Marcus- Your content is always fantastic. The audio is much better since you got the new mic. Thank you for the excellence you bring to golf instruction!
Thanks Marcus...a great drill. I struck me a few years ago that we don't have the language to really describe what is going on when it comes to the club head path, and your drill demonstrates this perfectly. Often instructors talk about the "swing circle", and they are partially correct. However, when you add body motion towards the ball and target, the actual clubhead path is an oval with the long edge of the oval pointing towards the target (more or less). The effective enter of the circle must move forward and down changing the actual club head from circular to elliptical. This challenge was confounded in history because it is hard if not impossible to accurately draw this dynamic motion in 2 dimensions and rarely if ever never made it into early golf books and guides. While this might seem semantic to some, those old guys like me who heard the term "swing circle" for years and years, and focused on trying to draw that dam circle with the club head, it created all kinds of problems that no one ever connected to a mental image of a circle. Your drill/explanations help change that image by rewriting the story and more accurately bringing the dynamic (and natural) nature of a good swing path into view. Thank you very much.
I love the emphasis on movement over position!! Allows the body to react naturally when supported by intention, which frees the mind from multiple swing thoughts. Bravo!!
Definite game changer...I play at St Andrews Links courses and have tried this on my last 3 games without practicing the move first and I get instant results the connection is amazing. Sometimes I duff the ball and it goes straight left...however I will keep trying to get the move in to my game. Your videos are brilliant and have changed my game. Keep up the good work!!
I could watch you for hours, Marcus. I really love your energy and your capability of explaining things and bringing us back to or most likely, let us discover a natural swing. Thanks
These are knowledge gold. Add these videos to the experience gained from going for a lesson, you've so much information to help you practice and play better golf.
Thanks Paul, a lesson definitely helps create context and clarity for future viewing. It enables you to recognise what is applicable for you to explore to compliment your own journey 👍
love to see golf instruction going back to the basics of "swinging the golf club".... I would love to see you do more videos on this slingshot drill.... I can't see that snap action when you do a full swing. Is that a snap feeling we should feel on all shots?
Great demonstration, can't wait to try this with the driver because that's the one I really have a hard time swinging up on the ball with. I tend to drag my hands through and never really snap the wrists.
Great video; thanks for this. I would love to see another video on the slingshot, showing that wrist action in a bit more detail, especially with the driver. Subscribed. Please keep them coming.
Makes a lot of sense for coming down under rather than over in a normal golf swing. Coming over the top is a common fault for a lot of golfers. One of the "corrections" for this, which l have tried myself, is swinging down at the ball from a closed position, which is a major game changer. But l,ll certainly give this drill of your,s a try Marcus. Fantastic.
A perfect drill as well as the description of the 2-3 area. And a very good swing thought. I have a question. I´m struggling to find which way to hit... I´m right handed but bat from the left... the sling motion seems to be a copy of a base ball swing... Would it be a good idea to commit to the left...?
This and the toe divot drills have helped me properly release the club. What a difference. Lower, more penetrating flight. Plenty to work on, but finally feel as though I am working on the right path. Saludos de México. Gracias Marcus
I discovered this feeling in my swing a few years ago. It took me a while to harness it and gain accuracy, but I found effortless power with solid contact. A tip I would offer to compliment this concept which wasn't mentioned would be this: the speed of the clubbed, or the slingshot sensation is heavily dependant on the hands slowing down PRIOR to impact! If you watch closely, you see his hands stall during the sequence, just before the club fires into a slingshot. Another way to conceptualise it is to watch a video of a whip cracking and you'll see the importance of the hands stalling.
Thanks, totally agree. Can't include all details in order to keep it simple. Deceleration is a function that enables the transfer of angular momentum and happens naturally if we let it 👍
Ist time viewer here. Did you know that you're creating a pendulum system as opposed to a levering system? You can't swing a lever. The first person to explain this was Ernest Jones in his books Swinging Into Golf and Swing the Clubhead. If you swing something you create centrifugal force which you're doing a nice job of demonstrating. I like the way you have the clubface 'open' during the downswing- it's actually on-plane believe it or not. BTW the pendulum system will create inertial forces (centrifugal) and also angular momentum (I see you mention AM below)- that's where you are getting the whip or wrist snap from.
Hi Marcus, quick question. How does this drill (which feels like releasing forward) match the concept of your recent videos on the wrecking ball releasing down action?
Do you believe that the design of the club ( heavy heel , light toe) means the club head wants to naturally rotate around the shaft. Effectively opening on backswing and closing on downswing. Thanks.
There's more to it of course but in general it's the lagged sequence with the pivot action of the body that is at the heart of it. Another main element is your low point and release pattern which influences how your body recognises squaring the face.
I find that a lot of modern youtube golf instructions tell me to "keep the clubhead square to target" throughout the swing. They argue that letting the wrist move freely, or letting yourself "use all the levers", will put a lot of pressure on timing. What do you think, Marcus? Doesnt that argument actually make a bit of sense?
The pivot of the body action tensions the arms naturally and stabilises the wrist function. This exercise is just that and not actually how the wrists react in the actually golf swing.

