Beautifully done ! I'm a tour guide lecturer in the glorious city of Rouen, Normandy, and I find this video comes as close as it can get to a real tour, with an added value in the sounds and visuals. Thank you Rob. I've enjoyed your London episodes so very much but as a "Scouser" I was delighted with your take on Liverpool. Very comprehensive and caught the flavour of the city. A couple of buildings that would have been worth adding would include the Philharmonic Hall, Philharmonic Pub and Bluecoat Chambers. Thanks for the shots including The White Star! I found this pub in my student days at the University, now nearly 70 years ago, and fell in love with it. Every time I return to Liverpool I try to find time to go back to The White Star for a pint of draught Bass.
It is years since I had a pint of bass bitter. Up until a few years ago you could buy cans of shandy bass. Also the name Bass is the oldest brand name in Britain. On another note Lime Street railway station is the world's oldest main line station. Manchester Liverpool Road is the world's oldest station but it is not a main line one.

Thanks for the memories ❤ I worked in Liverpool city, before I lived there. Worked there on the intensive regeneration programme of the 1970's-80's. Later lived in the Georgian Quarter. Great job of presenting this unique, loveable City. Thank you from the US
@@Robslondon I’ve been there a few times relatively recently and I’m going next week for a gig. Ma boyles was always on the list for scouse but other pubs sidetracked me. So I’ll definitely go there after seeing it. I had scouse in the museum cafe once though and it wasnt half as good as ma boyles looked
Absolutely brilliant episode Rob! And great to see you out of the capital. I lived there for a brief time 30 years ago and loved it. The Williamson Caves are fascinating - labyrinths built for no reason whatsoever and Rodney Street that links the two Cathedrals - the ultra modern Catholic one being completed before the Anglican is a fascinating street with the Philharmonic pub.
Thanks so much Ian. I wanted to visit the caves but they weren’t open when I was there sadly. And expect to see the Philharmonic here at some point; I want to do a Liverpool pubs episode 😉
Fascinating video. Visied Liverpool several times but haven't been back for a while. Mainly went for The Beatles. Wish i went to the Slavery museum which i think is in the Albert Dock. The White Star is a great pub but my favourite is Ye Cracke just off Hope St. Excellent to see the carriage from the Dockers Umbrella. A fascinating museum for sure.
@@Robslondon Should have made time to visit the Williamson tunnels. Looks absolutely fascinating. Did manage John and Paul's houses and of course Penny Lane, Strawberry Field and The Beatles Story. The Philharmonic pub is absolutely incredible. Next time up, will see more non Beatles related places.
Wow! Another great video. I must take a trip to Liverpool! Had no idea about the connection to lobscouse, which I eat regularly. My father was a sailor, and he talked about Liverpool and supports Everton. Greetings from Norway. We call it Lapskaus. 😂
@@Robslondon Yes. And all through my childhood my father allways asked: is it Laps-Kaus or is it Lap-Skaus? Now you have given us the answer. I will tell him 😄
Does it make me a hopeless Beatles geek that I could recite each of their childhood addresses before you did? 😂 What a wonderful video this Sunday, thank you, Rob!
I've enjoyed your videos for a while now so I was happily surprised to see a video about my home city. You taught me a few things I didn't even know so great job on the research, as always. Its so good to see someone appreciate our lovely city. I am a huge Rivers of London (book series) fan which is partly why I started watching your videos, so as to learn about the real locations featured in the books (as I disabled and unable to travel that far). With the knowledge from your videos I can almost 'see' the scenes more vividly and its more real so thank you.
Thank you so much Tilly; your comment just made my evening 😊 I truly appreciate your kind words and am delighted I can help in some way. Thanks again- and thanks to Liverpool for making me feel so welcome! Stay well.
What a FANTASTIC video. I really enjoyed it. Re: Scouse stew, people made it as it was a very cheap meal to make. Great narration. Just a 100% delightful video. Thank you. Spoolbox.
