Beautifully done ! I'm a tour guide lecturer in the glorious city of Rouen, Normandy, and I find this video comes as close as it can get to a real tour, with an added value in the sounds and visuals. What a FANTASTIC video. I really enjoyed it. Re: Scouse stew, people made it as it was a very cheap meal to make. Great narration. Just a 100% delightful video. Thank you. Spoolbox.
Thanks Rob, for an excellent video on Liverpool either London or Liverpool always full of interest including detail of boats, trains and buses. It ages me but i remember the Titfield Thunderbolt hitting the flee pit cinemas as they were known then at (Herne Hill). It finishes off my day nicely as I have wandering around the back streets and canals near St. Pancras. and other areas today. Your house are you back to normal ?
I too was born and brought up in Liverpool but left when I was 21. Can I, like a great many other Liverpudlians, thank you for doing a wonderful job. As a young lad I used to visit my grandmother who lived close to Cains Brewery and to get there I walked up and then down Park Road at the bottom of which (near the church) stood a building which showed evidence of the Blitz. Lots of holes in the stonework around the door. Near the TA barracks on Aigburth Road there used to be bunkers for anti aircraft guns which we used to play in as kids. In a similar way to the Thames estuary, Liverpool had anti aircraft towers erected in the estuary of the Mersey.
Thank you so much for the kind words Ray, that means a lot to me coming from a born and bred Scouser. Really interesting comment too; I enjoyed reading it. Thanks again mate and stay well.
Does it make me a hopeless Beatles geek that I could recite each of their childhood addresses before you did? 😂 What a wonderful video this Sunday, thank you, Rob!
Wow! Another great video. I must take a trip to Liverpool! Had no idea about the connection to lobscouse, which I eat regularly. My father was a sailor, and he talked about Liverpool and supports Everton. Greetings from Norway. We call it Lapskaus. 😂
@@Robslondon Yes. And all through my childhood my father allways asked: is it Laps-Kaus or is it Lap-Skaus? Now you have given us the answer. I will tell him 😄
Hi Rob, Hope you are keeping well, This was a fantastic video, Great photography and sound quality with a excellent script, Appreciate the work that goes into these videos, Thank you
It's been great to know the history of Liverpool. The Albion house ,the titanic and other hollowed ships had a history with Liverpool, Liverpools role in world war 2 by setting sail of war ships is unforgettable, let's come to beetle, they had been famous ,various museums are worthwhile to see,the singer jhon lenon was iconic in his days,it's beautiful video
Thank you once again Rob - Great research and super-interesting presentation - Never been to Liverpool, but this is a great introduction to this famous and important city.
Fascinating video. Visied Liverpool several times but haven't been back for a while. Mainly went for The Beatles. Wish i went to the Slavery museum which i think is in the Albert Dock. The White Star is a great pub but my favourite is Ye Cracke just off Hope St. Excellent to see the carriage from the Dockers Umbrella. A fascinating museum for sure.
@@Robslondon Should have made time to visit the Williamson tunnels. Looks absolutely fascinating. Did manage John and Paul's houses and of course Penny Lane, Strawberry Field and The Beatles Story. The Philharmonic pub is absolutely incredible. Next time up, will see more non Beatles related places.
Ha ha! Thanks! I am hoping to do more cities.... I was in Inverness a few years ago; lovely place but I wasn't making videos back then! Will have to get back up there ;-)
Love this city - my home away from home! Was just over from Tampa & played the Cavern in late May/early June for IPO festival. Great video, ta muchly! Had a bowl of Scouse at Ma Egerton's - delish! Always stay at my mate's next to St. Michael's opposite Aigburth Road from Sefton Park & Lark Lane - big fan of pints down The Lodge...
Thanks for the shots including The White Star! I found this pub in my student days at the University, now nearly 70 years ago, and fell in love with it. Every time I return to Liverpool I try to find time to go back to The White Star for a pint of draught Bass.
It is years since I had a pint of bass bitter. Up until a few years ago you could buy cans of shandy bass. Also the name Bass is the oldest brand name in Britain. On another note Lime Street railway station is the world's oldest main line station. Manchester Liverpool Road is the world's oldest station but it is not a main line one.
I've enjoyed your videos for a while now so I was happily surprised to see a video about my home city. You taught me a few things I didn't even know so great job on the research, as always. Its so good to see someone appreciate our lovely city. I am a huge Rivers of London (book series) fan which is partly why I started watching your videos, so as to learn about the real locations featured in the books (as I disabled and unable to travel that far). With the knowledge from your videos I can almost 'see' the scenes more vividly and its more real so thank you.
Thank you so much Tilly; your comment just made my evening 😊 I truly appreciate your kind words and am delighted I can help in some way. Thanks again- and thanks to Liverpool for making me feel so welcome! Stay well.
Well done, Rob. You always do an amazing job. Thanks for the tip on the videos about the Queen's house in Greenwich and the Battersea power plant. They were very informative. We did visit the Queen's house, which is magnificent and went up the elevator in the power plant chimney - a great view of the area! Great in-depth history on both!!

