I'm actually starting to find it quite annoying. The prevalence of video in the 16:9 ratio means a lot of data maps in these videos don't show New Zealand as a proper world map can't fit in NZ without letterboxing.
Required textbooks are a scam. A student has no choice but to buy the required books. There's been cases where publishers have bribed professors to require their very expensive books. They sell for way, way, more than the price of a normal book on the same subject, and often require the very latest edition, second-hand editions from a couple of years ago are apparently not suitable. Because, I dunno, archaeology changes that fast.
"No Man is-land" sounds quite funny. However, I'd go a step further and call it "No Land is-land" (or "Kein Land Eiland" in German) because I love puns and paradoxa. XD

3:00 Bradley land - the other non-existent land mass was made-up by Frederick Cook (3:35) who also, probably, never reached the North Pole. This was only one of the things he cooked up and later in life landed in prison. This episode needs a follow-up.
This guy only wanted to travel around and he knew that his whole "discoveries" didn't actually matter. He was like, well fuck it who cares if there's an island somewhere, where nobody is going to be! Guess i just found out how I'm going to finance my next trip! 🤔
I have a school geography textbook from about 1900. It has some weird ideas about land in the Arctic (it shows Baffin Island as several islands, for example), but that was due to imperfect mapping, not scams.
You forgot to mention that the Crocker Land Expedition featured the murder of their Inuit guide over which direction to go next (they later told the other Inuits that he had died in an avalanche).
Wow. The Crocker family was full of super succesful people. I live near the Crocker art museum, and that was founded by Edwin B Crocker, the uncle of the George Crocker mentioned in the video. The whole family is full of Railroad tycoons, California supreme court judges, bankers, and more railroad tycoons.
I recently read about all this, you failed to mention Bradley Land as well, made up by Cook. I've got a book that I'd recommend everybody called "The Phantom Atlas", it is all about fake islands and sea monsters etc. that have accidentally madr it on maps.
Interesting, but quite different than what I had read about this infamous mirage. An article I have on the topic has quite a different take on it; that it was actually named Crocker Land 100 years earlier than Peary by Commander John Ross of the Royal Navy who had reported seeing a 1000 foot mountain in the area Peary saw his. Ross was never taken seriously by the scientific community. Search parties never found the land and concluded that it must have been a mirage Ross had seen. In 1913, about seven years after Peary, Macmillan went in search of the mountains and he too saw them in the same spot but that they shifted and changed as he approached them until they finally disappeared as he reached the spot from measurements that he knew they must be if they were real. He returned to his starting point and again saw the same mountains and concluded that Crocker Land was a huge mirage.