I too was born and brought up in Liverpool but left when I was 21. Can I, like a great many other Liverpudlians, thank you for doing a wonderful job. As a young lad I used to visit my grandmother who lived close to Cains Brewery and to get there I walked up and then down Park Road at the bottom of which (near the church) stood a building which showed evidence of the Blitz. Lots of holes in the stonework around the door. Near the TA barracks on Aigburth Road there used to be bunkers for anti aircraft guns which we used to play in as kids. In a similar way to the Thames estuary, Liverpool had anti aircraft towers erected in the estuary of the Mersey.
Thank you so much for the kind words Ray, that means a lot to me coming from a born and bred Scouser. Really interesting comment too; I enjoyed reading it. Thanks again mate and stay well.
Brilliantly put together as always. I’m a big fan of Liverpool too, along with Bristol its one of my favourite cities. The scousers are dead friendly. There’s plenty of amazing pubs to explore too. I plan to make a visit over the next year or so, and will definitely use your video as it’s got so many places of interest that I’m unfamiliar with.🤓👍
Such a great comment, thank you! Bristol is a beautiful city... and I'm hoping to return to Liverpool at some point to make a video all about the pubs there ;-) Cheers and stay well.
Well done, Rob. You always do an amazing job. Thanks for the tip on the videos about the Queen's house in Greenwich and the Battersea power plant. They were very informative. We did visit the Queen's house, which is magnificent and went up the elevator in the power plant chimney - a great view of the area! Great in-depth history on both!!
Thank you so much, Rob! I never really knew anything about Liverpool. Now I think we should take a train from London and have a pint together when we get to Liverpool! 😉
Owing to family connections, I’ve visited Liverpool pretty much hundreds of times. I knew a lot of these stories but certainly learned a thing or two I didn’t know. Great video which made me super nostalgic to visit again as it’s been a while. One of my favourite places in the UK.
As a scouser I love people coming and exploring.great vlog, when you was at Eleanor rigby grave just behind at back of church is sir bob paisley’s grave lfc manager “3 European cups”And if you go to edge hill you can get into the tunnels that are beneath the park that lead to the docks, if you check it out there was an amazing tunnel entrance built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel ,also further back up railway is rainhill station where the trials was held and first ever passaenger train which the rocket won. Also the billy fury statue , did you no he lived opposite Paul McCartney in St John’s Wood London his house has blue plaque .If back up this way drop me line I’ll show you few sites you won’t no, Stuart sutcliffes grave,Freddy starrs grave .Also where hitler lived in toxteth with his step brother Laois in 1912/13 as art student.
Love this city - my home away from home! Was just over from Tampa & played the Cavern in late May/early June for IPO festival. Great video, ta muchly! Had a bowl of Scouse at Ma Egerton's - delish! Always stay at my mate's next to St. Michael's opposite Aigburth Road from Sefton Park & Lark Lane - big fan of pints down The Lodge...
Thanks for a great video Rob! I live on the Wirral (the other side of the Mersey) and I worked for many years in the Royal Liver Building in the 1970s. Your video taught me facts about Liverpool that I never knew, ‘til now! Many thanks!
Absolutely loved that, Rob. Thank you for such an upbeat and well researched video (like all of yours are) about a great city. This one also shows the outer wall of a building I have lived in, so thanks for that too.
One of my favourite buildings in Liverpool was the Cunard Hotel, which was shaped like a ship's bow. Word was that New York passengers could stay in a replica of their ship cabin before embarkation, and have the same room in the Big Apple as well. Loved what you've done here.x
You covered Liverpool really well Rob..Football, Mudic, Ships, Undeground, etc. some great old boozers in the City. One thing people don't know is that there is a 3rd Liver Bird. It's stands on Mersey Chambers nearby the Liver Bird Building. It has a wing missing and supposedly is the ' mother' of the other two. Brilliant video Rob 👍👏
Loved yet another of your videos Today I’ve watched 4 ,three about London and this one Liverpool is my favourite city in the UK Glasgow being a close second I have learnt a huge amount about London and Liverpool from those brilliant videos I’ve seen a lot of places in Liverpool but surprised by the amount of ones I haven’t Keep the content coming Many thanks Rob for this knowledge