Its a bit of a trek from SE Kent but certainly would love to visit this unique city again and maybe try some scouse - the food that is!!!!!
Thanks for the memories ❤ I worked in Liverpool city, before I lived there. Worked there on the intensive regeneration programme of the 1970's-80's. Later lived in the Georgian Quarter. Great job of presenting this unique, loveable City. Thank you from the US
What is a wooly back in Liverpool? woolly back (plural woolly backs) (Liverpool slang, now historical) A non-Liverpudlian person who travels to Liverpool, especially to work at the docks. (Liverpool slang, derogatory) A person from the Merseyside area surrounding Liverpool such as Skelmersdale, St. Helens, Southport, Widnes, and the Wirral.
Absolutely loved that, Rob. Thank you for such an upbeat and well researched video (like all of yours are) about a great city. This one also shows the outer wall of a building I have lived in, so thanks for that too.
Absolutely brilliant episode Rob! And great to see you out of the capital. I lived there for a brief time 30 years ago and loved it. The Williamson Caves are fascinating - labyrinths built for no reason whatsoever and Rodney Street that links the two Cathedrals - the ultra modern Catholic one being completed before the Anglican is a fascinating street with the Philharmonic pub.
Thanks so much Ian. I wanted to visit the caves but they weren’t open when I was there sadly. And expect to see the Philharmonic here at some point; I want to do a Liverpool pubs episode 😉
I absolutely love this video! Thank you. I’m a 58 year old scouser and I really enjoyed your guided tour of the city. I’ll be sure to visit a couple of sites that I hadn’t known about like the bronze aged Robin Hood stone.. fascinating! Huge gratitude for showing our city with love and respect. ❤
Thanks for a great video Rob! I live on the Wirral (the other side of the Mersey) and I worked for many years in the Royal Liver Building in the 1970s. Your video taught me facts about Liverpool that I never knew, ‘til now! Many thanks!
Very interesting. I don't know much about Liverpool. Do know about Lobscouse as I like to cook and like food history. Perhaps you could do a video about the history of Britian's common dishes. And please don't call cottage pie (beef) shepherd's pie (lamb). Hello from cloudy Oregon US.

Scouse accent came from Irish settlers coming over in the 1840s due to the potato famine. Before the 1840s Liverpool accent was just a normal south west Lancashire dialect.
I grew up in Woolton village and was at the St Peters Rose Queen event.I remember a great playing on the back of a coal lorry.I was serving on the Girl Guides bring and buy stall

@@Robslondon I’ve been there a few times relatively recently and I’m going next week for a gig. Ma boyles was always on the list for scouse but other pubs sidetracked me. Hey Rob. I lived in Liverpool for most of the 80's and would move there again if the chance occurred. Now you kept it clean about the old Lewis's store you never mentioned about the Sir Jacob Epstein statue over the main door. It is officially called Liverpool Resurgent to celebrate Liverpool resurgence after WW11 but as the statue is of a naked male proudly displaying his errr maleness its usually refered to as 'Nobby Lewis' or 'Dickie Lewis' 😮 Now I knew about that obelisk styled tomb in the Rodney Street churchyard but not the supposed story. Rodney Street was Liverpool's equivalent of Harley Street in its past. The Royal Hotel was Liverpools last(?) gas lit pub in Smithdown Road L7 where i lived. The gas lighting was only removed in the 90's(?) The facade was tile covered too. Its now student flats but the tiles are still in place. It can be seen on Google maps. I have so much in my memory about Liverpool. Oh and if I ever mention the Grafton Rooms in West Derby Road many a guys going to know what I can't put on here or YT will block it. Anyways enought of the Rose tinted spectacles past. Cheers DougT in Mancs now.

