As someone that has ALS …I would like to say thank you for everything that you have done for our community. I have been confined to my power chair for over a year. My speech is so slurred that no one can understand me. I just hope that this technology is accessible to us. ALS is an expensive disease as it is. I will keep commenting under this comment every month to let you all know that I’m still alive and waiting for a cure.
The trial is currently enrolling participants. To learn more about the study, visit braingate.org or contact braingate@ucdavis.edu. We wish you the best and hope you are doing well.
Wow. Absolutely incredible. Watching this makes me appreciate my life more than ever. God bless him and the most amazing people that made this happen. Truly a science fiction moment, becoming a reality.
That's a wonderful technique. I am Japanese and have ALS. Will these devices be available in Japanese as well? I can barely move my eyes. Do these devices require eye movements? My hope in life is to hope for technology that is advancing day by day. I used Google Translate. thank you.
I hope and I believe, they CAN. They have the Technology. They need just a special "interface" for other languages. All the people have almost the same "brain construction"!
How do I sign up for this? I have limited to no speech recognition with my ALS. I have had ALS for three years but my speech is the only thing that ALS has taken away from me. I am very healthy otherwise.
EXELLENT WORK! WE ALL HOPE THAT SIENCE WILL TRY TO GIVE SOLUTIOS TO PEOPLE WHO SUFFERING! (IF THERE WERE A WISE ... GOD, THERE SHOULD BE NO SUCH PROBLEMS!!! )
For every good use case you find, others will find at least two new ways to abuse. That's true for all new technology, but AI moves really fast, and we as a society will have trouble keeping up to fight all new crimes. Nonetheless, an astonishing and marvelous achievement.
Truly amazing and heart warming. But I'm also curious about the smartphone app that gets 95% accuracy? Is that non invasive unlike the brain interface?

It just worked the first time he used it? They didn't have to calibrate it AT ALL? I hope that was a misspeak but holy wow if not. Also scary. I was imaging this needing a lot of training by the patient.
Crqzy technology. But that qlso neans it only works for people who learned to speak? The system cant recognize ibternal toughts only the muscle movement which the brain sends to the muscle.
I agree with him in hoping that everyone will have this opportunity to communicate with this amazing technology. I guess what concerned me is that the device in his head said BlackRock on it which makes me question accessibility.

There are companies working on interpretation interfaces where they will just sit you in a room with a hat on and they will see and hear your thoughts. Wish I was making this up.

This clinical trial is currently enrolling participants. Might be worth checking if you could get involved

This is an incredible success. Congrats to everyone making this happen. This is a milestone!!!
Truly incredible technology! So proud to be an Alum in Cognitive Science from this University.

The technology and the guys behind it are incredible. That is what technology is meant for. Helping, not killing.
Amazing what science can do for us… Thank you!
blown away by this! future is bright

It would be incredible for UC Davis to include VA Healthcare patient's in their trials!
👏👏👏Amazing!
we should more money invest in this technology as war 😑

Incredible 🤯
He should be a motivational speaker 👏
Absolut unglaublich! Super!!!
Great job.

Wow das ist fantastisch
Fantastic!
Damn, that is impressive. One of the upsides of AI technology. Keep at it lads. Greetings from Germany ✌️

He's talking about the kinds of apps that transcribe speech (not brain waves) like for sending a text when you're driving.
Вау, спасибо что я могу узнать об этом из видео в интернете. Ваша работа великолепна!

Looks like real science, not this Neuralink BS from Musk.
I'm still laughing while I'm dictating this
Pause
"We're not trying to read people's minds" s*** eating grin wink wink nudge nudge say no more😂😂😂
No, no! We're not doing that! That's the opposite of what we're doing! (Very very poorly stifled laughter slapping knee)

I do not create technology that will read people's minds. That is my LEAST favorite thing to do!
What an insufferable person you are

That is wonderful. Thank you for everyone working on this. I hope lots of people will help this 🥹