Thanks Rob, for an excellent video on Liverpool either London or Liverpool always full of interest including detail of boats, trains and buses. It ages me but i remember the Titfield Thunderbolt hitting the flee pit cinemas as they were known then at (Herne Hill). It finishes off my day nicely as I have wandering around the back streets and canals near St. Pancras. and other areas today. Your house are you back to normal ?
I was born in Everton- st domingo grove- and love that you did a little bit on it- rupert's tower. I grew up in Bootle/Seaforth though and as a youth we hung around the docks and would walk into Liverpool centre down Regent Rd, the dock road.Back then, mid to late 60s, it was a fascinating area with all the massive warehouses storing all manner of goods from around the world. I'm sure there was the largest under cover warehouse in the world somewhere there too, back then. Tate And Lyle had a massive sugar refinery along the dock road and the smell of molasses being refined was unreal, gorgeous and bread factories all over the place. There was a massive nut warehouse up the other end at Litherland/Seaforth where the workers would let us kids scavenge the floor area for dropped nuts off of the forklift trucks pallets, once the forkies had stopped moving around. There was a massive tug mounted floating crane- i think it was called Goliath or Mammoth or summat like that, nah Goliath i'm fairly sure, it was often moored up at, i think, the Huskisson dock area- a real engineering marvel. The smells sights and sounds were astonishing. There was no better place to be at midnight new years eve than the dock road. Massive ocean liners would berth up all lit up like Hollywood and blast their sirens and horns, let off fireworks and shine their floodlights up into the midnight sky and all across the Mersey. Magical place for us kids in the 60s living in Grove Street 50 yards from Gladstone dock....no, no better city than Larpool and i've been all over the world for the last 40 or so years tho the 'Pool has always been my earth, rock and soul
Another great video, thank you. In the last part of your video, you mentioned Sefton Park. You may be interested to know that Carol Molyneux, one of the sons of the Earl of Sefton, lived in the Red House in Bodicote, just outside Banbury, and within a mile of where I live. The house is now surrounded by 1960s housing and among the nearby roads are Molyneux Drive, Red House Road and Sefton Place, all with a link to Sefton Park in Liverpool.

That means a lot to me mate. Many thanks indeed; and thanks for watching; I really appreciate it. Cheers and stay well.
Thanks for the memories ❤ I worked in Liverpool city, before I lived there. Worked there on the intensive regeneration programme of the 1970's-80's. Later lived in the Georgian Quarter.
Great job of presenting this unique, loveable City. Thank you from the US
Wonderful comment Jen, thank you so much. And you did a great job 😉
@@Robslondon Many Thanks
I lived near Liverpool until I was 16. I only knew about 10 % of the subjects of this absorbing video, though. This is highly professional stuff.
Really appreciate than Jon, thank you. Hope you're keeping well.
Excellent video Rob, as a lover of history, architecture, engineering, railways and pop culture it ticked every box, thank you Sir 😊
Thank you Rob! Hope you're keeping well.
Another great video Rob. Visited a few times over the yrs, and always had a good visit.
Thank you so much Paul. Yes, it’s a great city isn’t it 😉
You must have been there for 4 months to film all that. Incredibly well researched.
Ha ha! Thank you... took four days ;-)
The FBI is still looking for you DB 😉
@@-DC- I’m hiding in plain sight 😎
@@Robslondon I’ve been there a few times relatively recently and I’m going next week for a gig. Ma boyles was always on the list for scouse but other pubs sidetracked me. So I’ll definitely go there after seeing it. I had scouse in the museum cafe once though and it wasnt half as good as ma boyles looked
🤣
Beautifully done! Amazing tour of Liverpool, thank you!
Thank you! Much appreciated 😄
I've watched several videos. You've got a fantastic voice for narration. Very appealing and easy to listen to. Clear and well paced.
That's so kind of you to say :-) Thank you, it means a lot to me.
Superb comment Maurice, thank you 😉
@@Robslondon Should have made time to visit the Williamson tunnels. Looks absolutely fascinating.
Did manage John and Paul's houses and of course Penny Lane, Strawberry Field and The Beatles Story.
The Philharmonic pub is absolutely incredible.
Next time up, will see more non Beatles related places.
Yeah, I wanted to see the Williamson Tunnels too but they have very limited opening times, I could get there unfortunately
Wow! Another great video. I must take a trip to Liverpool! Had no idea about the connection to lobscouse, which I eat regularly. My father was a sailor, and he talked about Liverpool and supports Everton. Greetings from Norway. We call it Lapskaus. 😂
Brilliant comment! Really interesting to hear about Lapskaus from a Norwegian friend of the channel! Cheers Ronny.
@@Robslondon Yes. And all through my childhood my father allways asked: is it Laps-Kaus or is it Lap-Skaus? Now you have given us the answer. I will tell him 😄
@@ronnyskaar3737 😀
One of your best my friend! A fantastic video filled with great information.
Thank you so much Patrick. Really appreciate that. Stay well.
Does it make me a hopeless Beatles geek that I could recite each of their childhood addresses before you did? 😂 What a wonderful video this Sunday, thank you, Rob!
Not at all ;-) Many thanks Pat and stay well.
I used to work behind the bar in the Aintree Institute. Probably not quite as geeky but a bit of a claim of a link to the Beatles.
As a resident of the city for 48 years this was fascinating. Cheers for a fantastic video with a lot of interesting information.
It’s a pleasure. Thanks so much for watching 😄
Thank you. Spoolbox.
Thank you so much Spoolbox, lovely comment 😄
Great and interesting sharing. I love it as always. Thanks Robert. 👍👍👍😍😍😍
Thank you as always Sharon 😊 Hope you’re keeping well
Thanks rob
Brilliantly put together as always. I’m a big fan of Liverpool too, along with Bristol its one of my favourite cities. The scousers are dead friendly. There’s plenty of amazing pubs to explore too. I plan to make a visit over the next year or so, and will definitely use your video as it’s got so many places of interest that I’m unfamiliar with.🤓👍
Such a great comment, thank you! Bristol is a beautiful city... and I'm hoping to return to Liverpool at some point to make a video all about the pubs there ;-) Cheers and stay well.
As always, an excellent production!
Thank you asheland :-)
@@Robslondon any time! 😊
Lovely comment! Many thanks for the kind words, glad to help 😄
Scouse? best I know of is to be had at Maggie Mays on Bold Street. Thank you for a brilliant romp through Liverpool.😃
Thanks! I'll have to give Maggie Mays a go; I have heard of it ;-)