Great and interesting sharing. I love it as always. Thanks Robert. 👍👍👍😍😍😍
Thank you as always Sharon 😊 Hope you’re keeping well
Thanks rob
What a FANTASTIC video. I really enjoyed it. Re: Scouse stew, people made it as it was a very cheap meal to make. Great narration. Just a 100% delightful video. Thank you. Spoolbox.
Thank you so much Spoolbox, lovely comment 😄
Thanks Rob, for an excellent video on Liverpool either London or Liverpool always full of interest including detail of boats, trains and buses. It ages me but i remember the Titfield Thunderbolt hitting the flee pit cinemas as they were known then at (Herne Hill). It finishes off my day nicely as I have wandering around the back streets and canals near St. Pancras. and other areas today. Your house are you back to normal ?
Such a lovely comment Butch, thank you. Enjoyed reading your memories. And yes thanks, our place is almost back to normal 😉
As always, an excellent production!
Thank you asheland :-)
@@Robslondon any time! 😊
As a scouser myself this was interesting to watch. Learnt quite a lot about the little random artifacts found around the city.
Cheers Joe 😉
Not at all ;-) Many thanks Pat and stay well.
I used to work behind the bar in the Aintree Institute. Probably not quite as geeky but a bit of a claim of a link to the Beatles.
I love this! Thank you so much!
😄 It’s an absolute pleasure. Thanks for watching!
Wow! Another great video. I must take a trip to Liverpool! Had no idea about the connection to lobscouse, which I eat regularly. My father was a sailor, and he talked about Liverpool and supports Everton. Greetings from Norway. We call it Lapskaus. 😂
Brilliant comment! Really interesting to hear about Lapskaus from a Norwegian friend of the channel! Cheers Ronny.
@@Robslondon Yes. And all through my childhood my father allways asked: is it Laps-Kaus or is it Lap-Skaus? Now you have given us the answer. I will tell him 😄

That's so kind of you Dave. Many thanks indeed my friend. Hope you're keeping well and thank you again.
Thank you so much for your kind words Shah.
Thank you once again Rob - Great research and super-interesting presentation - Never been to Liverpool, but this is a great introduction to this famous and important city.
Thank you so much. Hope you get to visit there sometime!
Superb comment Maurice, thank you 😉
@@Robslondon Should have made time to visit the Williamson tunnels. Looks absolutely fascinating.
Did manage John and Paul's houses and of course Penny Lane, Strawberry Field and The Beatles Story.
The Philharmonic pub is absolutely incredible.
Next time up, will see more non Beatles related places.
Yeah, I wanted to see the Williamson Tunnels too but they have very limited opening times, I could get there unfortunately
i am a scouser from toxteth williamson tunnels a place to visit known as the mole of edgehill
Yes, I wanted to go there... but they have very limited opening times! I was unable to make it sadly.
Beautifully done! Amazing tour of Liverpool, thank you!
Thank you! Much appreciated 😄
good vid - should get to all the UK cities as a long term goal!
I will eagerly await being last living in Inverness 🙂
Ha ha! Thanks! I am hoping to do more cities.... I was in Inverness a few years ago; lovely place but I wasn't making videos back then! Will have to get back up there ;-)
Thanks for the superb video, Rob. Great to see a city I don't know getting your expert treatment! Loads of great facts there. I'll have to visit.
Really appreciate that Alex, thank you. And if you get the chance, do visit- it’s a brilliant place.
@@Robslondon Will do. It really looks stunning. My kind of place.
Such a great comment, thank you! 🤩
@@Robslondon you're welcome :-)
Never visited Liverpool. Now I’d like to. Great vid Rob!
Thank you! Try and get there, it's great ;-)
Thanks for the shots including The White Star! I found this pub in my student days at the University, now nearly 70 years ago, and fell in love with it. Every time I return to Liverpool I try to find time to go back to The White Star for a pint of draught Bass.
Ha ha! Thanks! Yes, it's a great pub- feels like a real locals' place despite being so central. Thanks again for the lovely comment ;-)
A gem as always, Rob. Many thanks from a cold and wet corner of New Zealand (it looked much nicer in Liverpool).
That's so kind, thank you avalnz! I really appreciate your support. I think I got lucky with the weather! Thanks again and stay well.
Thoroughly enjoyable and informative video Rob, thank you. your videos just get better and better.
Thanks so much Slycockney ;-) Hope you're keeping well.
Stay well.
Yet another excellent and interesting video. Fantastic work and I can't wait for the next one!♥
Thank you so much Jentill, really kind of you to say 😀
Well done, Rob. You always do an amazing job. Thanks for the tip on the videos about the Queen's house in Greenwich and the Battersea power plant. They were very informative. We did visit the Queen's house, which is magnificent and went up the elevator in the power plant chimney - a great view of the area! Great in-depth history on both!!
Lovely comment! Many thanks for the kind words, glad to help 😄
I grew up believing the triangle grave was because he sold his soul to the devil, last hand of cards and lost it all. Thanks for visiting Liverpool my home town ❤

