Yes, indeed Shakespeare had the rare gift of putting into words in many of his plays and sonnets hard truths which shocks and shakes the observer to the core. Pure genius. The words have the ability to wake us up from our dreary slumber which is largely brought on by our routinely dull existence. Just like the lightning bolt mentioned in the Holy Quran. His works were and are very poignant and have touched many poets and writers. The very famous 'Poet of the East' Allama Muhammad Iqbal put to pen his praise of Shakespeare thus: Muhammad Iqbal: Shakespeare (From Urdu) Shakespeare By Muhammad Iqbal The river's sweep is mirror to the morning's breaking light The evening silence: mirror to the song of eventide The rose's petal: mirror to the lovely cheek of spring The handsome server: mirror to the gorgeousness of wine. Thank you for creating this video, allowing me to touch base with books and authors I have read and loved and you both brought refreshing insights and perspectives that I had never thought about or defined, wow was this refreshing and much needed as I was drowning in the sorrows of our modern world and I am taking your advice and going to read probably Shakespeare again, first😊
Recently read a book called The Sultan and the Queen, which has portions dedicated to Shakespeare. Its actually staggering how much he, and English plays in general, we're influenced and shaped by events in the Islamic world.
Hey Paul…I went to school of Drama and as you know, wherever school of Drama of Drama you go to, you still need to read Sheakspear. Thanks for that episode
Congratulations on reaching half a million subscribers 😀MashaAllah. By the way, it would have been interesting to comment on Shakespeare's "Othello", where the eponymous character is described as a "Moor" (although he was baptised as Christian, he was likely Muslim by birth). In his book "This Orient Isle: Elizabethan England and the Islamic World" (Allen Lane, 2016), Jerry Brotton spends about 20 pages discussing this play, and he suggests that Shakespeare would have been familiar with the visit of a diplomatic mission from Morocco to the court of Queen Elizabeth I around the time he was writing "Othello".

Subhan Allah. Allah does nothing without reason. There for any feeling can be a gift from Allah. The only fear could be that we feel nothing.

Assalamo alaykum, Brother Paul. Another brilliant discussion about the congruence of certain Islamic ideas and concepts that can be found in the works of William Shakespeare. Shakespeare refers to Aleppo in at least two of his plays that I could find after a cursory search. The plays are Othello and Macbeth. Aleppo was a major trading hub in Shakespeare’s time, and it is once again in the center of events. Aleppo at then was under the rule of the Ottomans. With Turkiye now actively involved in the political events in Syria once again, it begs some questions. With the Elizabethan fascination with Aleppo, was there an exchange of ideas and concepts between the Middle East and Europe? And could these ideas have influenced Shakespeare? Here is an excerpt from Othello’s farewell speech before he commits suicide: "Set you down this, and say besides that in Aleppo once, where a malignant and a turbaned Turk beat a Venetian and traduced the state, I took by th' throat the circumcised dog. And smote him thus…" And again, in Macbeth, one of the witches mentions Aleppo at the start of the play when she says, "Her husband's to Aleppo gone, master o'th'Tiger". The witch plans to sail to Aleppo in a sieve to overtake the ship of the sailor whose wife insulted her and refused to share her chestnuts. Perhaps Dr Tarek Elgawhary can shed some light on the influence of Islam and Islamic thought during the Elizabethan age. Iltemas e dua

AsSalaamu Alaikum, Although the western literary canon has lost its authority in the mainstream American society, it may be useful to note that literary works have entered and been taken out of the western canon. As this discussion about canon continues, it may be worthy to research which literary works are taking an authoritative place in the current age. It may indicate the trajectory of the current society. Likewise with the advent of technology, it maybe interesting to note if other forms of art have taken a more significant role in society, for example a cinematic canon. The cinematic western canon is grounded in the western literary canon, integrally. How we tell stories and write scripts is based upon the western literary canon. So maybe some of the concepts are continuing but in different artistic canons or in different literary works. Another thing that the loss of the western canon may indicate is a sign of the fall of a civilization. In the western canon in the works of Saint Augustine, we understand a continuation and appreciation of works from conquered nations or assimilated nations into the dominant culture. However there is another tradition of conquering civilizations destroying the works of conquered nations. As we pay attention to the current societal trajectory, we may see that another historical precedent is being expressed. Since this trend is happening from the inside out, I wonder if historically we have examples of nations and civilizations that lose their sense of self from within. Scary trend but maybe that is the indication of the current age.

We want God to do things for us, like save us etc, when in fact He already DID everything for us from the start, isn't it our responsibilities to restore or giveback to Him, instead of playing god ourselves. What's happening are just results of what have been done wrongly by man from his original creation, wanting to be god himself and destroying his connection and alignment to what is true, just and natural and forever Now we got impure and become fakes, always escaping and warring, destroying toppling each other.
Bla bla - joke lol. A very good channel. I think though 97% of people who claim to enjoy this stuff only pretend to appear sophisticated, intelligent. It is just the equivalent of olden days anime and/or rap. Contemporary anime (or cinema more generally to resemble the theatrical aspect of it e.g. Marvel, Godfather) and rap (which incorporates word play and rhythm,) fanatics wax philosophical about the nuances and sophistication of the word play and psychological depths of those art forms (I, emphatically, am not one of them!). But, alas, many have been brainwashed to be prejudicial towards the heritage of this country, and especially its past. Today reading or listening to shakespeare sounds, unequivocally, ridiculous and necessarily convoluted. History is often overrated just for being historical. But many cannot escape boxes others have put them in.
If people followed the likes of you, we wouldn't study, ear or sleep. We would only talk about politics. We have experienced the Mongols, the Crusaders, colonialism and neo-colonialism. If we all had collectively stopped every time a calamity hit us we wouldn't exist anymore. Syria has not been liberated. It just changed the prison guard. A terrible leader and government was replaced by CIA and Israel backed Daesh and Al Qaïda takfiri militias.
