I never said mappa was bad, I just said that everything from season 1 to 3 has miles of better animation than season 4.

that's what is missing in MAPPA's work, welp can't blame em..
Freelancers are afraid to go in, in such small amount of time.
The camera work is part of the animation, they're not separate things. There is no actual camera, camera motion is faked by animating the perspective change.
This cut made by Yasuyuki Ebara at 1:18 is really underated,, it's one of the greatest cut of Season 1. Yet it's very underlooked .
@Aidan Patrick Hurley Yes, there is a lot of Deserved Praise for Arifumi Imai, but they should also be mindblown by this one as much as Imai's cut. Everything here have so many detail, eren and Mikasa movement are totally different and represent their character perfectly. And the animation of the cut is just mindblowing.

Lol no arifumi imai is originally from production ig and then transferred to witstudio after the success of aot s1 that’s when he became a freelancer hence you can see his cuts in one punch man genie vs saitama and other shows

If you're an AOT fan, you should be aware that this was animated by a freelance artist namely, Arifumi Imai. A freelancer means he has no affiliation towards any studio. He's also the person in charge of key animating all the ODM gear action scenes on season 1, Collosal Titan kicking the walls from season 1, Armored titan destroying Wall Maria from Season 1, all Female Titan scenes,Jaw Titan (Ymir) transformation, Eren vs Reiner on Season 2, Levi vs Kenny squad on ep2 of Season 3, Historia Slicing his father's nape on season 3, Levi vs Beast Titan, Eren slicing the nape of the Colossal Titan on S3P2, Ocean ending of season 3p2 and MANY MANY MORE. He also key animated the famous OP 1 & 2 of season 1 and OP 1 of season 2 . To summarize, he's the person behind all the notable scenes from the past season. If there's something we should have wish right now, I would not wish for Wit to come back but rather I would wish for Arifumi Imai to come back and collaborate to Mappa now. It's due to the fact that they had few months to animate which is why the animation isn't all that great. It's good but not great. So many people take this as an insult and it's just sad

1:17 super cool how mikasa and eren's odm movements are contrasted heavily. eren does basic motions but you can definitely tell he's giving it his all, while mikasa does flashy and complicated movements while being indifferent to it.
To be fair to Eren, the dude had just turned into a titan TWICE in the same day and the first transformation kept going until he exhausted himself.
It's really amazing that the animators put extra details like that in an already super amazingly animated scene.
u cant deny the fact that WIT's odm stuff was god tier. they brought it to life. one of the reasons for the success of aot is wit's hard work on the odm. such an amazing concept and so well executed
After watching this I died inside because this beautiful dream is over now and only the harsh reality remain in the form of Season 4. You may rest in peace in my memories Seasons 1-3 you were grate and thanks WIT studio you did an amazing work

I think ppl forget how bad the season 3 animation really was, outside of the freelanced sakuga moments. People need to seriously revisit it and examine it closer.

It's not. I know that they are trying to uplift Mappa and that's great but they should stop discrediting Wit.
It's not a bad thing to say that I like wit better than Mappa. Mappa is an awesome studio but it's quite unfortunate that they had only 8 months to animate s4. That's the reason why it's not great. The animation is awesome but not great.

@MERAJ Plays This is not about being immature and saying stupid things like "Wit shat their pants" Wit is a small studio, obviously they can't duplicate their previous work if they don't have enough time for it, mappa on the other hand is a big studio and they can afford to work on more than one project simultaneously, and of course they couldn't do anything at the wit level under that short amount of time so they mainly focused on character design. The attack titan from the last chapter is an example of that, a pretty good drawing but the only thing they animated was his hair, hopefully this time they have more time and we can see the animation that AOT deserves

i have said it so many times before, i will say it so many times again. Season 1-3 eng dub was an absolute masterpiece. I still wonder to this day how they made it so incredible. The dialogue, the dubbing, the animation, the scenery, the fights, the facial expressions, character design, ALL OF IT.
Wit studio will be the only ones to do it near perfectly, I'm forever grateful for that.
Mappa will just simply not ever be for me. Some say Mappa and Wit are the same? Yet the styles are night and day different. They worried too much about being dead-on manga accurate instead of taking a page from Wit's book. Aot just felt real in the first 3 seasons ONLY. Can't describe it better than that..

I have nothing but respect for the animators at MAPPA... but overall :
Studio MAPPA cares about profit. That's why they took over it. WIT gave it their all, despite knowing they wouldn't make shit off of the profits, since they're not on the production committee.
To Mappa, Attack on titan is a SECONDARY PROJECT, based on manga sales. However, they banked on the show's popularity to sell the final season.
Mappa is actually on the production committee, and committed to making it in a crunch because they knew they could make a shit ton of money off of it. If they were passionate or knew better, they could have denied the project once the pandemic hampered their schedule.
They just relied on the popularity of the first 3 seasons and the god tier story to sell us mediocre shit while making us feel guilty for criticising the quality, when production issues are clearly not our problem from a consumer standpoint.
Not to mention they straight up LIED to us with the trailer.
It's on mappa for accepting such a monumental project with no regard for how hard it is to make it when they should have known so.
Don't even believe for A SECOND when people say we wouldn't get season 4 without those guys. AoT is a juggernaut. That thing makes you money. You would eventually get clean, top tier animation if they didn't obsess over profits.
The fans deserve better.