In the money! Have you picked up the scouse accent yet? Cheers at 10:30 PT.
Not yet! 😉🤣
Hey Rob so you managed to escape from the Big Smoke. Really enjoyed learning more about the 'pool somewhere i have visited just once many many years ago yet still feel I know due to my Brookside obsession. Its a bit of a trek from SE Kent but certainly would love to visit this unique city again and maybe try some scouse - the food that is!!!!!
Ha ha! Yep 😉 You need to get up there Jason, it’s a great city.
Thanks for the memories ❤ I worked in Liverpool city, before I lived there. Worked there on the intensive regeneration programme of the 1970's-80's. Later lived in the Georgian Quarter.
Great job of presenting this unique, loveable City. Thank you from the US
Wonderful comment Jen, thank you so much. And you did a great job 😉

It’s a pleasure Graham, thanks for watching
Another great video 👍 I did a double take when I read Liverpool in the title

I absolutely love this video! Thank you. I’m a 58 year old scouser and I really enjoyed your guided tour of the city. I’ll be sure to visit a couple of sites that I hadn’t known about like the bronze aged Robin Hood stone.. fascinating! Huge gratitude for showing our city with love and respect. ❤
It's a pleasure Sandra! Thank you for watching, and many thanks too for the kind words. Stay well :-)
Thanks for a great video Rob! I live on the Wirral (the other side of the Mersey) and I worked for many years in the Royal Liver Building in the 1970s.
Your video taught me facts about Liverpool that I never knew, ‘til now!
Many thanks!
Thanks so much Steve 😄
Scouse? best I know of is to be had at Maggie Mays on Bold Street. Thank you for a brilliant romp through Liverpool.😃
Thanks! I'll have to give Maggie Mays a go; I have heard of it ;-)
Very interesting. I don't know much about Liverpool. Do know about Lobscouse as I like to cook and like food history. Perhaps you could do a video about the history of Britian's common dishes. And please don't call cottage pie (beef) shepherd's pie (lamb). Hello from cloudy Oregon US.
That is a good idea :-D Thanks.
Omg I live in liverpool and you literally stood outside the place I work to get that shot of the liver building I've lived in liverpool for nearly 30 years I wouldn't want to live anywhere else I came here from Manchester in 1995 I have to admit london is my 2nd favourite city after liverpool
Thanks Cath 😄
@Robslondon I live in dingle near the streets where they filmed bread in the 80s I don't know if you remember that programme or not
@@cath_matson I do remember Bread! We’ll be right at home…. 😉
Wonderful video, so informative! I am moving to Liverpool in August and I am really excited to discover this magnificent historic city.
Thank you for such a lovely comment! Hope your move there goes well and that you enjoy living in Liverpool :-)
Scouse accent came from Irish settlers coming over in the 1840s due to the potato famine. Before the 1840s Liverpool accent was just a normal south west Lancashire dialect.
Yes! I'd say there is a slight Welsh influence on it too?
I grew up in Woolton village and was at the St Peters Rose Queen event.I remember a great playing on the back of a coal lorry.I was serving on the Girl Guides bring and buy stall
Nice comment, thank you.
Nice educational video you have just got yourself a new subscriber , & yet there's a guy who plays daft games with his mam & step dad has 12 million

Hey Rob. I lived in Liverpool for most of the 80's and would move there again if the chance occurred. Now you kept it clean about the old
Lewis's store you never mentioned about the Sir Jacob Epstein statue over the main door.
Ha ha! Cheers Doug! Yep, I couldn't include the statue you mention, I don't think the video would be allowed up ;-) Interesting thoughts, cheers.
Maggie Mays is great for Scouse
Brilliant, Rob!
I was rather taken aback to hear your London chimes then suddenly the Liver Building..! 😂
