  • The “Americans With Disabilities Act” poses a multitude of practical, legal and financial challenges to educators in every school in America, especially in the wake of COVID-19 restrictions and the “new normal” that is remote-learning.
Every school in the United States must be prepared to provide solutions to students requesting any of a wide range of accommodations, sometimes on short notice and without proper support from outside their school (or school district). These pre-existing complications have been compounded by the on-going pandemic restrictions forced upon schools and students alike.
This consultation will highlight legal liabilities resulting from the ADA law in education, with a focus on Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing and visually impaired communities during distance learning, and present how to navigate resolving them in practice.
Our panelists will present two case studies and work through practical solutions with participants.
What You Will Learn: this consultation will:
    • provide an overview of ADA law with emphasis on the Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing and visually impaired
    • explain how it applies to educators, especially in the context of distance learning
    • present legal precedent case studies relevant to educators
    • highlight some more prominent liabilities resulting from them
    • outline some practical solutions for pre-emptively remedying common liabilities
    • explain how they work in practice
