Fascinating discussion. I love hearing all the sport-specific training philosophy. It’s amazing how many different ways there are to train our bodies. It’d be cool to see you meet up with other coaches in other random sports and see what types of movements they would throw at you.
Again, all the nuance and emphasis on practicality is a refreshing departure from the often dogmatic world of science-based lifting. The story about motivating athletes by making training competitive was great.

Definitely looking forward to some variety - coming up in the next month I have an elite Hyrox athlete, an 80 year old runner, and a super fit physical therapist.

Cool stuff Alec! Suggestion for the time stamps, if you have a timestamp starting at 0:00 (called "intro" or whatever), it will allow the viewer to actually see the different chapters/timestamps on the screen of the video. This makes it easier to see which chapter/section is being discussed. You can try it and see the difference. Anyways, thanks for all the content. Keep it up!!

Thanks for this! I was wondering why they weren’t showing up the video. Just fixed it - hope that does the trick.

What’s your motivation for doing that marathon stuff?
Guessing you got into that before more general fitness work and can’t let go?

Long distance running is something special. Some things I really enjoy about it:
      1) I've been able to run some of the coolest "multi-day" trails in the world in an afternoon (my favorite was a 36 mile run around Mauna Kea) - it's allowed me to see & experience so much and is truly a unique way to connect to the world/nature around you.
      2) The discipline and focus involved in daily aerobic training elicits a feeling of calm & ease that strength training can't match. Strength training is great and offers things that running doesn't, but the clarity one gets from endurance training is unique. At the extreme, running ultras has a lot in common with a shroom trip. Life/stress/etc "slows down" after really big efforts for a while and you feel a lot more grounded/connected.
      3) It's just good for my health!