@@jamesl9498 true. The art style is more detailed and I like how everything looks. Episodes with no action..like the episodes after they return to Paradise are really amazing. Only thing missing was these odm.gear action and CGI titans. And tbh the action and fights you saw in these CGI titans was more than you'd seen in hand drawn titans.

Mappa is actually three times more experienced and talented studio... They would have made aot three times better. But their dumbass didn't know what and what not to accept with that time schedule
@@indianflippingart9593 not really, all of Mappa animes including JJK are done by free lance animation teams and CG is created by studio V-sign. Mappa has the legendary Hiramitsu Tadashi as a the character designer but thats pretty much it. Animators at Mappa only polish and do in between frames which are leaked by an animator from AOT staff Mushiyo which she is now a freelancer.
@@indianflippingart9593 i dont thinks so, their style of animating is different than wit's, mappa are good when it comes to human choreography fights scene, like a martial art hand to hand combat, but when it comes to dynamic camera angle, wit is still top notch which is what made aot animation so good, you'll notice if you pay a little bit more atenttion,mappa is a little static on their camera angle when it comes to combat, they focus at drawing the characters more than moving the angle, thats why the characters movement are fluid asf, wit however did the opposite, the characters move on a lower frames but the camera are very dynamic which fits aot a lot

we even have tge designs from all the possible angles but with them not being able to work at the studio and everything being much slower they had to do something to have it on time aka cgi

@@agssilv5919 Yeah the pandemic made the situation even worse, I think if it weren't for that, MAPPA could have given us great animation without the need of 3D models.Considering they started to work on Part 2 in October and it will start airing in December 2021 they have had about a year, hoping to see some stellar animation from MAPPA, JJK and GOH is a testament of how good their animation is
For me s1 was my favorite in terms of odm gear scenes , every scene you can just feel the speed , pressure and momentum when they fly in the air along with almost every character even side characters have amazing odm gear scenes

3 years ago , I noticed the background of almost every odm gear scenes is in CGI and I found the mix 2d/3d very well done . If only wit had the same skill for cg titans and cg horses .
IMO, they do have good skills, but it takes a lot of time. Season 2 Colossal Titan vs Hange squad is still the best 3D CGI in the series to me.

@@madmouse4400 Not gonna lie, you're one of the first person I ever saw complimenting the Rod Reiss titan.
Pre-season 4, I think those are all the cgi Titans, excluding one little scene in season 2 with generic titans from very afar.
@@AgnusCavichioliPereira Rod reiss had to be huge and heavy and cgi made him look huge and heavy. So cgi made a good job . Same for colossal titan season 2 . But for the scene of mindless titans in season 2 , I laughed when I watched it 🤣🤣🤣.
And for colossal titan season 3 it was like him and the rest of the show was in 2 differents universes , I lost my immerse in the show.
It's actually not the animation I'm most amazed of, but the directory of it. Takes real talent
missed seeing these scenes and hearing this ost, so happy they brought it back in s4

They gave u the feeling of physics involved in their animations. Trust me no studio did it so well than wit! Love the first 3 Seasons! They took their time and did outstanding animations!
This also tells us that each and every member of the survey corps is a fucking badass. The all had fucking balls of steel. And they died dat way. Most of em. You feel so bad. They all are like super soldiers or atleast paratrooper or special forces level.

I think what makes the difference between MAPPA's to Wit's animation is the perspective. Wit really uses the perspective to its limit and it makes us feels like we are in in battle. I really miss Wit's AOT animations
1:00 it is very clear how the animators made Eren's maneuvering different from Mikasa's. Mikasa's better maneuvering allows her to transfer her previous momentum to her next shoot of wires while Eren seems to always be loosing momentum each shot so Eren needs to shoot more than Mikasa

In my opinion, Wit just had plain better animation in general.
Mappa is amazing at expressions and tone building, but you really cannot say they are in the same league of even facial animation of Wit.
Even outside of sakuga scenes, the animation in Wit is so smooth and expressive, to the point that it inspired the author of attack on titan themselves
Yeah but I don’t think wit was that good with cgi tho or like rlly large titans in general look at s2 colossal and rod riess titan mappa was decent with it but one thing for sure is that they handled the rumbling rlly well I don’t think wit could pull that off
Now just imagine the utopia of an alternate reality where Wit animated the entire AOT show from start to finish.

Ahhh, no, it's worse. Imagine they take a whole year to complete the final part and you could see a lot of bad designs, such as Levi's face in his last sence, Mappa sucks compared to wit, honestly, except they have a lot of simps yeah.
This type of stuff you just don’t get with MAPPA 😔
I feel like if WIT and MAPPA did a collab together instead, the animation for S4 would be phenomenal.
Combine WIT's 3DMG dynamic movements, with MAPPA's CGI, you'd have basically the best of both worlds.
Where MAPPA lacks (the like flowy movement of the seasons prior to S4), WIT could make up for. And where WIT lacks (the CGI for the other titans, namely the Colossal) MAPPA could make up for.
Both studios, in my opinion, are really good at what they do. Still a shame WIT passed on the torch but hey! They've worked on AOT for YEARS. It's time for them to shine in other projects outside AOT.
