I intend to watch every one of these though i realise that the years have sliped past since they were made i dont think i have seen a school with such a lovely spirit about it. Obviously a testament to the headmaster and the staff, a superb example of such is the master leaving the school in this episode.
I love the idea of being the opportunity for me or any of my children to attend private school. At least their education would be paramount! Plus, each time I watch this programme, I tend to feel that the headmaster loves the attention from the camera and the whole snobbery behind his job. Holding court for him and his teaching friends.. :)
Quite right. Goldie was a frightful bully and anyone who thinks that that is a good teaching style for thirteen year olds is mad. Have you read "Matilda" by Roald Dahl? or seen the film?
Roald Dahl went to Repton and Miss Trunchbull is obviously based on people like Dennis the Menace. Dennis's talk in chapel to the stigs was a grotesque act of hypocrisy. Also Revd David Coulton was known as "Gay Dave" or "Dodgy Dave" and was known to have a taste for thirteen year old children.
I reported him to Revd Rachel Bussey , child protection officer in Salisbury, in 2009 for systematically grooming me from 1979 onwards and Nick Archdale emailed to say I hadn't mentioned the peephole he had between his bedroom and his highly decorated rooms in the mansion where he used to put on film shows for the thirteen year olds
Also, he apparently used to discuss morning hard-ons in Divinity class. Nick was angry when I forwarded his emails to Thames Valley Police but I rang him up and explained that I watch him in this film and think of any adult treating a child that age in the way he treated me and it makes me furious. It really happened and Bussey sent me an email to say that she "acknowledged" the pain Coulton has caused me and there is nothing she can do about it ..
Deus Vult. An honest comment. It would have helped you to be determined, resourceful and independent, if you survived. Certainly different. I am not saying it was easy, but you might have been grateful for it. Many more advantages over an average day school.
@@maxwellfan55 Many more advantages? Haven’t you noticed how weird Johnson,Gove, Cameroon and those old Etonians who become MP’s or sit in the House of Lords are. My god, just look at the state of the Queen’s kids. Emotionally stunted, whilst also possessing horrible arrogance
@@bulliboyz Ridiculous politically-driven over reaction. There are children from all backgrounds that fit your description except much worse, many more from broken homes, abandoned or unloved. Did you go a boarding school yourself to make such an assessment, do you see yourself as a child psychologist specialising in educational backgrounds, or are you simply guessing?
"No coloured glass", thank Christ!! I remember being forced to sing in front of the class in my grammar school, that had pretentions. We were all being assessed by our VERY dodgy music teacher for his choir. He absolutely HATED pop music, but as this was 1966, he was on to a hiding to nothing. Awful, mediocre man.
@@chuolchuol363 That's not relevant to what I said..I said that the comment about sadistic phycos made by the first comment is probably about the teachers rather than the students.
My goodness, these boys have to be so independent, and emotionally stoic.

I had the pleasure of having Goldsmith as teacher in the ‘70s, taught me so much, I remember it as if it was yesterday
I love Goldie. I read online that he taught for another 25 years after this!!
Yeah, teaching these poor soda about horse racing and cricket. Very useful, I don't think.
Ridiculous poncery.
Sods rather. This guy is a charmless weirdo.
"Come along you vile boy." Lol. Sounds like my former teacher.
A right perv by the look of him. Sublimating his sadism.
It was wonderful to see 2 or 3 non- white faces in the assembly hall at the end.
Dennis Silk RIP, a truly law-abiding Englishman.

I would have hated going to a boarding school. Aged 11-15 I was a very introverted mite, scared of my own shadow!

I'm going to Radley College for A Musical Trip.

Five hundred blue points to Ravenclaw!

Ipswich had a good season 80-81 - won the UEFA cup!!
Don’t volunteer for choir, you’ll have zero free time !
Surprised new boys joined in the summer term...odd.
Interesting
these schools are full of sadistic psychos, such a shame being part of such a weird and elite institution can be so beneficial career wise
+Inca Connor How could you possibly call young boys sadistic psychos, you're being blinded by hatred and jealousy.
Inca Connor I go to this school 😂
