Apparently you need immediately to watch and listen to Pete Seeger who is just standing by as an admirer a fan as will you be and that song Would Be My Country Tis of the thy people are dying Buffy St Marie watch it Pronto Tonto I'm going to watch it for you Buffy Saint Marie
Before a show in the dressing room Warren was sitting there and a crew guy told him Bob Dylan's here. Warren said "why"? Said he wanted to see you, say hi". And they sat down like to great song writing craftsmen. Love that tale.
If I didn't know he didn't, and you told me this was a Jerry or Hunter song, I would have no reason not to believe you. I've never heard this, thanks a bunch for sharing.
One night, I watched David Letterman and it was because Warren Zevon was the guest. Warren announced he was diagnosed with death and wrote a song, maybe an album, to it. He performed it. Letterman kinda downplayed Warren's diagnosis but Warren was and rightfully so, obcessed with it. A month later, I think, Warren died. If it's an upload on YT, everyone needs to watch it. Thanks for the upload ‼️ RIP Warren Zevon and Jerry Garcia 🌹🌹🌹✝️
Thank you for uploading. This music will live on through the eons. Jerry singing Warrens poetry.... So profound and beautiful, thank you again for uploading, and thank you to all the musicians in the world who have enough strength to express themselves and share it with the world.
Pablo Pérez it's an unconfirmed truth. Dylan would never say as much, but he did play a different Zevon song every night after he died. "Time Out of Mind" could have come from Shakespeare too, but I like to think Dylan's mid 90's musical comeback and the album title most likely came from this song.
This is excellent.Thank you for promoting it here......especially for doing so in the REAL hifi bitrate that it warrants. Anything less would be a travesty.Wish every uploader had the same respect.Cheers
Yeah! Me neither...I thought that Jerry and the Dead only covered Warren's "Werewolves of London". This is so great as I love them both (though I LOVE the Grateful Dead like no other band ever!)
@@doodahdavesrecords4319 yeah this was just Jerry goofing off in the studio one night. It’s a drum machine and Jerry playing the organ and singing so it wasn’t ever released until 2004 on a box set as a outtake so even among dead heads it’s not particularly well known that it exist, but it’s pretty great. You can hear the emotion and the pain and the sadness in Jerry’s voice a lot of the times that he covers other song. I’m not necessarily saying that it’s better than the original but it’s different and interesting in a way that many cover songs that tend to focus on being as close to the original as possible. Jerry had a lot of pain in his life. He watched his dad drowned as a child, and then his brother cut off his finger with an ax. It turns out Jerry was sticking his hand in and out as the ax was coming down and he wasn’t quite fast enough.
Once in a while they played Werewolves of London at a show. Was lucky to catch it a couple of times. There are a few videos on RUclips if you care to view.
@hvymettle and even less times.....Jer actually remembered all the words. So help me, I was at the Halloween show(8/31/85 Columbis SC) They opened with Space into werewolves of London You're going....."wow! Gotta find that show". No. No you don't. Space was disoriented, lasted about 3 minutes, never got going. After a performance like that, you would think Jer would bear down and at least the two verses right. Nope. So help me🤣🤣🤣 all he got was "Ohh, ohh hoo Werewolves of London" We were tripping. What part of thatbwas unusual, no clue. We.laughed soooo hard I think Jerry actually heard is. Cause the next show Richmond 11/01/85.....standsva an all time Dick's Picks. History from the tours 🌹🌹🌹
I'm sure this isn't a collaboration. Sounds like Jerry just did it fooling around in the studio. Crappy electronic drum track and amateur chords on a organ. Just a demo of him trying out the song.
Whoa nelly!! This is something else!! I thought that the Dead only covered, "Werewolves of London" - man this is something else! Where in the shit did you find this Jeff?
Only three and half months wow not even reached the limit of the last departure will the wind blow you back around again we're gypsy souls you and I we're vagabonds we come and go with the breeze....
Never let anyone hold that fucking pen that's writing your life. Warren locked his up so tight he died from cancer. Jerry got so fucking high he forgot where he put it. My ex still has that cap
He sang the lyrics just as they are written. Sometimes people phrase things in their own way. Jerry tended to pull ballads into a darker, sadder direction. To each his own.
One of my favorites! I miss this man so much!! But happy I was alive when he was!! The hurt gets worse and the heart gets harder!!
The harder they come
Well said sir! ✌️❤️
Getting chills listening to this. Both missed so much. Lucky enough to see Warren several times and meet him in person.
Saddest song ever recorded. Cried a million times to this song
Just means you're human
Luke Heidt- if you think this is sad just listen to Warren Zevon’s THE WIND
@Barry Papick Absolutely. "Please Stay" is excruciating. And masterful.