Pure Gold!! I now understand the slingshot that’s been spoken about over the years. Great tutorial Marcus - another beauty.
Thanks, glad it cleared things up. Clarity is key for intention to move 👍

Conceptualisation plays a big role in intent and natural movement organisation 👍

Absolutely! Thanks appreciate it. Developing awareness through movement is key 👍

Taking this to the range with my GRF for the rest of the off season.
Enjoy and good luck 👊

Thanks Marc, really appreciate it. We've all got it, just got to find our way there 👍
The best illustration of how the swing and release works in the simplest but clearest way. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!

Awesome, the toe deep drill does so much more than rotate the face 👍
Absolutely, feel like I can take a divot with ease and get those penetrating ball flights @@GRFGolf
This works way better than all that position crap! Just added 20 yards and haven’t even perfected it yet! Appreciate the logic!
That's amazing, keep up the great work 👍
Excellent help for my circle of speed!!
Glad it helped! 👍
WHAT A COMPLTE SWING, FOR ALL CLUBS!

There’s another Marcus from Sweden who calls this the circle of speed.
I've been doing this for years, check out the videos from the early days. Great to know there's like minded coaches out there 👍
@@GRFGolfMarcus Edblad has been doing it for over twenty years, he's a Swedish long drive champion.

Hi Marcus, can you add to this for a fade shot? 🙏🏻
Definitely 👍
Great lesson on a very misunderstood part of the swing.
Glad you liked it!
Thanks!
Thanks so much, glad it's helping 👍
Updated sling version of GRF great Marcus
100% Cheers 👍
Hi Marcus, quick question. How does this drill (which feels like releasing forward) match the concept of your recent videos on the wrecking ball releasing down action?
The wrecking ball starts the motion 👍
Do you believe that the design of the club ( heavy heel , light toe) means the club head wants to naturally rotate around the shaft. Effectively opening on backswing and closing on downswing. Thanks.
Absolutely, the club naturally rotates if we allow it to happen 👍
This is genius!
Thank you 👍
How do you prevent this action from overdrawing and snap hooking?
There's more to it of course but in general it's the lagged sequence with the pivot action of the body that is at the heart of it. Another main element is your low point and release pattern which influences how your body recognises squaring the face.
There’s a Japanese instructor who hits balls doing that, i.e he brings the club back to where the ball was.

They argue that letting the wrist move freely, or letting yourself "use all the levers", will put a lot of pressure on timing. What do you think, Marcus? The pivot of the body action tensions the arms naturally and stabilises the wrist function. This exercise is just that and not actually how the wrists react in the actually golf swing.
I wonder if the pro is doing this.
They're all lagging the swing weight in some way, shape or form 👍
Yes, don't give the body the time to make errors.
Blah Blah Blah, the BS never ends does it.