Thank you so much, Rob! I never really knew anything about Liverpool. Now I think we should take a train from London and have a pint together when we get to Liverpool! 😉

Thanks for the superb video, Rob. Great to see a city I don't know getting your expert treatment! Loads of great facts there. I'll have to visit.
Really appreciate that Alex, thank you. And if you get the chance, do visit- it’s a brilliant place.
@@Robslondon Will do. It really looks stunning. My kind of place.
Excellent video! That Chinatown is underwhelming, but a potential goldmine because of the arch!
Thanks you much Toni!
Owing to family connections, I’ve visited Liverpool pretty much hundreds of times. I knew a lot of these stories but certainly learned a thing or two I didn’t know. Great video which made me super nostalgic to visit again as it’s been a while. One of my favourite places in the UK.
Thank you! Lovely comment
Takk!

Thanks so much Hector- and that’s a great bit of trivia 😉 Cheers
Thanks for this great video! I have learned a few more interesting facts about my home city : )
Thanks David! Hope you’re keeping well up there 😉
You covered Liverpool really well Rob..Football, Mudic, Ships, Undeground, etc. some great old boozers in the City. One thing people don't know is that there is a 3rd Liver Bird. It's stands on Mersey Chambers nearby the Liver Bird Building. It has a wing missing and supposedly is the ' mother' of the other two. Brilliant video Rob 👍👏
Brilliant comment Dave, thank you. And I had no idea about the 3rd Liver Bird; fascinating! I’m planning a pubs special in Liverpool at some point 😉

@@Robslondon if you make an part two to this video, I wouldn’t mind if you look at the colderstones stones and the bilzed out beach at Cosby and formby!
An absolutely awesome documentary, miles better than anything on TV. Once again, thank you very much for all the hard work you put into making these documentaries.
BTW the only time I visited Liverpool was to see Shonen Knife.
Thank you so much Jake, that’s really kind of you to say 😄
This is brilliant, a pleasure to watch. I always wondered what that pyramid shaped structure off of Rodney Street was!
Thank you so much 😄
Thanks Rob, for an excellent video on Liverpool either London or Liverpool always full of interest including detail of boats, trains and buses. It ages me but i remember the Titfield Thunderbolt hitting the flee pit cinemas as they were known then at (Herne Hill). It finishes off my day nicely as I have wandering around the back streets and canals near St. Pancras. and other areas today. Your house are you back to normal ?
Such a lovely comment Butch, thank you. Enjoyed reading your memories. And yes thanks, our place is almost back to normal 😉
This is, quite simply, a beautiful comment.
I really enjoyed reading your memories deepfryblue- very atmospheric. Thank you so much for sharing.
an absolutely fascinating departure from London!
Thank you Sarahlouise 😄
Another great video, thank you. In the last part of your video, you mentioned Sefton Park. You may be interested to know that Carol Molyneux, one of the sons of the Earl of Sefton, lived in the Red House in Bodicote, just outside Banbury, and within a mile of where I live. The house is now surrounded by 1960s housing and among the nearby roads are Molyneux Drive, Red House Road and Sefton Place, all with a link to Sefton Park in Liverpool.
Interesting! Thank you Sparky.
