the twist out. They are truly trail and error for me. I have extremely coily hair that shrinks from 1/6 it's length in seconds. I literally saw your hair become nicer and nicer. Beautiful out come.
+by lyn Thank you!!!
Thank you so much for the video and suggestions. I loved the "real" deal talk through. we always see the edited versions. Love your channel
+carter394able Thank you!! I'm glad you enjoyed!!
Thank you for another wonderful video. I don't have 4c hair and I have always been jealous of that hair type. Your hair is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!
+Newly Natural Thank you!! :D
That was so cool to watch seeing your hair started all over the place and it slowly turned into a perfect afro type style all round and stuff. Your hair really does that?
I love your tutorials. I really would like to see you do flat twist out. Two strand twisting takes up a lot of time.
Love the video, Kriss!! Patience, something I haven't quite learned with my hair. At this stage, I was ready to chop it all off and start again. Thanks for posting!
+Imtelllan U (ImtelllanU) Thank you!!! Keep moving forward!! :D
I think you need to do chunker twist out and use smaller perm rods. love the video!
that's what I say....I think she does her twist too tiny...her hair is thin but there's a lot of it so chunky twist would work
+ynomie59 Thanks!!!
#itsallgood
Try to braid the roots first about 3 times down then twist the rest of it. :-)
That would keep the roots from puffing up
NaturalMe4C I fully understand now...lol my hair is thin too bit not because it is naturally....so I feel the struggle
Hey Kriss! I have fine hair in the nape area too.. Try smaller perm rods in that area to give a fuller effect. Great video! 💞
flat twisting my hair works the best for me!
Thanks for sharing!

omg this video was so helpful. I'm having the hardest time getting my twistouts and sets just right. I also get too much frizz and not enough definition. I'm a mix of 4a and 4c so its super helpful seeing how you take down your hair. +quenquen200726 Thank you!! :D
Great video! I have learned much and incorporated a lot of your hair practices in my routine. Thanks as always. Team4C! :)
+Erica Marty Thank you!!! :)
you are literally my hair twin!!!!💖

Looks like a queen
u kinda look like Beyonce! I mean u are really beautiful inwardly and outwardly ,,,,,, plus really funny. THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEOS
Love the hair. Reminds me of the 1980s when we used to roll our hair up every night.

+Deb JB Thanks!!
when you said it's magic 😂👏 #blackgirlmagic
You soooo look like Beyonce"! You have a beautiful smile and personality! Good bless You!!
Pls do a video on how you wear/style your hair from day to day this Winter. How often do you wash?
I like rolling my hair at the end of my twists as well. My best twist outs have been with using rollers. Great video, I am a new subbie.
Great video. Enjoyed the talk through!
+Ashley Crutchfield Thanks!!
Love your videos! And thank you so much for talking about doing twist outs with humectants vs natural waxes. The humidity can be a beast lol
+ajewel630 Thank you!!!
Nice!!!your hair has really grown!!!!
+Lynn Dixon Thanks Lynn!!
Nice thnx! This was very helpful!!
+CHRISTIAN LACY No problem!! :D

+Sabireen Safeerah Aww thanks!!! :D That's really awesome!!! Keep enjoying your hair! :D
This was nice...I'm not natutal yet, but I found this very interesting!!!
+Ofentse Khoza Thanks!!!
My hair is like this too for the longest I thought my hair was damaged because of it being nearly see through at the ends but after looking at the strands I concluded I have combination of fine and coarse hair strands on my head.
+Diva Wuan Yeah it can be frustrating! My hair even still grows inverted in the back smh!!!
love your vids as usual your personality is like fireworks ....you are so beautiful
+patricia bobb Aww thanks!!!
you are exactly right about letting the air get to it. my hair never looks right into it "settles" after i take it down
It came out very nice!!
+NaturalMe4C oh ok!!!!
I love your videos! In my mind lol we are good friends. Keep doing your thang girl! :)
+Chloe Arnold Hey Chloe!!! Thank you so much!!! :D
I also use the Shea moisture deep treatment as my moisturizer, just a little; the smoothie makes my hair too puffy...too much glycerine.
one word.....Amazing. Thanks
You inspire me Kris
+MORNING STAR BEAUTY SHOP Thank you!!! :)
You should try a three strand twist out or flat twist out
my hair said nope to twists or braid outs and yassss to wash n gos. my hair just does not like to dry out and I have a strong cottony texture that is prone to frizz and tangles.
we all have to choose what works best for us :)
also team widows peak, lol
+BklynBabe Wash and go's rock! :D
Yeah my hair is doing that now ....every twist out is not coming out as before when I started, I will just rock flat twist now.
Your Make Up 😍😍😍😍😍
my hair is the same way in the front and back. i just had to learn how to embrace it since its not going to change.
+NaEpOoH24 Yes! Maybe one day it will lol
great video.i am guilty of throwing it in a puff if it don't turn out right. lol
+LadyJustice lol thanks!!
Andrea Bordeaux Aww thanks and thanks for the tips!!! That really means a lot to me Andrea!!! :D
good I like
Your hair has grown so long. I love it.
i just said the same. got some hang time now
my mom is a returning natural. she said she would never rock her fro again because u could see right through that thing. now i understand what she was talking about.. i have it too. my back is alittle thin in the back but ni big deal
+OmfgMy namewontfi Yeah without shrinkage in my life I'd probably keep my hair much shorter lol.
thanks for the humectant info..did I hear you say in a previous video that you let you hair "marinate", that's the word I've been using for how my hair works it's self out.
+B Martin No problem!! :D
lol you got me laughing over here love it
+Ebby Newton lol thanks!!
Nice hair!! I gave up on twists lol, my hair drives me crazy and i got no patience for this so.. lol i need to do better
+melehiB Thanks! lol I feel you! There are definitely testy days smh!
lol I like your videos!!!!!I use cantu naturl products and they work pretty well for me,i also mix my conditioner with olive oil mayo to deep condition my hair and it works ok for me........my hair is never the same either, lol
You should try smaller rods or instead of rods just cocoon (bantu knot) the ends of your hair. I think it would look good.
I love this video because I experience the same thing when my hair is totally detangled. However, I am experiencing a lot of tangles and my hair lock. And when I am not able to detangle I cut them out. What should I do to keep my hair from locking & tangled? Please help! I'm thinking about starting over with a big chop.
Ah, this is me in the mornings. #thestruggle lol
+Kaleya Phillips lol yes! I gotta check my emotions sometimes lol! I be like "Girl just chill, walk away and wait it out" lol.
Obviously you're doing good stuff to your hair cause it's retaining length wonderfully but have you ever thought about doing larger twists? I too have fine hair and I only put my hair in medium to small ish twists when I know I'm not going to take them down. IE a bun.
Gorgeous
+Brittnie Bush Thanks!!
Have you ever straighten your at this length
I ha e that same problem with my sides... They just have no manners...
my hair look this when i take down too.
You are so beautiful! God Bless!
