Make sure the filter is in the heater box or you will get more leaves in there. A lot of people take the filter out and don't put one back and then they come to me and I have to do what you just did.

Good call! Yep, in Canada many take it out for winter as sometimes they get wet from snow and smell. They then forget to replace them in spring!