Great information 👍 👌 👏 😀
Not much of a story lol

Yes, Zevon could write Hunter-like lyrics.

the hurt gets worse and the heart gets harder...damn Warren :(
This is why the wise forgive. Setting the other and ourselves free. (Thank you Warren. Thank you Jerry. RIP.)
Peace.
Yes it does.
Great line from a fantastic song.
Always loved that lyric.💪👍
warren was extraordinary.
Too true
💓Love You Jerry 💓
💓Summer of 2022 💓
Thanks for Accidentally Like a Martyr. I had 2 copies & lost both. So grateful to be able to hear it again.
how in the hell is Zevon not in the rock and roll hall of fame?
That's a joke rock and roll hall of bullshit. No real musician or fan cares about those shills. He's a hall of famer where it really counts.
He's finally nominated - vote on the fan ballot :)
Ahooooooo
because the place is hot trash.
There’s no accounting for taste….lol plus Jerry didn’t even show up when the Grateful Dead made it in so that should tell u all u need to kno 😂
Wow, what a gem. Many thanks for posting this!
What a great blessing. Have always loved this Warren tune.
I think I only heard this song played once before tonight. Maybe about 30 years ago. Excellent!
Thank you for sharing this!
Miss this man so Fukin much it's just insane! My soul is lost since he passed!
Love WZ. Got to see him perform several times before he passed. Enjoy every sandwich.
Love pain embodied. My god Jerry.
For anyone curious that’s a drum machine and Jerry is playing the organ. It was never released. It was just him in the studio one night.
This made me happy and sad happy birthday Jerry wherever you are .♥♥♥
Wow! Talk about emotions following out from DEEP within....🔥💫💫💫🔥
So powerful! 💪💪💪❤
Nice props from Jerry to Warren...... lovely....

Jerry put so much soul and emotion into this version. Dylan also named an album after this song "Time Out of Mind".

@@alexnelson8 good point
@@alexnelson8it's also a banging ass steely Dan song lol
Time out of Mind is an old expression. It means so long ago that no one can remember what happened

Yes was happy to
Find this And Inthought Linda Ronstadt nailed Warren’s songs I saw the Dead do Werewolves in Illinois 77 or 78

Stunning. Incredible. Important. THANK YOU!
i've never even been tempted to subscribe to anybody before........
and i've been listeing to youtube all day every work day for ten years or more
Bella versione del brano di Warren Zevon, delicato e romantico, sognante e filosofico. :-)
Wow, what a beautyful thing
Thanks a ton for the upload, it’s fantastic
I wish Jerry took this live with a guitar and Melvin seals.
That's precisely why I recorded a version of it, as Jerry and Melvin would have done
Fantastic. Never heard Jerry Garcia do a Warren Zevon song. Sends chills down my spine.
Once in a while they played Werewolves of London at a show. Was lucky to catch it a couple of times. There are a few videos on RUclips if you care to view.
He played with him. Check out transverse city with Garcia

This version cements the song into a fuckin anthem!

Super cool to hear Jerry give this a run.😊👍

Perfect...
The days go by……
Wow Jerry on Piano!
Wow ❤️
Awesome...Jerry covering Warren...can it get any better?
Thanks!
The irony of the song title. Its like when someone becomes sorry only after they were caught
Happy 2024 Days Between
Rare find!
thanks
Llistening to this at 1.25 speed and loving it
try .25 speed
Playing fast is easy, playing slow is not. Slow had to hit the brakes to hang with JGB.

oldSCCAguy yah it was a Bonus track on a rerelease Jerry album.
did zevon give him this song? zevons version didnt come out until the next year
I'm not sure how this came about

Thanks Poppa Bear 🐻 💀 ⚡️
George " Kingfish " Stevens ?
Jerry Garcia was the biggest treasure. He did not do a great job singing this song though. Can't take anything away from him nonetheless.
Drew McClintock
One of Zevons best. This version doesn't do it justice.
yes it does. jerry hella gets it.
Horrible.
What a sad, insecure person you must be robert rubin
So fucking solid. That's all
Jerry butchered a good song. Must have been drunk as the lyrics were all out of whack.
He sang the lyrics just as they are written. Sometimes people phrase things in their own way. Jerry tended to pull ballads into a darker, sadder direction. To each his own.
Man, what a butcher job on this great song, the drums sound like a machine, everything sucks on this horrible demo.
